Love Actually (2003, R)
I actually liked it. I really liked how they intertwined the eight separate stories. Everyone was likeable in the movie and the acting was good too. This may sound bad, but I think it was a little too British for me. I didn't quite get some of their slang. Anyway, this is a really good and unique romantic comedy. |

The Polar Express (2004, G)
It's a good movie to watch every Christmas. The elves are kind of Nazi-like and creepy, and the songs aren't that great, but I think it will probably become a holiday perennial film. Robert Zemeckis's motion capture technology has a long way to go if he ever wants to make traditional animation obsolete. The characters' expressions are bland and boring because of this premature technology. I have a love-hate relationship with this movie. |

Fred Claus (2007, PG)
Poor Vince Vaughn... you're so funny, but this movie isn't. And what's up with the cartoon noises during the "hilarious" beat-downs by the ninja elves? So many people are wasted here: Vaughn, Elizabeth Banks, Kathy Bates, Rachel Weisz, Elizabeth Banks... the list goes on. Siimple put, Fred Claus is a mess of a movie with an interesting story idea but horrible execution. |
