The Sugarland Express (1974, PG)
Objectively speaking, this is among the best films Steven Spielberg ever made. It has an epic feeling to it, and adapting the intense tension used in Duel (1971), The Sugarland Express has a highly effective pace and enough character development for calling it a masterpiece and an unforgettable journey. A shocking account, this was almost among the best films of the 70's. |

1941 (1979, PG)
Let's get something straight. For those who actually prefer ANY Spielberg film of the last decade over the histerical and great lunacy ride that 1941 represents, you should have a different perspective. After watching the prolonged director's cut, I came to the conclusion that most of the hatred towards this film came from the constant screaming, the nonsense plot, and the fact that audiences by that time could not understand that it was meant to be a spoof, not to mention that people who had lived during the Pearl Harbor attacked may have felt seriously offended. Few times had so much originality and a HILARIOUS, masterful Toshirô Mifune caused so much crazy effectiveness. It should be interpreted as a spoof... When had you seen a director spoofing himself through references of his past films? So, this is the first sign of Spielberg resorting to a massive budget, a characteristic that most of his modern films share, but a parody of such calibre and breathtaking moments of stupidity has not been released yet for a long time. Among Spielberg's most underrated films. |

Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark) (1981, PG)
A classic hero in a classic, timeless film. Among Spielberg's most memorable epics. Yes, it shares a strong resemblance with past, memorable giants of the genre, making it an adventurous tribute, but it truly is one of the director's best masterpieces, an iconic character for new demanding masses and an unforgettable action ride. |

Hook (1991, PG)
Just when I thought Spielberg couldn't make a film worse than The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), he does. This is the kind of films you usually find being screened on a bus. The magical touch of Spielberg has been lost and ridiculed in a shameful way. A famous cast having laughter and fun during production wasn't supposed to promise a satisfying result, now was it? |

Munich (2005, R)
Great Spielberg modern masterpiece. Although the film focuses specifically on the acts of the Mossad agents hired to track down and exterminate the Palestinian terrorist group (Black September) responsible for the kidnapping of eleven Israeli athletes during the 1972 Olympoc Games held in Munich, the execution and pace of the film works pretty fine. The direction is as good as we have always seen from this great director and the performances are very decent. |
