Muriel's Wedding (1995,  R)
Muriel's Wedding
Will sit comfortably among the list of Australian Classics. Well paced black comedy wins here with Toni Collette in the lead role as the marriage obsessed Muriel. Great support roles including Bill Hunter and Matt Day.
2
Gettin' Square (2003,  Unrated)
Gettin' Square
Another Aussie classic....David Wenham plays his dumbed down character to the hilt. Sam Worthington is perfect in his "crim going straight" role. Watch this for some great fun, and some classic one liners.
3
Two Hands (1999,  R)
Two Hands
One of Heath's earlier movies before he hit the big time, this is a corker. Love this from start to finish. The comedy of errors build up until the funny, and exciting end. The other leads are all brilliant, including Bryan Brown, and David Field. A great start to Ledger's career in movies.
4
Ned Kelly (2004,  R)
Ned Kelly
Competent enough telling of the story of Ned Kelly, one of Australia's folk legends. Heath Ledger and Orlando Bloom both are excellent.
5
Lantana (2001,  R)
Lantana
Wonderful Aussie flick, very gritty and dark, with many layers. A really tight-knit ensemble cast work well together to bring this thriller/drama to life. It may seem disjointed, but it all ties together at the end. Credit to LaPaglia and Rush and the rest of the cast for a brilliant piece of cinema.
6
The Castle (1999,  R)
The Castle
This movie will forever live in the Aussie hearts, as it reflects our way of thinking, and our laid back, sense of humour. Every actor play their part well, and the whole movie is just a great laugh from start to finish.
7
Thunderstruck (2004,  Unrated)
Thunderstruck
I'm not a big ACDC fan, but having grown up with their music, I can understand the story that drives this movie - a group of friends' love of their favourite band, and fulfilling the wishes of their departed friend. Touching and funny, with great use of ACDC songs...I loved this!!!
8
Bootmen (2000,  R)
Bootmen
The semi autobiographical story of how Dein Perry started up his Tap Dog shows. The dancing scenes are electric, and the action never stops from start to finish. Lead man Adam Garcia is breathtaking. If you have ever seen the Tap Dog stage show, you will appreciate this movie. Top stuff.

Mr. Reliable (My Entire Life) (1996,  R)
Mr. Reliable (My Entire Life)
Colin Friels stars in this laid back Aussie biocom, based on a real life episode. A knock about ex crim is mistakenly taken for holding a siege, and mayhem ensues. Typically Australian in its' humour and outlook, this is a good fun flick, made enjoyable by the likeable leads.
10
The Sum of Us (1995,  R)
The Sum of Us
This came out in the same era as Priscilla and Muriel's Wedding, and added to the already bulging credentials that Australia was building for making great movies. Crowe seems quite comfortable playing a gay character, though he isnt your stereotypical gay man. This is a touching story made even more palatable by the charasmatic leads. This was an early launch of Crowe's film career in Australia.
11
Looking for Alibrandi (2000,  Unrated)
Looking for Alibrandi
Great show, with an allstar Aussie cast. An emotional rollercoaster for the central character as her life takes some interesting turns around her.
12
Soft Fruit (1999,  R)
Soft Fruit
Emotionally charged, this quiet Aussie film is a charm to watch.Four siblings return to the family home to nurse their sick mother, and alliances are reformed and broken in this trying time. Great performance from Jeanie Drynan as the mother, and Russel Dykstra as the ex con.
13
Swimming Upstream (2004,  PG-13)
Swimming Upstream
Absolutely one of the best movies of the time. Based on the true story of Tony Fingleton, an olympic champion swimmer, this tells of the struggles he had to overcome to achieve his success. Jesse Spencer and Tim Draxl both excell in their respective roles, and Geoffrey Rush makes his presence felt as the drunken over bearing father, as does Judy Davis as the quiet but brave mother.
14
Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975,  PG)
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Chilling Aussie classic. That pan pipe theme, and "MIRAAANDAAAA""". The story has almost become part of Australian legend, even though it is fiction. Perfect.
15
Malcolm (1986,  PG-13)
Malcolm
Add to the "Quirky" pile....we Aussies like making these down to earth quirky flicks. This is a real charmer, with Colin Friels playing the quiet, unassuming, mentally handicapped Malcolm of the title. All the cute gadgets which appeared, the best being the quarter sized tram!!!! One of the best.

E morì con un felafel in mano (He Died With A Felafel In His Hand) (2001,  R)
E morì con un felafel in mano (He Died With A Felafel In His Hand)
A typical quirky Aussie movie, this a humourous and somewhat twisted look at life Australia's big city. Each house that the main character boards in seems to reflect the atmosphere/attitude of the city it is set in. Watch the movie through, and the title is explained... Noah Taylor is perfect for the role, and some of Australia's upcoming names appear here. Good fun.

Introducing the Dwights (Clubland) (2007,  R)
Introducing the Dwights (Clubland)
Lovely aussie flick, dealing with the strength family has a hold on people. Brenda Blethyn is riot as the mother who has to deal with bringing up 2 boys on her own, and holding down a day job and a nightclub comedienne as well. Khan Chittenden holds out well as the son who has to decide between his mother and his new-found girlfriend. The movie bumps up the emotional factor bit by bit until the emotional and happy ending. Great stuff

The Black Balloon (2008,  PG-13)
The Black Balloon
Very endearing and emotional drama about a family dealing with an Autistic son/brother. Toni Collette once again shines...this is a great flick. The two young male leads both do a very good job of their roles. I felt the highs and lows with these characters....I was taken to the right places!!
