Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007,  R)
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
"No, not Barker. That man is dead. It's Todd now. Sweeney Todd... and he will have his revenge."

Director: Tim Burton
Starring: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall
Running time: 116 minutes
Country: USA, UK

Sweeney Todd was definitely the most anticipating film of 2007 for me because I was looking forward to it so much and I knew it was going to be a very close favourite of mine even before I watched it. It is a very dark musical that in my opinion didn't disappoint at all. It was a bit of a risk because it is a dark film with a lot of blood and brutal killings and it is part of the light hearted genre: musicals. There have been very dark musicals in the past that haven't even been compared to Sweeney Todd; not even 2002 Oscar Best Picture winner Chicago. Before I saw Sweeney Todd I wasn't a massive Tim Burton film because I hadn't really been into his films until I saw Sweeney Todd. This film not only inspired me to watch more film from Tim Burton but also to watch dark films with dark stories and visual designs in which Sweeney Todd has. It is a kick-ass film in my opinion because it is just a deeply interesting story that follows through Sweeney's dark and brutal path of revenge. It is also the characters within the film that made it really special. This film is very dark and really tense but despite that it is quite a very thought provoking and emotional story as well. Sweeney Todd is a film that I have watched over and over again (about 100 times) and have loved it every single time I've watched it. It wasn't only how it was filmed that I really loved about it, it was also the songs and how they flowed with the film. I have always done and still do sing to the songs of Sweeney Todd even though I do consider myself to be a pretty bad singer. My favourite songs from the film are "A Little Priest", "Epiphany", "My Friends", "No Place Like London" and "Pretty Women". I bought the soundtrack for the film and I even bought the book about how the film was made and the possible history of Sweeney Todd himself. There is a twist in this film. Some people don't really think it's a twist, that its more like a revelation but it affects the story so, yes, it is a twist. It left me in great shock for hours and I couldn't believe it because it was so unexpected.

Johnny Depp's performance as Sweeney Todd/Benjamin Barker is a performance that only he can portray because he portrays the character in a very sinster, menacing, deadly and yet rather emotional way. The way Johnny expresses the audience's attention for the films he's in are always the same. For example "Wow! What a great film! He was bloody gorgeous!" I find that to be obviously understandable but rather silly in some places. Sweeney Todd's character was really interesting and very hard to watch on occasions because he always has something up his sleeve but sometimes suffers in silence while doing so especially when he's around Mrs. Lovett. Johnny's performance as Sweeney Todd is a slight taste of the types of characters in his other films in the past. For example, cool and entertaining: Captain Jack Sparrow and Ed Wood, emotional: Edward Scissorhands and Finding Neverland, villainous: Secret Window and Public Enemies. We see Johnny's darkest side towards his acting talent which is I think that everybody can appreciate because who doesn't love Johnny Depp? Johnny's singing in the songs was absolutely incredible! To be honest, I was actually surprised about how good he was. Now onto the character, before he became Sweeney Todd, a London barber called Benjamin Barker is married to his wife Lucy with whom he has a baby daughter Johanna. While out in the markets they are spotted by the evil Judge Turpin and because Barker's wife is blonde and beautiful, he gets Barker arrested and sent into exile across the other side of the world. After his 15 years in prison, he mysteriously comes back to London and becomes a whole new person again with the name of Sweeney Todd instead of Benjamin Barker. He doesn't say how he ends up back in London but he does. He goes back to Mrs. Lovett's Pie Shop with whom he was a neighbour of hers once with his wife and daughter. He learns the truth of what happened to his wife and daughter when he was away so he and Mrs. Lovett take their journey through Sweeney's path of revenge by him killing his victims and Mrs. Lovett stuffing their meat into the pies in her shop. Helena Bonham Carter's performance as Mrs. Lovett is a very unique and really cool performance. Both her and Depp are the only two actors who could have pulled off Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett and it is that simple. Helena looked too cool in this film. She made Mrs. Lovett like a gothic sort of character with the make-up, costumes, hair and even her voice as does Johnny as Sweeney Todd. Mrs. Lovett is a very mysterious woman because I think that she says she has love feelings for Todd even though he doesn't have any for her. Helena Bonham Carter has always be an actress portraying really unusual and odd characters but Mrs. Lovett is the oddest character she has played so far. Alan Rickman's performance as Judge Turpin was another incredible performance because he is typical Alan Rickman because Turpin is a really slimy, scheming character just like Snape but is a bit of a criminal and paedophile. Alan's performance should have earned him an Oscar nomination. Timothy Spall was really good alongside Alan Rickman in Sweeney Todd because those two are probably the only actors who can play really slimy, scheming and sinister characters in the films. Sacha Baron Cohen is really quite funny in this film but he is rather serious as well because he fakes his identity. His name isn't really Adolfo Pirelli and he isn't Italian either. Sacha's singing of "The Contest" was beyond me because Sacha is a British man and he has a great Italian accent. Him singing that song sort of brought Borat back again.

