Transformers (2007,  PG-13)
Transformers
Amazing special effects using CG. I was completely entertained for the entire duration of the film. Brilliant direction Michael Bay.

Shia La Boef was fantastic in his role. This movie was even more than I expected. A blockbuster masterpiece.

Top 5

Best Picture of 2007.

300 (2007,  R)
300
Epic cinematography, and the epitome of action films. It's taken a mere 16 years since Terminator II: Judgment Day but there is a new benchmark in the action genre.

Top 10.

Hot Fuzz (2007,  R)
Hot Fuzz
Masterful cinematography and direction. The best satirical comedy by miles.

There is a healthy mix of what I would consider British, US, and even Australian styles of humour in this piece.

Some viewers may find it drawn out, but it was perfectly paced for me. The jokes and climactic scene are well worth the build up.

Blades of Glory (2007,  PG-13)
Blades of Glory
Wow. I laughed very hard during this ridiculously well written comedy.

Once again you need to appreciate this type of humour, or it is nothing. You will either hate this, or you Will Farrell, who is matched perfectly with Jon Hader.

Thanks for the recommendation Craig.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End (2007,  PG-13)
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End
I was pleasantly surprised to find this film slightly better than it's predecessor, once again in the saga.

I found the film so exciting that I didn't even attempt to predict the obvious story twists as the movie progressed.

Ratatouille (2007,  G)
Ratatouille
Fantastic. The animation was beautiful, and so realistic, however characterised, that it was easy to mistake it for live action unless paying attention to the rendering.

I think the story elements may be drawn out for a particularly younger audience, but I enjoyed the pacing amongst such a magnificent backdrop.

Thanks for the recommendations; Brett; Monique; Kevin.

Day Watch (Dnevnoi Dozor) (2007,  R)
Day Watch (Dnevnoi Dozor)
Wonderfully flowing from the original film, and despite my expectations after seeing the trailers, I very much enjoyed watching this movie.

It is very rare that an ending of this kind can satisfy me us much as it did here. Surprisingly humourous also.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007,  PG-13)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Fantastic, and the best in the series of films to date. The slimmed screenplay kept enough important story from the novels to still hold the attention of those who have not read them- paced to perfection. It felt a lot shorter than its screening length.

The one aspect I have found neglected in the novels are the action sequences that do not carry the dark and dangerous events that take place. Here is where this film shines greater than the books. The superb directing of the action sequences succeed where their narrative counterparts are lacking.
9
Michael Clayton (2007,  R)
Michael Clayton
Some may find the slow progression early too distracting, but I enjoyed the forced pacing. Overall the film has been pieced together very thoughtfully, and well. And it shows.
10
Superbad (2007,  R)
Superbad
A good modern teen comedy is so vastly different from those made a decade ago it can be difficult to put them in the same category. This film intelligently executes hilarious idiot humour. I laughed a great deal in the theater watching it.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007,  PG)
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Coming from someone that enjoyed the first film, this was a fantastic sequel. Better than the original.

I felt that the melodramatic acting was fitting for a comic to screen adaptation. The plot was awesome and well executed, including the prelude to the next film.

12
Miss Potter (2007,  PG)
Miss Potter
Beautifully captured on film, reminiscent of Beatrix Potter's watermark illustrations. A simply eloquent story with a touch of creative imaginings and characters eccentric enough to adore, yet real enough to find in life.
13
Ocean's Thirteen (2007,  PG-13)
Ocean's Thirteen
This would have made the perfect sequal. Thankfully they did not try to recapture the same element of mystery from the first film, instead they brought the outstanding cast back into a superbly crafted scenario.

Thanks for the recommendations; Tess; Starbuck; Brian; Nuno; Gabriel; Devin; Dominique.

Reign Over Me (2007,  R)
Reign Over Me
I was hoping for a greater dramatic role from Adam Sandler, but he did play the role well. I enjoyed the topic and the aproach. The characters felt quite real to me.

Next (2007,  PG-13)
Next
I felt that this spin on supernatural subject matter was done quite well. I was able to follow the direction the film was taking without any trouble, and I enjoyed the thinking it provoked.

This is turning out to be a good year for Nicolas Cage for me.

