Horror films are movies that strive to elicit fright, fear, terror, or horror from viewers. In horror film plots, evil forces, events, or characters, sometimes of supernatural origin, intrude into the everyday world. Horror movies usually include a central villain. Early horror films often drew inspiration from characters and stories from classic literature, such as Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Wolf Man, Phantom of the Opera and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Later horror films, in contrast, often drew inspiration from the insecurities of life after World War II, giving rise to the three distinct, but related, sub-genres: the horror-of-personality film, the horror-of-Armageddon film, and the horror-of-the-demonic film. The last sub-genre may be seen as a modernized transition from the earliest horror films, expanding on their emphasis on supernatural agents that bring horror to the world.

The Shining is an absolute masterpiece from Stanley Kubrick. This is the phenomenon of horror films. I loved pretty much everything about this film. The Shining is a scary, haunting and psychological film that makes me feel really good which is very rare of a horror film. That is one of the main reasons why The Shining is the greatest horror film of all time. It is like a fantasy film when you look at it in a deeper way because of the visions within Jack's mind and Danny's as well. It was scary but not scary enough for it to freak me out. It wasn't so much the characters but it was the music that did it for me. It is scary because it is a massive hotel which is beautiful, clean and peaceful. What I find really twisted about this is that its a nice hotel in the countryside but unfortunately it is possessed and the Torrance family are the unlucky ones. They are torn apart by the hotel through Jack. This teaches about a lot of things in life particularly wherever you are it is never 100% certain that you are safe. It was a very clever horror film not just because it is a piece of work from the late Stanley Kubrick, not just because it stars Jack Nicholson and that it's a novel from my favourite novelist Stephen King but because of the cinematic qualities it has and how well it was filmed.
Jack Nicholson delivers one of the most terrifying performances I've ever seen. Jack has always been one of those actors who plays really entertaining characters both heroes and villains. When he is Jack Torrance he shows how scary he really can be. I get an impression that people underestimated Nicholson as a villain before The Shining. I think Jack's performance leads to his role as the Joker in Tim Burton's Batman because of the real psychological side of seeing Nicholson as a complete psycho. I really liked Jack's determination to this film because he made the acting decent to watch especially because Shelley Duvall was pretty bad as Wendy Torrance. There are quite a few reasons for this. I don't think she took Wendy's character which is what should be done in a film particularly from a director like Stanley Kubrick I also realise that Wendy is an innocent woman who's husband is going mad and her son is wrapped up in his own world as well, so she is suffering from this but what annoyed me about Shelley was that she always pulled the same face when upset, she was constantly wailing and wasn't even crying. I also think that she didn't quite say her words in a correct way of professional acting. Even director Kubrick said that her performance was dreadful. I saw this on a documentary called "Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures " on Kubrick's work. He stated to Shelley Duvall during filming of The Shining: "You've got to sound serious, Shelley, or else you re just wasting everyone's f***ing time". Kubrick was right about that though. But I will Shelley credit for how scary she looks when freaked out so that's where her acting was decent. I liked Danny Lloyd as Danny Torrance as well. Because of him being a child star in a horror film, I find it a close similarity to Linda Blair as possessed girl in The Exorcist.
I cannot believe that Kubrick earned a Razzie nomination as Worst Director. I think he directed it pretty well with camera angles especially the "Here's Johnny!" scene. He just did what he does best and that is that he directs his films in his own way. Directs them very similarly as zooming out/in camera angles. He directed Jack Nicholson's actions well but I admit he didn't do very well with Shelley Duvall's which could have been improved. I have always admired King's work but I think that this film is the closest film to its book. The script was half original-half adapted because most horrors are original but The Shining is like an epic horror film which makes it the first and only of that kind. Epics are films that are written into adapted scripts.
The Shining is a haunting and epic masterpiece. It is one of Jack Nicholsons best and one of Kubricks best as well. It is one of the most iconic horrors of all time if not the most iconic. I think that this film is almost perfect (apart from Shelley Duvall) which is why The Shining is the greatest horror film of all time.
"Do you know what she did, your cunting daughter?"
Director: William Friedkin Starring: Ellen Burstyn, Max Von Sydow, Linda Blair, Lee J. Cobb Running time: 117 minutes Country: USA
The Exorcist was a major hit not just within the horror genre but also cinema itself because there has never been any terror within a film that is so believable and realistic. It is a landmark of horror/thriller films alongside others such as Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, Steven Spielberg's Jaws and Jonathan Demme's The Silence Of The Lambs. It does have some science fiction parts about it but it isn't officially a science fiction film. The film was a huge success by receiving 2 Academy Awards and other nominations including Best Picture, Best Leading Actress (Ellen Burstyn) and Best Supporting Actress (Linda Blair). I could easily feel the terror of the characters especially Regan. It is a very special horror film because even after over 25 years of when it was released, it scares now and some horror films die out but this one never will because it will give you nightmares for a long time. Personally, I think horror films that are extremely scary and more psychological are better that way because they are very effective and powerful and it shows how good it is expressing at toying with your mind. Because of how scary it was around the time it was released, it was delayed for quite a while despite the Oscars and Golden Globes it won and was nominated for.
