High Plains Drifter
The stranger comes back again into an isolated, affected town whose peace and tranquility are disturbed by outsiders cowboyns and gunfighters, until Clint Eastwood came, only to get things solved in his way. Perhaps the most totally badass and son of a b!tch Eastwood I've ever seen. Good western overall.

A Perfect World
Clint Eastwood's reversed Sugarland Express is an unexpected surprise! Kevin Costner haters, beware: You'll be as surprised as I was. A nice, pace, surprising performances and a satisfying outcome despite its constant signs of American melodrama. Among Eastwood's most entertaining films.

Space Cowboys
Combine the future optimism Eastwood eagerly wanted to show this decade and combine it with the mindless patriotism and idiocy of Michael Bay. The result is Space Cowboys, one of the first films where Eastwood wants to show most of his supposedly badass style through making uninterested mockery of his own age. Fun, but nothing more.

Blood Work (2002,  R)
Blood Work
"Clint Eastwood's Blood Work is a refreshing reminder that Hollywood's young Turks can still learn a lesson from good old-fashioned craftsmanship."

Haha! Right! Eastwood has lost it and just when I thought he couldn't top the lousiness of his patriotism in Space Cowboys, he did. Blood Work is a project that still wants to show Eastwood as the ultmate bad-ass guy despite his age following the most formulaic elements of an average crime film. It disappoints, so my advice is to stay away.

A fine Clint Eastwood film. Complicated, but very well made. Fine cast and directing.

Very dramatic, but Clint still has talent. It stole the Academy Awards though.

Flags of Our Fathers (2006,  R)
Flags of Our Fathers
Flags of Our Fathers tells the true story about the battle held between American and Japanese soldiers in the island of Iwo Jima during WWII from the American perspective. The film has a great direction and good visual and sound effects, but it is extremelly patriotic and felt that this didn't give credit to the Japanese human side at all, since we all are humans. Throughout the film, American soldiers are represented like the all-time heroes the world has had so far and its over-the-top patriotic. It is very dramatic and moving, but at some point I was tired of so much glorifying. Good effort, but VERY HOLLYWOOD.

...

This is what I was talking about... Amazing film portraying the perspective I wanted to see and analyze. Ken Watanabe and his representation of General Kuribayashi totally amazed me. This story focuses more on the plot and the characters rather than the action, and you trully see how the Japanese are very persistent, emotional, patriotic, respectful and, most important of all, HUMAN. Outstanding Clint Eastwood film: congratulations, and thanks.

Changeling (2008,  R)
Changeling
I finally got the opportunity to see this film... Since Clint Eastwood directed Unforgiven (1992), I started to have faith in him as a director. Although he didn't deserve the Academy Award in Million Dollar Baby (2004), I pretty much enjoyed that film. Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) was his next masterpiece, and finally Changeling is for my taste a forced attempt to make a contemporary masterpiece.

Changeling is based on a true story and is decently brought to the screen. The last performance I really liked of Angelina Jolie was in Girl, Interrupted (1999), in which he won an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Although I didn't like the fact that her anxiety became noticeable for winning an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, I really can't complain. She was terrific, but could've been better. The problems I had with her performance are several. First of all, some of the decisions that she took just didn't seem natural. Her performance was sometimes weak, and some other times overacted; she just didn't seem to hit the nail several times. Considering the fact that she is representing the image of an admirable American mother and a good example to follow, I wasn't really convinced with the supposedly strong emotional connection she had with her lost son. Can't really blame her though, since she ain't used to this kind of roles. John Malkovich was pretty good as well, although considering his acting talents and past roles in awesome films, I was expecting a more powerful performance by him, no matter if he played a supporting role.

The direction is pretty sweet and so it is the screenplay. The tone of the film drastically changes at some point from being dramatic to somewhat thrilling and macabre. It worked for me. The art direction was a really had work, specially because of the set decorarion. It indeed is a remarkable work. I felt like back in time. The pace and length is perfect for this kind of story, and I didn't feel those 141 minutes at all. I missed seeing an intense modern film such as this one. Gran Torino was cool, but not as good as this one as for genre goes. This movie is a nice proof of how strong the human spirit can be, and how immense the love of a mother really is. The film got 3 Oscar nominations including Best Achievement in Art Direction, Best Achievement in Cinematography and Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role. The film really deserved the first one. It was a truly admirable work and the sets were really huge but well constructed. Inspirational overall.

Gran Torino (2009,  R)
Gran Torino
So, yes... Eastwood plays a Korean-war vet once again. His racist issues, patriotism and stupid melodrama are already nauseating. This kind of lazy productions are already getting tiring and, although his presence on screen is still cool, it usually feels like he still believes himself to be a gunman. It tries to be moving, but it is not. It tries to be touching, but fails. It tries to question the morality of modern society, but such topic has already been treated several times and, frankly, I'm getting bored. It has a decent direction, but weak performances and a mediocre screenplay made it fall...
