Phillip Bradley Bird, better known as Brad Bird, is the two-time Academy Award-winning American director of Disney/Pixar's critical and box office hits The Incredibles (2004) and Ratatouille (2007). He also wrote and directed the 1999 Warner Bros. film The Iron Giant. Following the immense critical and commercial success of The Iron Giant, The Incredibles and Ratatouille, he is now widely considered as arguably the finest director in the medium of animation. Reviewing the Ratatouille DVD, Eye Weekly offered this characterization of Bird's work: "It’s hard to think of another mainstream American director with a comparably fluid visual style or such a vise-grip on storytelling mechanics."

In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations, the new needs friends. Last night, I experienced something new, an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau's famous motto: Anyone can cook. But I realize, only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteau's, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in France. I will be returning to Gusteau's soon, hungry for more.

My review:

This is my favourite PIXAR film so far because I just love the whole story in general. It really makes me feel happy. The original score in the music is absolutely superb. That is just heardwarming and joyful which makes it perfect for the film. I love all of the characters within this film aswell. Remy is an awesome character because he will stop at nothing even risking his life but to become a chef. Now that is an absolutely passion for wanting to achieve what your heart is set on. I love Linguinis character aswell because he is a young man who doesnt really get things right but when him and Remy work together, he makes something out of himself and is underestimated. Skinner is my favourite character from the whole film and is my favourite PIXAR villain. These reasons being that he is a small greedy chef who wants every single bit of Gusteaus restaurant. Also, he feels he can boss and bully other chefs in the restaurant around particularly Linguini because he is the boss in the restaurant. The funny thing is that a small man is bossing bigger people around. I love his French accent aswell whos voice is Ian Holm. I love Anton Ego aswell. He is the top food critic in all of France. He has very harsh reviews of all foods. Because of his review at Gusteaus before it made Gusteau himself die of shock. Also, Anton is a slim tall man who loves food and has a small appetite for food when he says harsh and nasty things to the owners and chefs of the restaurants. His voice is of legendary actor Peter O'Toole. Most of all, this film has the best animation that I have ever seen a film have. I dont think any animated film can have better animation than Ratatouille. This was really well directed by Brad Bird. I thought this was better than The Incredibles. I am unsure whether this will be my favourite PIXAR until I watch WALL-E, Up, Toy Story 3, Newt, The Bear And The Bow, John Carter Of Mars and Cars 2. I will find out when they are released and when I watch them.

Your boy's suit I designed to withstand enormous friction without heating up or wearing out, a useful feature. Your daughter's suit was tricky, but I finally created a sturdy material that can disappear completely as she does. Your suit can stretch as far as you can without injuring yourself, and still retain its shape. Virtually indestructible, yet it breathes like Egyptian cotton.

My review:

The Incredibles is an awesome fantasy action-packed thrill ride with alot of character and alot of hilarious humour and jkokes within the characters in this film. The best characters in my opinion are Edna Mode aka E who is voiced by director Brad Bird. She is a character who has a very serious job for the superheroes but brings her size voice and personality into the comedy of the film. When she helps Bob design a suit for him and his family and also when she tells Helen of Bobs whereabouts things within the film completely turn around. Bobs Insuricare boss Gilbert Huph is another character that changed alot of things in the film. Because he is a really small man and he pressurises Bob in his job and because of that Bob hates him so mch. The turning point in that character is when Bob throws Huph through 5 walls and gets fired. That changes alot aswell. It is superb that all of the Parr family have completely different sort of powers. I love Brad Birds work in this film and the Iron Giant. But I particularly love his work in Ratatouille. Brad Bird is my favourite animated director and he is one of my favourite directors aswell.