Tim Burton's work on Sweeney Todd is a massive inspiration to me because he has created a dark story that I don't think he or anyone has made before. The one Tim Burton film that Sweeney Todd is slightly similar to is Sleepy Hollow because of the blood, dark settings, costumes and because they're both thrillers but Sweeney Todd is a musical and Sleepy Hollow is a fantasy. I always watched the exclusive interviews that Tim had about Sweeney Todd (the same with Johnny and Helena). By seeing Burton's artistic drawings of Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett, I thought and Burton said himself that "that is them. Johnny and Helena fit that couple for certain because they are so odd and unique." I was so fascinated by this film and Tim Burton's work towards it I couldn't stop watching how they made the film and the trailers and video clips. The script is adapted from the previous musical so it is the same as the musical play but that doesn't bother me in the slightest. Tim Burton has created his most creative film, his darkest film and his coolest film yet. Sweeney Todd is a film that we would be expecting Tim to do because its really dark just like Sleepy Hollow.

Sweeney Todd won 1 Oscar out of 3 nominations. It won Best Art Direction but was nominated for Best Leading Actor (Johnny Depp) but lost to Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood and Best Costume Design but lost to Elizabeth: The Golden Age. It won 2 out 4 Golden Globes. It won Best Picture Musical/Comedy and Best Actor Musical/Comedy (Johnny Depp). It was nominated for Best Actress Musical/Comedy (Helena Bonham Carter) but lost to Marion Cotillard in La Vie En Rose and Best Director (Tim Burton) but lost to Julian Schnabel in The Diving Bell And The Butterfly.

Sweeney Todd is one of the best films of all time in my opinion. Sweeney Todd is my favourite musical and probably always will be. It is both Johnny Depp's and Helena Bonham Carter's best film. Sweeney Todd has a confirmed and firmly sealed place at the best Tim Burton film. 2007 was a great year for cinema. It is probably the best year in cinema of the decade and I am proud to say that this is the best film of 2007 and I knew it even before I saw the film. It is an absolutely perfect film that I love in every single way. Masterpiece!!

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007,  PG-13)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
"You're a fool, Harry Potter, and you will lose everything."

Director: David Yates
Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Michael Gambon
Running time: 138 minutes
Country: UK, USA

This film really thrilled me because of the action sequences and it left me clueless of what was going to happen (unless you have read the novels). This is the one Harry Potter film that starts to become a new Harry Potter who is a growing up teenager and starts to realise who he is and what his job is with Voldemort and about wanting to fight off Voldemort and stop him. This makes this film the most action packed aswell which made is more adult too. This film makes me feel good because this is the Harry Potter out of the seven films that totally changes everything and makes the Harry Potter character along with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger more adult and typical teenage people. I thought the acting was superb.

