Halloween (1978,  R)
Halloween
Others may have come before it, (i.e. Twitch of the Death Nerve; Black Christmas) but no one ever did it as good as John Carpenter with this still effective slasher that begat more ripoffs than any other film.
2
Halloween II (1981,  R)
Halloween II
Nowhere as good as it predecessor but it's still a solid sequel adding a few surprises to the backstory. A few good scares, memorable kills and Carpenter's synthesised score make it a favorite for me.
3
Halloween III - Season of the Witch (1982,  R)
Halloween III - Season of the Witch
Yes it has nothing to with Micheal (The story in a nutshell: Akkad, Carpenter and Hill wanted to continue making Halloween-themed films and after Micheal's demise in part II naturally they would move on to a different Halloween tale. Audiences did not agree however.) but I still really enjoy this apocalyptic, genuinely creepy tale of Halloween terrorism.
4
Halloween H2O (1998,  R)
Halloween H2O
Surprisingly entertaining and well done sequel wisely ignores all previous films except for the first and second. Lots of wink, winks intended for the trueblooded horror buffs. This film brought the series way out of the gutter. Unfortunatly the next one would not only put it back down but sink it even further.
5
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988,  R)
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers
Well-intended but ultimately unnesessary sequel finds Micheal in a coma and severely burned after the explosion in part II. He comes back and blah, blah, blah.

Halloween (2007,  R)
Halloween
Since I am torn two ways Im gonna split my review in two. First, THE NEGATIVE:
The pacing is uneven, there's several annoying plot holes, for a slasher it runs 20 minutes too long, while I enjoy a director using a few of their favorite actors in multiple films, Zombie simply went overboard; I felt like I was watching 'The Devil's Rejects' in an alternate universe. The so-called climax is so drawn out it becomes boring and the ending is too abrupt. This is easily Zombie's weakest film.
Now, THE POSITIVE:
Zombie does a fantastic job of paying homage to Carpenter's original including locations, music beats and dialogue lifted straight from the original screenplay; Sherri Moon proves once and for all she can act and does it well; Malcolm McDowell OWNS as Loomis. Those who wish to do a remake should learn from Zombie, make it your own. Don't bother if it's nothing more than a clone like The Omen or The Fog. Use the basic premise and characters and create a NEW film that would actually be surprising and worthwhile.

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989,  R)
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers
Very different than anything that came before. Had potential by setting up questions like, who is this 'Boots', what is the mark that appeared on walls and arms and it had a really great, cliffhanger ending. Unfortunatly, they screwed the pooch with part 6.
8
Halloween - The Curse of Michael Myers (Halloween 6) (1998,  R)
Halloween - The Curse of Michael Myers (Halloween 6)
Ugh. Awful, suspense-less, convoluted, uninvolving mess of a sequel. Ruined everything that part 5 had set up. The Producer's Cut is slightly better (loved the ending) but not by much.
9
Halloween - Resurrection (2002,  R)
Halloween - Resurrection
Busta Rhymes? Tyra Banks? And shame on you Jamie Lee, Laurie's character should never had appeared in this turgid flop. Once again, the Akkads prove that they have no idea what they're doing.

Onceagain I have to agree...but when I recomended Zombies Halloween,I took a lot of crap,ok I 'm not overly familiar with Zombie's other films so I can't really compare if it's stronger or weaker then his past films,& maybe he could've shortened it a bit,he already made clear Michael was Psycho so why spend so much time in the mental Hospital,But I agree 100% why mke A film if you're just gonna redo the same old thing Kudo's to Zombie
