Bad Lieutenant (1992,  R)
Bad Lieutenant
The best religious film ever made. After seeing this I always feel a bit more spiritual. Watch along with The Ninth Configuration.
2
Pulp Fiction (1994,  R)
Pulp Fiction
A masterpiece. I was in film school when this was released and I can't imagine any other film having as much of an impact on so many people, for better of worse.
3
Taxi Driver (1976,  R)
Taxi Driver
A perfect film. So great and innovative in every department I'm actually a little shocked it's as mainstream as it is. The seventies sure were a different time.
4
Blue Collar (1978,  R)
Blue Collar
Paul Schrader's amazing debut starts out like a buddy comedy and turns into one of the most brutal films about the working class I've ever seen. It's hard to believe the cast, who worked so well together, despised one another. Pryor's greatest performance as well. Awesome.
5
Mean Streets (1973,  R)
Mean Streets
One of my favourite Scorsese flicks and one of the best religious films ever made. A great look at the Mob and Catholicism made with such heart and talent that even this early in his career, it was simple to tell Scorsese was going to be one of the greats.
6
The Last Temptation of Christ (1988,  R)
The Last Temptation of Christ
Awesome portrayal of Christ's life and hardships in being the son of God. Probably the greatest film I've ever seen in portraying Jesus' human side and one of Scorsese's masterpieces. It's too bad Christians stay away from this one in droves, because it's fantastic to see Jesus portrayed as something other than a supernatural being.
7
Cop Land (1997,  R)
Cop Land
Great drama about one good cop in a city of corrupt cops. Stallone is excellent along with the rest of the cast. I especially liked Patrick and Liotta in this one. One of the best, "A good man stands against all odds" films.
8
Clockers (1995,  R)
Clockers
Spike Lee's best film in my opinion. Like The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit, but with a crime story thrown in. I love how Phifer's character seems like a modern businessman under a lot of stress as he becomes the main suspect in a shooting. I also loved how the liberal minded cops are made out to be bigots by immediately seeking the easy answer on a case when the real answer is staring them in the face. A movie about responsibility and misplaced idealism.
9
The Duellists (1977,  PG)
The Duellists
My favourite Scott film (yes, more than Blade Runner) has Carradine spending his life facing duels with the previously insulted Keitel. A story about what is honour and responsibility, and also examines what it takes to be a man. A masterpiece.
10
The Piano (1993,  R)
The Piano
I inadvertently asked someone out on a date when I went to see this film. I only realized later that I did.
One of my favourite love stories, the whole cast is amazing and the story is actually touching. Plus, great direction from Campion.
11
Smoke (1995,  R)
Smoke
Awesome ensemble film with amazing performances and an intriguing story. Keitel's speech at the end is fantastic.
12
From Dusk Till Dawn (1996,  R)
From Dusk Till Dawn
Awesome horror film with great characters, dialogue and effects. Once the vampires take over the film (I wish they had advertised this as a gangster film, anyone who saw the trailer knew they were coming) it's one of the most fun siege films in recent memory. A really great story.
13
Holy Smoke! (2000,  R)
Holy Smoke!
Great, underrated comedy from Campion. Keitel is amazing as the cool cult deprogrammer who by the end is the most pathetic fool in the world. A really fun and funny film.
14
Fingers (1978,  R)
Fingers
Keitel plays a sensitive, womanizing mafia collector in Tobak's debut film. Heavily criticized on it's release, it has thankfully gained a cult audience thanks to people rediscovering it when Keitel got big again in the early 90s. A must see for fans of American seventies cinema and it's also nice to see Tisa Farrow playing opposite of someone who's not a zombie in an Italian horror film (not saying that I don't love those films as well).
15
Who's That Knocking at My Door? (1967,  R)
Who's That Knocking at My Door?
Fantastic debut from the awesome (at the time) Scorsese. Also, a great performance by Keitel in a film that could only be made at that time. A great mixture of religion and character drama.
16
The Border (1982,  R)
The Border
Great Nicholson and Keitel film that holds up to todays standards. A great morality piece and a fantastic story with great characters. I really need to see this again.
17
Bugsy (1991,  R)
Bugsy
Great biopic on Bugsy Siegel. When I saw this in the theater I was afraid it was going to be a whitewash and romantasizing of a gangster (look at the poster and I'm sure you can see where that thought came from), but to my surprise this was a real gritty and fact based movie. Good performances all around as well.