Daniel Radcliffes was superb because Daniel was more emotional and acted really desperate and extremely stressed out because he wanted everyone to believe him that Lord Voldemort has returned and it affects his relationship between Harry and Dumbledore even though Dumbledore is one of the very few people who believes him. Daniel really improves his performance as Harry. He was really bad in the first two films, he was good in 3 and 4 but amazing in this. I think his performance in this film is one of the best performances from a young actor of all time. Ron Weasley and Emma Watson are awesome once again as they are in all 5 films so far. Imelda Stauntons performance is amazing as Dolores Umbridge. Imelda makes a very dark and psychotic character in the Harry Potter franchise that nobody has ever seen before. Imelda speaks very softly for such a very psychotic character which is really quite scary. Despite of Daniels brilliant performance, I have to say that Imelda Stauntons performance is the best from the film and is the best performance from the whole franchise. I love Alan Rickman as Snape and Emma Watson as Hermione aswell. I thought that Imelda Staunton was so good, I think that she deserved a possible Golden Globe or even an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Dolores Umbridge. This film has another different director from the four previous films and for good reason too.

David Yates directs this film ever so well that makes this film a really touching emotional family fantasy film compared to the other four. Not just the script makes it emotional but also the acting and the scenes within the film too. The camera angles are really clever especially when they zoom around the news of the Daily Prophet in when there are news about Harry, Dumbledore, Umbridge, Voldemort or anyone else.

This film brings a brand new level of the rest of the Harry Potter films because of the dark designs, the dark characters and dark script aswell. This film is definitely the best Harry Potter film so far and might always be my favourite Harry Potter. It is quite weird because Order Of The Phoenix is the longest novel of all seven but the shortest film of the five films. It is one of my favourite fantasy films of all time.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005,  PG-13)
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
"Harry! I'd almost forgotten you were here, standing on the bones of my father. I'd introduce you, but rumor has it you're almost as famous as me these days."

Director: Mike Newell
Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Michael Gambon
Running time: 157 minutes
Country: UK, USA

I knew that I was going to love this one because it seemed a really fun film to watch and we get into the more personal side of things within the franchise. Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire is probably the only Harry Potter film with an unexpected twist. Actually, it has two twists. This one is darker than the first, second and third one but is better than all three of them because the story, the characters and the way it is filmed is much better. Goblet Of Fire is my favourite Harry Potter novel but not my favourite Harry Potter film. Goblet Of Fire leads to seeing darker sides of magic as well as Order Of The Phoenix because we learn about what happens with the killing, torture and control spells do. This one is the most imaginitive ones out of all 5 of the ones that have been released thus far especially with the three tasks of the Triwizard Tournament. I loved seeing this one at the cinema because it became a new experience of Harry Potter because it was the first one of the franchise to have a certificate of 12A/PG-13 at the cinema and I am sure now that the rest of the franchise will be 12A.

