The Dark Knight (2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight 5.0 Stars
Not since Superman in 1978 has a movie presented the myth of the superhero so effectively. Suspenseful, riveting action is matched by a grim, morally complex story. Heath Ledger is unforgettable as the Joker, but so is Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent. Finally! A recent mainstream superhero movie that qualifies as high art.

Probably the greatest tribute to simply holding hands since that Beatles song. Charming, utterly likable story about love, saving the world, consumerism and befriending your fellow man. Stunning!

Flawless (2007,  PG-13)
Flawless 3.5 Stars
60s period detail is lovingly created in this woefully unappreciated "gem" of a movie about a jewel heist. Michael Caine is great as expected, but so is Demi Moore, who gives a mature, sophisticated performance

"I'm not a baby, I'm a tumor." A line spoken by just one of the many weird and fantastic creatures that make this movie so entertaining. One of those rare movies where the CGI is backed up by characters we actually care about.

Sort of a cross between "Fight Club", "The Matrix" and "Revenge of the Nerds", this bizarre action movie has giant weaving looms, pig carcasses and exploding rats.