18
Dangerous Game (1993,  Unrated)
Dangerous Game
That's right! I like this film. Very much in fact. Hot on the heels on Ferrara's finest film, Bad Lieutenant, comes what is probably his most challenging one...and most bizarre. A lot of folks who thought Ferrara was on his way up after BL were put in their place by this uncompromising flick that leaves the viewer scratching their noggin. Still, whether you understand it or not (I don't remember it all too well, it's been years since I've seen it) it's entertaining and has all the elements I love in a Ferrara flick.

Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974,  PG)
Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore
A nice film from Scorsese with excellent characters and drama. And we have this to thank for TV's Alice!
20
La Mort en direct (Death Watch) (Death in Full View) (1980,  PG)
La Mort en direct (Death Watch) (Death in Full View)
More of a drama than one would expect from the plot summary, this is a great little film that probably rings truer today than when it was made, which made it seem like a sci fi.
21
Two Evil Eyes (1991,  R)
Two Evil Eyes
Great little horror film and my favourite Argento film. Heavily criticized on it's release, but much like many horror films of the day, has totally been re-evaluated on it's DVD release. The Black Cat is amazing, with a really strong performance by Keitel, but Romero's story is really good as well and perhaps his most underrated film. Recommended for fans of anthology horror.
22
Thelma & Louise (1991,  R)
Thelma & Louise
Well done feminist drama by Scott with great performances by the whole cast. The ending is pretty much ingrained in cinema history now.
23
Wise Guys (1986,  R)
Wise Guys
Oh, DePalma, will you ever be mainstream? A decent gangster comedy that played better when it was out than now when everyone has forgotten it's existence.
24
City of Industry (1997,  R)
City of Industry
Enjoyable crime film, though not that memorable (hence the short review).
25
Mother, Jugs & Speed (1976,  PG)
Mother, Jugs & Speed
Weird comedy with dark moments. Worth seeing for Cosby's and Keitel's performances.
26
Mortal Thoughts (1991,  R)
Mortal Thoughts
Decent mystery/thriller. Harvey Keitel is in it though!
27
Red Dragon (2002,  R)
Red Dragon
Flawed, but definitely not the piece of shit everyone claims it is. It's quite hip to hate Brett Ratner.
Also, I never was a huge fan of Manhunter, or Michael Mann for that matter, finding that to be a very flawed film as well, so it was fine to remake it. It's not like they remade Silence of the Lambs. Anyway, a good film that was fodder before it was completed for internet geeks to tear apart to hear themselves talk.
28
Saturn 3 (1980,  R)
Saturn 3
More fun than anything, it's well worth a watch for Keitel's performance... and the robot's.
29
Head Above Water (1996,  R)
Head Above Water
Dark comedy that is most remembered when it's played on late night cable. Other than that, it's completely forgotten. But Harvey Keitel's in it!
30
The January Man (1989,  R)
The January Man
Alright thriller, but no where near a great one.
31
The Young Americans (1993,  R)
The Young Americans
I remember getting a free screener for this from the video store I worked for, which was great since Keitel was in it. A decent crime film with another good Keitel performance.
32
Rising Sun (1993,  R)
Rising Sun
Mediocre pairing of two big Hollywood stars in a blah film. Granted, I'd probably like it more now since I know more about Japanese culture.
33
Lulu On The Bridge (1998,  PG-13)
Lulu On The Bridge
I had high hopes for another film starring Keitel and written by Paul Auster. It really wasn't that great and the payoff was more convoluted than not.
34
U-571 (2000,  PG-13)
U-571
Terribly dull submarine flick. Odd, I have a weakness for films that take place on boats, but if it's in a submarine it doesn't do anything for me. Maybe it's because I hate every sub film except Das Boot.
35
Full Tilt Boogie (1997,  R)
Full Tilt Boogie
Such a boring doc for such a fun movie. More of an anti-union piece mushed in with a puff piece. The actual DVD doc on From Dusk til Dawn is way more interesting.
36
Sister Act (1992,  PG)
Sister Act
The kind of crap one watches with their girlfriend. An abomination.
Granted, I'm not the audience for this one, which I thank God every day for.