As I am seeing Dan, Rupert and Emma as the three main characters I think that I am starting to see what sort of people they are in real life now just as themselves. It is like I grew up with them and watched them grow as well as myself. Despite how good the cast of Harry Potter is, the cast expands a lot more now with stars like two-time Oscar nominee Ralph Fiennes, Brandon Gleeson, David Tennant, Robert Pattinson and Miranda Richardon. Daniel Radcliffe's performance as Harry Potter was in some people's opinion really bad but I thought it wasn't bad and it wasn't good either. I could see where Dan went a bit over the top and overreacts at times in which he does in some scenes but he made us see a much braver side to Harry especially when he entered the Triwizard Tournament. Dan's performance as Harry is lame in Philosopher's Stone, alright in Chamber Of Secrets, a lot better in Prisoner Of Azkaban, good in Goblet Of Fire and amazing in Order Of The Phoenix. Harry goes through a lot in this film and a lot of hard events come in front of him. Harry is unwillingly entered into the Triwizard Tournament and is 3 years underage to compete. Harry has no idea who entered him in so he has no choice but to actually compete in those three tasks with support from only Professor Alastor Moody. Harry has fall outs with his close friends Ron and Hermione in this one because they are annoyed at him for entering and especially for not telling them that he entered even though he didn't enter himself into it. He becomes the most hated person in school but he always tries to put on a brave face and to carry on with it. Rupert Grint is really good as Ron once again. He is hilarious and an idiot which is obviously part of Ron's personality. He falls out with Harry but they eventually make up after Harry completes the first task. We start to see the romantic side of things with the kids of Hogwarts because of the Yule Ball which does lead Ron to slight feelings for Hermoine and Harry for Ravenclaw seeker Cho Chang. Emma Watson proves once again that she is the best out of the three actors. She is the only one who can portray their character with real enthusiasm and the most realistically interesting. Hermione falls out with Harry as well as Harry's other friends do but when the Yule Ball comes along she goes with Harry's co-champion in the Triwizard Tournament, Durmstrang champion Victor Krum which makes Ron jealous as it makes Harry jealous of watching Cho dance with co-Hogwarts champion and friend Cedric Diggory. Michael Gambon is a good Dumbledore but isn't a brilliant one. He will never be better than the late Richard Harris. Dumbledore should have gone to either Ian McKellen or Christopher Lee instead because they are both far more talented. Ralph Fiennes was really good and scary as Voldemort (not going to say because spoiler). He portrayed this man with such fear. He wore such amazing make-up and the costumes he wore were like rags but made the character even more fearful than he already was.

Mike Newell's directing in The Goblet Of Fire was really good which sort of surprised me because the directing in the first three was pretty good. As far as I'm concerned, Newell would have been a good choice for directing Prisoner Of Azkaban then there would have been a joint directing: Chris Colombus for Philosopher's Stone and Chamber Of Secrets, Mike Newell for Prisoner Of Azkaban and Goblet Of Fire and David Yates for Order Of The Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince and both parts of the final one Deathly Hallows. The script was a tiny flawed but the main thing was that some of the flawed scenes such as when Harry went in the bath where he saw Moaning Myrtle again. I thought that was a bit of an inappropriate scene even though it did become effective with the egg revealing what the second task is.

The Goblet Of Fire is my favourite Harry Potter novel but my favourite Harry Potter film is Order Of The Phoenix. The Goblet Of Fire is the start of making the Harry Potter films more enjoyable for adults as well as kids because they are getting darker and darker every time one is released. The Goblet Of Fire is one of my favourite blockbusters of 2005 and is one of the best of 2005 in my honest opinion. The Goblet Of Fire is the one Harry Potter film that catches your imagination the most and you will see why when you watch or if you have already watched it.

Love Actually (2003,  R)
Love Actually
"All I want for Christmas is you."

Director: Richard Curtis
Starring: Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson
Running time: 129 minutes
Country: UK, USA

I had high expectations for Love Actually because of it having a large ensemble cast that has a lot of talented British actors and actresses. When I saw Love Actually, I absolutely loved it!! I thought this film was absolutely hilarious with such brilliant jokes and funny moments within the film. It is a film that has many different stories that combine together perfectly to bring a beautiful, heartwarming and almost tearjerking conclusion. There are a lot of romantic comedies that I have seen in the past that have either really annoyed me due to its soppy romance that are packed with sex scenes and graphic nudity that hardly have any drama in it at all but this one amongst a few others aren't like that. I love romantic comedies that obviously have romance and comedy in it but drama too just like this one has. This isn't just watching a romantic comedy, it's like in a dream where you would see different people's lives effected and what the beauty of them are and seeing a beautiful ending like you're in some sort of fantasy world. It was like watching a soap opera on TV as well because of the storylines in the film.

