Rushmore
My favorite Wes Anderson film as of now. You've got to give credit to Jason Schwartzman's performance as Max, as he was a completely unknown actor at the time. It was the start of a great collaboration between him and Anderson. Oh and Bill Murray is in too. This has classic written all over it.

Joel and Ethan Coen are the masters of ambiguous and "non-pleasing endings to the mass audience". I could tell you some stories.

Short Cuts
From a personal stand point, I like Magnolia more. However, Altman was a genius and I've come to the conclusion that P.T. Anderson must be some sort of son of Altman and once he died, his brain lived on in Anderson. It's the only possible explanation.

P. T. Anderson is great even in his early days. The story is simple, but the powerful portrayals of the characters is stuff only masters could make work on screen. And Sam Jackson is off-the-wall crazy and amazing, as always.
