Best of Swedish

  1. Arlecchino
  2. Sofia

I don't normally like Swedish movies, they tend to try too hard to be deep, but these are simply unique.
(For those who don't know; I come from Sweden)

Petri tårar (1995,  PG)
Petri tårar
Carlo Marcellini is a con-artist travelling around medieval Sweden selling what he calls "the tears of S:t Peter". These tears will cure every sickness and disease thinkable, even death is reversable. Little do people suspect that Marcellini is a woman, and little do Mark, the son of the town mayor, suspect that his love Carla is anything but true...
I love this movie. No matter what people tell me, this IS good.

Ronja Rövardotter (Ronia, the Robber's Daughter)
This is another childhood favorite of mine, and after watching it again it's still no wonder that I wanted to be just like this girl.

Arn - Tempelriddaren (Arn: The Knight Templar) (2007,  Unrated)
Arn - Tempelriddaren (Arn: The Knight Templar)
Ok, for everyone who thought that this was a slow and cheesy movie altogether: JAN GUILLOU IS SLOW AND CHEESY!!! This is exactly what it is supposed to be! The author of this story (Jan, mentioned above) loves being unbearably slow and sometimes even boring. But that doesn't mean that it's a bad story, it doesn't mean that it's an action movie just because there are war sequences, it's about romance and surviving, CAN'T YOU GET THAT INTO YOUR THICK SKULLS??!!?
Ahem. Deep breaths.
I didn't love this movie, but it irritates me that people judge it without knowing what it's ment to be. I haven't read the books but I've been bored to death with documentaries about the books, theories around the book and sneak peeks of the movie itself. This movie is the largest movie in Swedish movie history. No wonder that the hype was as huge as it was despite the fact that the actual film didn't turn out a masterpiece, and honestly... I can't wait to see the second one. Mostly because I've met Joakim Netterquist and thinks that he's gorgeous. But only in the beard.
There. I've said it.

Arn - Riket vid vägens slut (Arn: The Kingdom at Road's End) (2008,  Unrated)
Arn - Riket vid vägens slut (Arn: The Kingdom at Road's End)
Arn continues his struggle against time and death in the Holy Land Jerusalem, awaiting the day when he can finally return to Västra Götaland to meet up with his beloved Cecilia and fight for his king Knut.
Ha! Arn the superhuman wields his sword justly. Joakim Nätterqvist has really grown into the part of Arn wonderfully. Despite the movie being a bit jumpy, skipping from one year to 6 or 8 years after, it's good. Me being the scpetic I am of the Swedish language liked the parts when Arn were still in Jerusalem best. Those bits also offered the best fighting sequenses and the best music.
Saladin ftw!

Show Me Love (Fucking Amal) (1999,  Unrated)
Show Me Love (Fucking Amal)
Young love. It's beautiful and I've been there... just like many other.
The Swedish title is much better than the English however.