Ellen Burstyn's performance as Chris McNeil was absolutely terrific! Ellen is the mother of young girl Regan McNeil. Her performance was often terrifying in some scenes especially when with the possessed Regan. It is a shame because Chris and Regan are innocent mother and daughter but are overcome by a demon trying to control an innocent girl. Well, Linda Blair's performance; what can I say? First of all, it is without a doubt the best performance from a child in film history! I figure that the best child performances are either actors playing cute characters or scary ones. She was the perfect choice for Regan because she can play her innocent and cute side but can play her very evil side as well even though it isn't her doing it. I was terrified by the transformation from a sweet, caring and loving girl to a girl possessed by a demon but what scared me the most was the demon voice that Linda was pulling off during Regan's possession. The make-up on Linda during those possession scenes was absolutely outstanding! Also, during her transformation before it is complete, her acting is absolutely amazing!!
William Friedkin directed this film absolutely amazingly! I don't think it could've been better directed. It wanted to express true horror that will toy with your mind in a very deep psychological way. The camera work was brilliantly handled and there were a lot of awesome eerie camera angles. The scene were Regan turns her neck around completely like an owl is the most powerful scene because it shows the ultimate power that the demon has over Regan and it is a very unusual and disturbing scene. There is a lot of swearing in this film especially said from Regan under the possession of the demon. I think it was very vulgar regarding sex and sexually violent because the possessed Regan was masturbating with a crucifix. I mean, that is very powerful and it seemed realistic watching it but was violently disturbing to watch which makes it better. This was another reason why the script in this film was so damn good as well. It was very powerful regarding how emotional it was and also how tense and horrifying it is to watch. The main keyword to describe the script is "gripping".
Overall, The Exorcist is one of the most shocking, spellbinding, heart-racing and gut-retching films that have ever been released. It is one of the best thrillers and, horrors and rightly so one of the best films of all time too!

Psycho is one of those thrillers that would be referred more as a horror but a thriller aswell. It was a horror in those 1960s days but nowadays I just refer it is a psychological thriller even though it is shit scary. This film scared the hell out of me the first time I saw it but I couldn't help but love it. That does happen to me with a lot of thrillers. I couldn't take my eyes off this film because it was so gripping and it messes with your head. When you see the first 30 minutes, it is pretty much like a normal story but when Marion takes a shower that changes. This film has two twists: shower scene and the ending. I have had nightmares in the past and sometimes still do about the events that happen. Those people who have called me a wimp because and asked why it gave me nightmares but when they watch it they will see what I mean. I think the twist at the end spoils people's first time viewing because everyone knows who the psycho is nowadays and those people hadn't seen the film before probably knew the twist.
Anthony Perkins performance as Norman Bates was outstanding. He showed Norman as a cute character with a sweet personality. He really looks like a nerdy mummy's boy by doing everything she says. He tells Marion that Mrs. Bates is a little bit mad and is very rude but Norman doesn't hate her. When Norman sort of loses his rag with Marion about Mrs. Bates we see a slightly wrong side to Norman. The big question is: Is Norman all he says he is and is Mrs. Bates all she is? Janet Leigh was absolutely phenomenal performance as Marion Crane payed off really well because she earned an Oscar nomination and she is really well remembered because of the classic shower scene. I think that scene gave her an Oscar nomination. She was the perfect actress for this film because if it wasn't for her we wouldn't have a classic scene. Her screams in the shower scene is the Jack Torrance 'Here's Johnny! ' classic moment when he breaks through the bathroom door. That is what both scenes have in common: both are set in bathrooms.
Hitchcock has created not only a one-of-a-kind thriller but one that will be remembered for the ages. He has also created his best work as well. I think Hitchcock spent 5 days doing the shower scene because he wanted it to be precise to affect the audience. Also, like when people watch it and they say 'Hey, it's that classic shower scene in that Alfred Hitchcock movie'. I think that is what Hitchcock was trying to achieve in which he did. The script was adapted but original as far as Hitchcock is concerned because all the films he did his whole life was thrillers and horrors.
The shower scene is like the opening scene of Jaws because some people have fears of showering in a hotel especially when you're alone and swimming alone far out into the sea and getting dragged down under the water. I used to fear having to swim in the sea after seeing Jaws but happens very rarely and I don't think it happens at all in a hotel.