Every single actor did an absolutely fantastic job in this film with moving and funny performances but I have to say that I think the funniest performance was Hugh Grant as the British Prime Minister and the most emotional was Liam Neeson as Daniel. There are 10 storylines within Love Actually. They are: Billy Mack and Joe (Bill Nighy and Gregor Fisher), Juliet, Peter and Mark (Keira Knightley, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Andrew Lincoln), Jamie and Aurélia (Colin Firth and Lúcia Moniz), Harry, Karen and Mia (Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson and Heike Makatsch), David and Natalie (Hugh Grant and Martine McCutcheon), Daniel, Sam and Joanna (Liam Neeson, Thomas Sangster and Olivia Olsen), Sarah and Karl (Laura Linney and Rodrigo Santoro), Colin, Tony and the Wisconsin girls (Kris Marshall, Adbul Salis, Ivana Milicevic, January Jones, Elisha Cuthbert, Shannon Elizabeth and Denise Richards), John and Judy (Martin Freeman and Joanna Page) and Rufus (Rowan Atkinson). My favourite storyline is David and Natalie because it is very powerful, emotional and funny that becomes very peaceful. What I love the most about this film is that all of these actors join together to send a very important message: Christmas is spent and is about being with loved ones as well as the birth of Jesus Christ.

The directing was absolutely perfect!! I could very easily notice the determination and hard work that was put into this film not only with the acting and writing but also of what the backgrounds sceneries were like. Richard Curtis is a good director who shouldn't be underestimated. He has produced, written and directed other romantic comedies like Four Weddings And A Funeral, Notting Hill and Bridget Jones's Diary. The writing was absolutely fantastic! This film was written in a perfect way due to the genres that it is part of.

Love Actually is one of the most beautiful films that I have ever watched in my life! It is filled with pure pleasure that brings delight to your heart. I have seen quite a lot of romantic-comedies but I have to say that Love Actually is the best romantic comedy ever made; simple as. It is my third favourite Christmas film ever after Its A Wonderful Life and Home Alone. Also, it is one of the greatest films of 2003 and has one of the greatest ensemble casts of all time too.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002,  PG)
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
" "Follow the spiders." Why couldn't it be "follow the butterflies"? "

Director: Chris Colombus
Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Richard Harris
Running time: 161 minutes
Country: UK, USA

I absolutely loved this one! This one was really interesting with a plot that kept me going all the way through despite its 162 minute duration. I absolutely love the novel and I love the film as well. This is the last of the entertaining nothing more Harry Potter films. It ended in such a huge way. I realised after seeing his at the cinema when I was 11 that as more films from the series come out it will get more serious every time. This is a really tense one but I think it is the best one for a family because it is seeing the comedy, the magic and even the intense and exciting action scenes within it.

Daniel Radcliffe's performance as Harry Potter improved more this time after he made a bad impression of Harry Potter in the Philosopher's Stone. Dan showed the curiosity of what's happening but lacking in emotion acting. Dan Radcliffe doesn't completely state that he is destined to be Harry Potter in this one but he does in three, four and five. Rupert Grint is an idiot but an idiot who is funny, caring and friendly which is precisely part of Ron's personality. Emma Watson proves again that she is the best actor of the three. She is like that in all of the films. She is the only actor of the three who doesn't go over the top and just plays it cool and stays calm throughout the film which is something that I didn't really expect because of the pressure of playing characters from such popular books. Overall, all three of them did a good job but they keep getting better the more film come out because they're used to playing the characters.

Chris Colombus is almost like a genius at creating family films. He proved that once again in this one just like in the first film. He also did Mrs. Doubtfire and the two Home Alone films which makes his fantastic reputation at creating films for the family an even bigger achievement. The way this film was written was like it dragged on a bit because the book is a really short one. The fifth Harry Potter film is the shortest so far but is the longest and biggest book out of all seven.

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets is a really good Harry Potter film that I really enjoyed. Of the five films there have been so far, Chamber Of Secrets is better than Prisoner Of Azkaban and Philosopher's Stone but not as good as Goblet Of Fire and especially Order Of The Phoenix. This one adds better taste to the blockbusters in 2002 because that was a great year for films that are part of a franchise. It isn't my favourite 2002 blockbuster but it is one of the best that year.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004,  PG)
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
"He was their friend, and he betrayed them. He was their *friend*! I hope he finds me! Cause when he does, I'm gonna be ready. When he does, I'm gonna kill him!"