Thanks for the recommendations; Therese; Lisa.

Ghost Rider (2007,  PG-13)
Ghost Rider
This film was a pleasant surprise. It started out very exciting and enthralling, and even though it did drop off towards the end from that standard it still left me entertained and wanting more.

Thanks for the recommendation Dean.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (2007,  PG-13)
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
Another great Adam Sandler comedy. This film had me cackling quite a lot, and I thoroughly enjoyed the topic of humour.

TMNT: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Great animation, and an awesome film for Ninja Turtle fans.
20
Smokin' Aces (2007,  R)
Smokin' Aces
Entertaining, and fun. This movie has enough well crafted simple characters to fill a deck of cards.

Reno 911!: Miami (2007,  R)
Reno 911!: Miami
This is a specific style of humour that you would likely know you appreciate or not from the trailer.

Filmed in mocumentory style, it screens like an extended episode of a skit comedy show with a faintly linear story progression.

From the opening gag I was laughing heartily. A lot of the comedy was hugely appealing to me.
22
Music and Lyrics (2007,  PG-13)
Music and Lyrics
I'm not sure how I can enjoy alot of Hugh Grants one-dimensional character roles, but I can enjoy romanitic comedies scripted this well. Predictable story, but I smiled and laughed alot.
23
Lucky You (2007,  PG-13)
Lucky You
When you make a movie involving Texas Hold 'em it takes time to build the correct atmosphere, or it would be better to cut any scenes using play.

This movie has this in spades, so those who do not follow poker may find the important aspects of the film do not hold the intended impact.

Using relationships, the setting for the theme is well crafted. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
24
Shooter (2007,  R)
Shooter
Brilliant progression, and an interesting plot that only falls apart a little towards the end. I enjoyed this more than I expected.
25
Sunshine (2007,  R)
Sunshine
Perhaps expecting less from this film made it more enjoyable, but it held my interest and entertained me throughout.

Resident Evil: Extinction (2007,  R)
Resident Evil: Extinction
This was equally appealing, and for the same reasons, as the sequel. The action was great to watch, and the use of sound made me jump involuntarily several times despite my best attempts to remain composed.

27
Rush Hour 3 (2007,  PG-13)
Rush Hour 3
I found this a great third film in this comedy series. The laughs were equally plentiful, and this duo has proven to be highly entertaining.

Thanks for the recommendations; Tess; Dominique.

No Reservations (2007,  PG)
No Reservations
This film will wet your appetite for both cuisine and relationships, if you are not turned off by romantic comedies.
29
Eastern Promises (2007,  R)
Eastern Promises
This felt very much like A History Of Violence with one exception. This succeeded where I felt the former failed dismally.

Catch and Release (2007,  PG-13)
Catch and Release
The highlight of this movie was Kevin Smith's role.

The film was well made, and held my interest, yet is not about anything specifically relevant to my life, so was held back by its story somewhat.

Thanks for the recommendation Brian.
31
Evan Almighty (2007,  PG)
Evan Almighty
To be perfectly honest this exceeded my low expectations. I am a fan of Steve Carell and this is a good example of why. He can still make me laugh with little to work with.

Thanks for the recommendations; Lisa; Nelson; Tess.

Surf's Up (2007,  PG)
Surf's Up
coming out around a time where penguin movies were strangling themselves, this was a gem

Great animation, and fantastic characters. Pretty funny too. An animated film for kids of all ages.

The Kingdom (2007,  R)
The Kingdom
I probably ended up enjoying this more because it was not what I was expecting.

These types of films can be hard to swallow, but the story was entertaining.

The Number 23 (2007,  R)
The Number 23
More proof that Jim Carey can pull off serious roles as well, if not better, than his comedic ones. Thanks for the recommendations; Jose; Lisa; KJ; Nelson.

Mr. Brooks (2007,  R)
Mr. Brooks
Using a unique take with an uncommon style, the plot of this film combined with an over competent cast made an enjoyable mystery movie.

American Gangster (2007,  R)
American Gangster
Yet again Denzel Washington takes a strong violent character and shows us how it should be done, human and ferocious.
39
Noise (2007,  Unrated)
Noise
This is an interesting tale of a modern life vigilante portrayed only as Tim Robin's could.