The relationship between Norman and Marion was at the start very kind and gentleman-like of Norman to supervise Marion's needs but when they eat dinner together and talk it becomes dark times. The relationship between Norman and his mother Mrs. Bates was pure aggression and pressure from Mrs. Bates onto Norman because of Marion or any visitor of the hotel. She always pushes Norman and makes him do awkward things. She sounds like a really nasty character where it must be hard to get along with her.
Psycho is one of the most terrifying films I have ever seen my whole life. It is the greatest thriller of all time alongside Jaws, The Silence Of The Lambs, The Shining, V For Vendetta and Rear Window. Janet Leigh's performance is on my list of top Best Supporting Actress performances. It is close on my top leading male performances as well. It is my favourite and probably the most and best remembered Alfred Hitchcock film, it has one of greatest twists in cinema history and is my favourite film of 1960s.
"Life is like a movie. Only you can't pick your genre."

Starring: Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Skeet Ulrich
Running time: 106 minutes

At first, I had no interest whatsoever in seeing this film because I didn't like the look of the killer but when I saw it, I was blown away by it! Scream is a horror film that is already a classic even though it was released just over 10 years ago. It is a very suspenseful film that is very jumpy and is very terrifying to watch because of the violence within it. What I loved the most about this film is that the killer plays mind games with the audience as much as the characters within the film because it?s not why he's there, who it is but where he is because it makes you think he?s there but incase he'll catch that someone by surprise which is what he does do in the film. There are a lot of twists and turns involved within the film. I liked the involvement of scary films in this film which are inspired by the killer to do those things to his victims. The main question of the film is: whodunit?
Neve Campbell's performance as Sidney Prescott was absolutely fantastic!! Her performance was a lot like Jamie Lee Curtis's in Halloween. Sidney is a very emotional character because her mum was mysteriously raped and murdered one year before. This has ruined her childhood and made her feel a bit messed up in the head. Skeet Ulrich's performance as Billy Loomis was absolutely fantastic! His character is a very charming one that is very mysterious as well that has a lot of twists and turns. Matthew Lillard was awesome as well as Stu who is Billy's best friend. Courteney Cox's performance was awesome as well!!
Wes Craven made a big name for himself after his horror classic A Nightmare On Elm Street and his work on Scream was absolutely terrific! The opening scene within the film was very powerful and wanted the audience to experience her terror and for us to be prepared of what's coming up in the film. I found the filming of that scene very similar to the 'Here's Johnny!' scene in Stanley Kubrick?s The Shining because of the eerie filmmaking and the music too.
Overall, Scream is one of the best horror films of all time that will stick in your mind for a very long time because it is that suspenseful and it does toy with your mind very easily! Highly recommended!!

Holy shit! What an absolutely amazing suspensful, non-stop, scary thrill ride this was! At first I didn't really want to watch Halloween because I am not a big horror fan but after hearing that Jamie Lee Curtis was in it and also a few people have recommended it to me, I decided to see what it was like. I wasn't surprised that it was good because I think that's what most horror films are like. This film really scared me but that is what I loved about this one! Also, what I love the most about horror films is that they never stop. Halloween is one of the early horror films that received a lot of glory and credit. This is no The Exorcist or The Shining but it is still a classic horror film nevertheless. Halloween is the first of a series of horror films that go worst and worst as they go on. I haven't seen all of them but after seeing what most horror franchises are like; for example, the Saw franchise. For these reasons, I am NOT going to watch anymore of the Halloween films (same with the Saw films.
Jamie Lee Curtis made a very famous debut in almost her very first feature film. This is probably the one film that she is most remembered for but I do still love her performances in True Lies and especially the comedy of all time A Fish Called Wanda. Her performance as Laurie Strode was really awesome! She gets herself into a really awkward and very hard situation on Halloween night because she has to babysit Tommy Doyle. The problem that they have is there is serial killer Michael Myers on the loose who is going around killing people. At the beginning of the film we witness Myers as a 6-year-old murder his 15-year-old sister with a kitchen knife. After seeing this moment, it is so gripping you feels like you're in the situation with Laurie especially when Myers starts to stalk her. When you see Michael Myers in a mask, I sort of recall him as an original villain compared to Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre films.
The directing was absolutely awesome! This wouldn't have been good for a director like Stanley Kubrick to direct but it would have been good for someone like M. Night Shyamalan. However, if he directed it I don't think it would have been half as good as it really was. John Carpenter is a genius at directing this masterpiece! This film was perfectly written because I think it wanted the audience to feel chills down their back or for them to keep their eyes open through the film without falling asleep which both things did happen to me when I was watching this film.