Director: Alfonso Caurón
Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Michael Gambon
Running time: 141 minutes
Country: UK, USA

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban is a film that was mixed in the middle with what the franchise is about. What I mean by that is it has the taste of just entertainment which is what the first two Harry Potters are but it starts to have a lot of seriousness to it which is what the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh films are meant to be like. Prisoner Of Azkaban is a very dark story that introduces it all in the Harry Potter franchise especially with the dark magic and dark characters within. The way Prisoner Of Azkaban is filmed particularly the art production design was a lot like how Tim Burton would direct one of his films. It's a bit like Sweeney Todd/Sleepy Hollow/Batman scenery. Reminds me a lot of Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events settings too. I think most people say that either this one or Order Of The Phoenix are the best ones because they are the smartest Harry Potter films and are the darkest ones too.

Dan Radcliffe has improved a lot more as Harry Potter. He was pretty crap in the first film and was slightly better in the second one but he was really good as Harry in this one. The fourth one was a bit of a disappointing performance but the fifth Harry Potter was an outstanding performance from Dan. It's funny because this is the film now that we'll see him not only as Harry Potter but as Daniel Radcliffe. It's the same thing with Rupert and Emma but neither of them two was disappointing in any of the Harry Potter films. Michael Gambon was a good Albus Dumbledore but I do still think that the late Richard Harris was a better one. They could have picked a more talented actor for Dumbledore replacement or one that looks like Richard Harris. Gary Oldman was good as Sirius Black. There is something about him that does become a bit obvious when you watch Order Of The Phoenix. This one brought together other new characters with a wider and larger ensemble cast including Oscar winning actress Emma Thompson, Timothy Spall, Pam Ferris, Dawn French and Julie Christie. That's what I really do love about the Harry Potter series: there are more characters in every film therefore there is a bigger cast with better actors and will improve the popularity and reputation of the series.

Alfonso Caurón is a very good director and he directed this one really well. This is the one Harry Potter film that would look like a good Tim Burton film but I don't think Tim would have brought that magic within this film like all the others are. The art production of this film was a bit like in Children Of Men because of same filmmaker but the two films are totally different. The script was well written but I did think that it was a tiny bit too long especially with the going back in time scenes. The small dialogue slightly overlaped the running time of the film.

The Prisoner Of Azkaban is the start of a new dark era for Harry Potter. Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban is a very enjoyable Harry Potter film that I absolutely loved first time and still love now. I prefer Order Of The Phoenix, Goblet Of Fire and Chamber Of Secrets over this one but I like this one more than Philosopher's Stone. I think I'll probably like Half-Blood Prince more than this one too. Overall, Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban is a brilliant Harry Potter film that I loved as a young kid and still love now.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
"You have to realize who you are Harry."

Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Michael Gambon
Running time: 153 minutes
Country: UK, USA

I was really excited about seeing this one because I am a massive Harry Potter fan. I knew what the flaws could be of the film and after watching it, I could see that there was quite a few even though it was still a very enjoyable film to watch. I will say what the flaws were of the film: it was too funny. All Harry Potter films have some comedy in it. It had comedy that you didn't want to laugh at but couldn't help to. I found it way too long. I got bored within the first 10 minutes of the film but after then, I got into it. Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince is a fun film that is filled with more extraordinary magic within it that we hadn't seen before.

