The Constant Gardener (2005, R)
an excellently made and wonderfully acted (ralph fiennes broke my heart) love story. but don't think this movie is just about the two main characters- its message is quite powerful. i love the exotic setting. its only faults are that it jumps around a bit too much and is a little confusing at times. |

Capote (2005, R)
an excellent, interesting, chilling movie. it's very dramatic, thanks to taut writing and direction. the entire cast is amazing, but philip seymour hoffman truly shines. he really did deserve his oscar. i mean, he is truman capote. it's actually freaky to watch him as himself in the featurettes after the movie. |

One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975, R)
such a great tale of the human spirit, but wow, it really sucks the life right out of you. halfway through, i said, hey, this isn't' as grim as i thought it would be- well, i was wrong. the ending shall haunt me forever. it's magnificent, though, with wonderful direction and an amazing performance by jack nicholson and the entire cast. louise fletcher is scarier than any horror movie monster as nurse ratched. |

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008, PG-13)
A beautiful, wonderful, magical little movie. The story is so simple, yet so powerful in both its beauty and its sadness. Brad Pitt plays Ben Button with such wonderful childlike innocence in his youth, such beautiful wisdom in his old age, that I defy any viewer to believe he really is as old/young as he looks at any given point in the movie. Taraji P. Henson steals the show as Ben's loving nanny. Did I ever tell you I was struck by lightning seven times? |

The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999, R)
beautiful, intelligent, and chilling. the first few minutes are hard to get into, but things only get more and more interesting as the film progresses, finally reaching a shattering conclustion. the entire supporting cast is great, but jude law really stands out- he is just fantastic. matt damon is amazing as well, crafting a character who is both horrible but undeniably sympathetic. |

Crash (2004, R)
a very interesting and emotional movie that is also extremely powerful and draws you in COMPLETELY. the story is excellent and the acting is amazing all around. the main problem with the movie is that it tries to say way too much about race, and just ends up being preachy. the language starts to get annoying after a while too. still, it's amazing how all of the characters are connected, and how none of them ever become stereotypes. |
