Requiem for a Dream (2000, R)
One of the most interesting, grotesque, vivid, original films I have yet to see. This movie is, from the beginning, an obscure and fanstastic piece of American story telling. It grips you hard and doesnt let go. Wonderfully depressing and beautifully shot, I reccomend this one to anyone looking for a heartfelt drama. |

Hard Candy (2006, R)
This is one of the most intense thrillers I have ever seen. It makes you cringe, but at the same time you don't want to look away. The acting is astonishing, and though the heroin is still a little brutal, she can be thought out to be an "anti-hero". It's everything I like to see in a thriller. From the beginning you are thrown wide from your seat at the inconcievable and confusing twist in the story. Very well directed and shot in a small, almost cramping setting. But the setting alone makes the movie irresistable. |

Casualties of War (1989, R)
This film makes me cry and I love films that strike a nerve. It demonstrates the absolute horrible acts of humanity that are summoned during the epiuc battles of war. Sean Penn and Michael J. Fox are extremley astonishing in this. I love this film very much and I continue to watch it. Like "We Were Soldiers", it brings me down to reality when I'm having trouble. Perfect example of a film Mr. DePalma. |
