Little Miss Sunshine (2006,  R)
Little Miss Sunshine 4.5 Stars
A little film that just brings sunshine to your heart! A sweet, lovely film that seems desperate in the beginning but ends with a dance that you'll never forget. Great performances from the little Abigail Breslin which is like the Haley Joel Osment of today and Steve Carell makes you rethink his film career to a high level. Carell could be the next Robin Williams in more dramatic roles.

Little Children (2006,  R)
Little Children 4.5 Stars
I think its the best i've seen from Todd Field. The script is amazingly brilliant not to forget the mind-blowing performances of Kate Winslet and Jackie Earle Haley (who is quite disturbing may i mention). The film depicts the reality of suburban life. It also resembles to Mendes' AMERICAN BEAUTY in its use of family and social values. For people who think that the suburban life is nice and calm and harmless, think again 'cause this film will completely change your view.

The Queen (2006,  PG-13)
The Queen 4.0 Stars
First, i should mention how couragous Peter Morgan is to write such a real and direct script that points out a deeply real image of her majesty. Its amazing how the Queen and her husband are ruthless and selfish. Helen Mirren really nailed it with her performance. She seemed like she is the real queen and not some look a like. From the way she talks or the way walks as if there is something stuck between her legs, every gestures made were well-obseved to portray a realistic image.

Not a feel good film, but an incredible view of humanity and morality in life. Not to forget the astonishing ensemble cast that just delivers breath taking performances especially Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi.

The Departed (2006,  R)
The Departed 4.5 Stars
This film was more than I expected. Amazing cast, not to forget. DiCaprio is like the new version of Robert DeNiro. Damon, which often plays the good guy, portrays a perfect bad guy. Wahlberg cursed more than we can imagine. And Nicholson is fucked up as always. But not the best from Scorsese as some would say.

Letters from Iwo Jima (2007,  R)
Letters from Iwo Jima 4.5 Stars
The dedication and love to a country is what the Japaneses demonstrated in this picture. Considering that it is a follow up to FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS, this film feels much close and intimate to my heart than the american vision of Iwo Jima.

Flags of Our Fathers (2006,  R)
Flags of Our Fathers 4.5 Stars
This war film goes beyond the killings, it explores also the aftermath of the soldiers' lives which brought up the flag. Eastwood adapted a great perspective of war that we do not often see in war films. He told a story that made soldiers more important than ever. Adam Beach didnt act, but was the person which he was playing. No doubt he is going to be nominated for some awards this year.

Children of Men (2006,  R)
Children of Men 4.5 Stars
First thing first. The camera choreography was absolutely amazing. I've never seen anything spectacular in terms of moving camera aesthetic since Welles' CITIZEN KANE. Vey very well edited and shot. The travelling shots really put you into the mood of the action and movement. It transports us to every step of the characters. Especially by the end during the shooting scene. Really amazing!
The story wise, it is very original and smart as well. The story seems realistic considering all the damages we have done to humankind. I'm not even exaggerating. The subject matter wouldnt be affective until you really think about it.
The cast was alright. Clive Owen, Julianne Moore, Michael Caine and Chiwetel Ejiofor have always been good actors so there is not much to say. Although, Caine really stands out in this film.

Dreamgirls (2006,  PG-13)
Dreamgirls 4.0 Stars
I've always admire Bill Condon's work and this one surely did not disapoint me. Not being a big fan of musical or broadway, this film impressed me with the astonishing performances of Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy, which also clearly explains why they each received an oscar nominations. Plus, the music is very good and delivers some messages of hope.

Thank You For Smoking (2005,  R)
Thank You For Smoking 4.5 Stars
One of the smartest comedy/satire film made since a long time. A film that describes our politicians' way of talking to the population, but Eckhart's character seems just a little more clever and manipulative. A film that'll make some viewers more critical on what they hear and see, and maybe create a better understanding of how the society is being manipulated by whatever is around.

The Good Shepherd (2006,  R)
The Good Shepherd 4.0 Stars
I do not recommend this film to everyone because it might killl you after 30 minutes. There are many back and forth between the present and the past. Plus, there are many political issues discussed which may bored many people to death. As for me, this ingenious film was mind blowing. Despite that it was nearly 3 hours long, the film was well-written. Very slow paced and without action. The story resembles to SYRIANA but set in the 1940s and 1960s during the WWII and its unsolved mysteries. The cast was incredible and Damon always amazes me since SYRIANA. Without a question DeNiro, Baldwin and Hurt nailed their performances.

Blood Diamond (2006,  R)
Blood Diamond 4.5 Stars
After this film, diamonds wont be the girls' best friend anymore, and we wont take everything for granted anymore either. We see how the African population go through everyday, even now. If its not the diamonds, it'll be the Rebels.
DiCaprio is more mature and better than ever, Hounsou is marvelous as always and Africans will be embrace by more people around the universe than ever before.
A politically correct film not to be missed.

Notes on a Scandal (2006,  R)
Notes on a Scandal 4.5 Stars
The brilliance of this film comes from the unbelievable and strong cast. I think it is the most scandalise cast of the year 2006. I didnt know if i should feel imconfortable to see Blanchett having an affair with a teenager or seeing Dench next crazy move. Not to forget Bill Nighy as the 'old' husband who simple lives his life happily until the secret came out. I strongly recommend this marvelous psychological thriller for its great script but mainly its great achivement in acting.

Water 4.5 Stars
Absolutely adored this film. A film that truly touched me. The depiction of the politic of religion and how women in India are affected by the laws show how the country in the 1930s wasnt a fair place to live. By representing the problems through an 8 year old girl's eyes makes the film even more affective. The best Canadian film of the year even though it wasnt based on the country.

WOW! I hated THE NOTEBOOK so much that I almost missed this film. Gosling was exceptional and so is the young student Shareeka Epps. Very mature and unique duo!
