Every so often a film comes around that challenges not only how you watch movies, but makes you realize the impact that great storytelling can have on your life. This is one of those films.

Volver (2006,  R)
Volver 4.5 Stars
A genuine masterpiece!!! Almodovar's best work is also quite possibly the best woman's film I've ever seen. It's a shame that there are so few movies and female roles like these.

I can't think of an espionage thriller that is more tense and well-balanced than this almost pitch perfect film from Germany.

Babel (2006,  R)
Babel 4.5 Stars
Babel is a better film than Crash in every way. It's themes of miscommunication are universal and deal with a much wider variety of characters. The scope of the film is amazing. It's like four different films in one but all relate back to the central theme.

The Departed 4.0 Stars
Solid entertainment. It's exciting, filled with great performances, and old school Scorsese nuances. I don't think it's Scorsese's best, mainly because I don't think he ever stumbled as a filmmaker like so many have criticized.

Cuaron's stunning vision has produced some of the best action sequences I've ever seen.

There are so many great twists and unexpected turns that you just give up trying to figure out what's going on and just let the movie take you where it wants to go.

This film is about emotion, not plot. Poetic and beautiful to watch.
