Best of 2005

My second favorite comic book movie of all time. Christian Bale is great as Batman. There are so many great things about this movie, I don't know where to start! One of the best of the year.

I never liked Johnny Cash's music until this movie. Great performances by Jaoquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon.

Very thought provoking and moving. The ending really makes you think.

The movie actually made me care about what happened to Kong. Naomi Watts is great. And it is not "too long." I like long movies. One cheesy part that makes me cringe: the slow-motion typewriter. It was a good idea, but it turned out way wrong. Update: I still like it, but it was a lot better the first time.

I don't usually like British humor, but I really enjoyed it.

It's not Spielberg's best film, but it was still well made and interesting. It is really thought provoking because it makes you think about what the characters are doing. It was definately better the second time. Strangely, it wasn't boring at all. It was over before I even knew it.

This movie was really funny. It was endlessly creative and very original. Steve Carell was fantastic. He will definately become a big star. I never laugh out loud, but this movie made me do it. It could have been a gross-out sex comedy, but instead it was a hilarious movie with likeable characters.

It was a very good, well done movie. The cast was great, and the plot was completely engaging. I think I would have done the ending differently, but it was satisfactory.

It was great, and the songs are really good too. But, it just didn't live up to "The Nightmare Before Christmas."

Transamerica is a great film with a fascinating look at the life of a transsexual. The film has a plethora of great performances.

Very creepy, and it makes you think. It's really underrated. I loved the ending, even though everyone else on earth hated it.

I liked this one even more than the really short book. The music is really cool. And the kid actors aren't terrible like I expected...

Very inspirational, but it kind of dragged on. Despite it being boring at times, it was a very, very good movie. Russell Crow and Renee Zellweger were great. The turtle thing was cool.

The first time, I didn't like it. The second time I watched it, I had a blast. It has great characters, a complex storyline, and witty dialogue (though Joss Whedon tried a little too hard to get a laugh sometimes). The special effects aren't that spectacular, but the plot makes up for them. Though I didn't watch the TV show this movie is based on ("Firefly"), I never found myself lost. Nathan Fillion is perfect as the "boat" 's captain, Mal. I would definately watch a sequel.

Pitt and Jolie have great chemistry in this movie. It is a really good movie that's hilarious. It's definately a guilty pleasure of mine.

A good suspense movie. Rachel McAdams is really great in it. Cillian Murphy is perfect as the villain.

It's a good movie, but, as with all of the Harry Potter movies, the book is so much better. It is a little too choppy at times and lacks the feeling of flow that the third movie achieved. Some of the scenes the filmmakers created that weren't in the books were funny (like the dance lesson), but they kind of messed up the plot on this one. I absolutely HATE the part when Dumbledore pushes Harry up against the wall. The REAL Dumbledore would never do that. The old Dumbledore from films one and two was so much better.

I wasn't expecting much from this movie, but it was pretty good. I'm not sure if I liked Pierce Brosnan or not, but I've never really been a fan of his. I did, however, really like the characters played by Greg Kinnear and Hope Davis. They were really likeable. The ending was really good.

Philip Seymour Hoffman was great in this movie. It was an all-around good movie.

If you're expecting an action movie, you will be disappointed by Jarhead. It is a good, well-written drama about Marines, not a "shoot 'em up" war movie. All the performances in this movie are pretty good. I felt that Gyllenhaal could have given a little more, but he was good. It is worth a watch.

A clever mix of film noir, comic books, and lots of people doing bad things. The style of the film was wonderful. The second time I watched it, I enjoyed it a lot more. The huge ensemble cast is great.

Strangely unboring. I kind of liked it. It was a smart choice to do it in black and white. Not the best movie of the year, but it was good.

No doubt well-made and beautifully acted, but it was a little too preachy towards the end. Charlize Theron and Frances McDormand are fantastic. It's really weird to see Sean Bean in a part where he isn't a psycho, maniac, or a terrorist.

I can't help but being a little disappointed. Some parts felt weird. But it was definately funny. Matthew Broderick proves once again how great he is. Some songs are good, others forgettable. I want to see the original now.

I liked it better than Jumanji. It was a good family movie, even if the only lesson is to be nice to your brother.

It was pretty good. It's not super-scary or anything, but the whole 3:00 thing kind of creeps me out. I really liked how it was half horror half courtroom drama. I've never seen anything like it before. The movie really makes you think.

First of all, I don't really see why this movie was rated R. Second of all, I didn't feel that the lead actor (Rhys-Meyers) was that great, nor was Scarlett Johansson.

It surprised me. I really enjoyed it. *spoiler* I'm so glad that that girl and the Jewish guy got together.

This movie made me feel stupid. It was confusing, but no doubt a well-done movie. George Clooney was good, but did he really deserve an Oscar for his work? I think the Academy just felt like they needed to reward him for something because 2005 was such a great year for him (Good Night, and Good Luck AND Syriana). It will confuse you, but if you try hard enough, it will make enough sense for you to understand that it IS a good movie. I should probably watch it again.

The story is good, and it makes you care about the characters. But there's too many butt/fart jokes. I want to ride the Robot City thingy.

I usually hate Michael Bay's movies, but I liked this one. I love the concept of clones escaping.

Pros: catchy music and likeable characters. Cons: terrible dialogue and questionable acting skills. Overall, it is an entertaining guilty pleasure movie.

Though I think it was a big mistake to cast Chinese people as Japanese people (how stupid!), this film was still good. Very well done.

Wow. This movie took me by surprise. It is completely original and really funny. All of the cast in this movie is terrific. It is a great romantic comedy. Rob Reiner, the director, (who also directed When Harry Met Sally) is terrific.