Daniel Radcliffe proved once again that he IS Harry Potter. Dan acts almost the same as he did Order Of The Phoenix. Dan is more of a hero in this film than Order Of The Phoenix. Harry gets into another hard situation at Hogwarts because Draco Malfoy has been given orders by Lord Voldemort for a mission. Harry's love interest isn't Cho this time, it's Ginny Weasley. Rupert Grint was good as Ron again but Ron is an absolutely idiot because of how funny Ron can be, they overloaded it in this one. Emma Watson is the best of the three and she totally deserves to be but she sort of annoyed me in this one because of her feelings for Ron and I didn't even see Emma cry once. Ron has a girl who becomes obsessed with him. They become boyfriend and girlfriend but Hermione starts to become jealous. Michael Gambon was awesome as Albus Dumbledore in this film! I still prefered the late Richard Harris as Dumbledore. Dumbledore gets himself into greater danger by getting more involved with Harry and Voldemort. I was quite disappointed that Voldemort himself (Ralph Fiennes as him) wasn't in this film at all. Alan Rickman was awesome once again as Severus Snape. Snape was in this film more than he was in any of the other Harry Potter films. Jim Broadbent was brilliant as Professor Horace Slughorn who has a dark past regarding Voldemort. He is a close friend of Albus Dumbledore and was a close friend of Harry Potter's mother Lily Potter. Horace Slughorn is funny because he is a bit of a wacky character. He takes over Snape as teacher of Potions while Snape becomes teacher of Defense Against The Dark Arts.

David Yates is a really good director but I have to say that I sort of felt that he slightly lost the plot with Half-Blood Prince because it took a long time to get into the story and also because it was overloaded with comedy. I hope that Yates doesn't make that same mistake with Deathly Hallows: Part I and Part II. The script was good but was very daft in some scenes especially with the romantic-comedy humour within it. Despite that, David Yates has created another intense, magical, adventurous film that introduces another cinematic experience.

Overall, Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince is a very enjoyable film to watch but has its flaws. It is another brilliant Harry Potter film. It is better than Philosopher's Stone but not as good as Order Of The Phoenix, Goblet Of Fire, Chamber Of Secrets or Prisoner Of Azkaban. It is probably the most popular summer 2009 blockbuster but to be honest, I don't think it is the best. There are some things about Half-Blood Prince that were awesome but there were some things within it that could have been improved. So, let's hope we will see an amazing final chapter within Deathly Hallows in November 2010 and May 2011.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone) (2001,  PG)

"You're the boy who lived."

Director: Chris Colombus
Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Robbie Coltrane
Running time: 152 minutes
Country: USA, UK

I was so excited about seeing this film when I was only 10-years-old. I used to read all of the Harry Potter novels. I find the Harry Potter series quite scary for children. Then again, it is a series based on magic that expands childrens imagination as it did mine. The first two Harry Potter films are just pieces of entertainment nothing majorly serious like the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th films and novels. Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone is a film that I absolutely adored as a kid but now I can see the flaws it has and I don't like it as much even though I still like it. It was mostly because of the poor acting of Dan Radcliffe. Also, the plot wasn't as interesting or realistic like the other Harry Potter films are.

Daniel Radcliffe's first performance as Harry Potter was really poor. Yes, he was a child playing a solid serious character but you should at least be prepared for playing a character like Harry Potter. The best thing is that as we see Dan grow up and play Harry more and more he gets better and better. He was slightly better in second one, very good in third film, average in fourth film and absolutely amazing in fifth film. Dan was only 12-years-old when the film was released. Rupert Grint was good as Ron Weasley. He makes me laugh as Ron. Rupert was 14-years-old at the time. Emma Watson was awesome as Hermione Granger. She proves in this one as well as all of the films that she is the best of the three of the young actors. Emma is the youngest of the three too. She was only 11-years-old in this one. Robbie Coltrane's performance was really good as Rubeus Hagrid. He should have been a possible contender for a Golden Globe or Oscar nomination.

Chris Colombus is a really good director for family films. He previously did Home Alone 1 and 2 and Mrs. Doubtfire. His directing was good that was filmed for adults and for kids like all of the Harry Potter films are. The script was really awesome! What I love about how Harry Potter is filmed is that it is aimed at everybody and wants to be loved from everyone.

Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone was one of my favourite childhood films. It is the worst Harry Potter film so far but is still a good film to watch. The first Harry Potter film is the dawning of a legendary franchise that will always be remembered.