Halloween is one of my favourite horror films of all time! It doesn't quite beat The Shining, Saw or 28 Days Later. This is probably the classic horror franchise alongside Nightmare On Elm Street but there is absolutely no chance that I'm going to be watching that! Halloween is a horrific, terrifying, tense, scary, non-stop thrill ride that thrilled me from start to finish as it should thrill everybody who watches this film!
Director: Sam Raimi
Starring: Alison Lohman, Justin Long, Lorna Raver, Dileep Rao
Running time: 99 minutes
Country: USA
I was dead excited to see this film after I heard and read the very high reception it received from critics and fans from all around the world. I am not usually a big fan of horror films and I usually don't get excited about watching one but this one was very special. When I watched the trailer of it on youtube, it seemed like one of those films that is a bit creepy but will make you jump. That is the main reason why I wanted to see this film a lot. When I saw Drag Me To Hell, I absolutely loved it!! It is a very unusual film to watch because of the way it is filmed and the plot itself but then again, that's horror films for you. Even in moments where there's no suspenseful moments, you can't help but feel it. Drag Me To Hell blew me away at the start and at the end with a very powerful introduction and very powerful conclusion. I found it scary to watch but I think it is more of a jumpy film. It is a very violent film. There were moments of horrifying violence but there was also violence you could just slightly chuckle at even when you find it disgusting at the same time.
Alison Lohman was absolutely outstanding as Christine Brown! Ellen Page was originally supposed to be playing her but changed to Alison Lohman instead. I mean, I would've been happy whoever was playing Christine. What I think was really amazing about Lohman's performance was how innocent she made Christine. Lohman is a very cute woman and that was perfect for the character. The innocent Christine under the dominance of the deranged and hideously ugly Mrs. Ganush is absolutely terrifying yet extremely powerful to see. That is the reason why I felt sorry for Christine. She was only doing her job. There were a few shots in the film that are rather well known and famous nowadays. Justin Long's performance was lame but he wasn't a very powerful character anyway so I wasn't that bothered about that. Lorna Raver's performance as Mrs. Ganush was absolutely amazing! She is a very scary, dangerous and deranged psycho who is like the female Satan bound in human form. She delivers one of the scariest performances of all time if not the scariest one ever!
Sam Raimi's work on Drag Me To Hell is memorable. He started working on the film even before he started the Spider-Man trilogy. He is a master of horror films. He proved that with The Evil Dead trilogy as well as Drag Me To Hell. What Raimi has created is absolute genius! It was something that can terrify you and can amuse you as well. Raimi made it as true as it really seemed to be. The CGI within this film was flawless as was the make-up. This film will be in my opinion a contender for Best Make-Up, Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography. The script was absolutely amazing! What I love about Raimi, he always uses his own style of horror to create different stories and characters which is why he always succeeds.
Overall, Drag Me To Hell is an absolutely outstanding horror film that kept me gripped to it from the start until the very end. It is more of a jumpy film than scary film. One of the best of 2009 and one of the best horror films ever made!
Director: Danny Boyle Starring: Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Megan Burns, Brendan Gleeson Running time: 113 minutes Country: UK
28 Days Later is one of the rare horror films that are absolute masterpieces that are really clever and really well filmed. 28 Days Later is a film that left me freaked out but blown away by it at the same time which is something Saw did as well. 28 Days Later was a very tense post-apocalyptic film of the future in the science fiction world that almost went beyond amazing. It is a very silly story but it is a story that is so gripping and exciting that makes it so good and a great success. This film probably introduced films like Shaun Of The Dead and especially I Am Legend. They both seemed like spoofs to 28 Days Later even though Shaun Of The Dead is a spoof anyway. It is a very gory film but it isn't the most gory film that I've ever watched. I personally believe that 28 Days Later, Shaun Of The Dead and Saw are the only brilliant and smart horror films. The gore involved looked animated at the beginning which what I thought was a bit daft. It was such clever filmmaking from such an absolutely fantastic director with a taste at creating brilliant films in all genres. Danny Boyle's work in 28 Days Later probably became an inspiration to Edgar Wright for Shaun Of The Dead. 28 Days Later is a very dark story obviously but is beautifully filmed because it was all so realistic even though we all know it isn't. This is one of the most films along with the first Saw that is probably loved by all horror fans.
Cillian Murphy is starting to make a good collaboration with Danny Boyle. His collaboration with him in 28 Days Later is better than in Sunshine even though that is still a brilliant film as well. Murphy is starting to look good in science fiction films which includes Batman Begins and cameo appearance in The Dark Knight as well as 28 Days Later and Sunshine. It makes him a brilliant choice for the science fiction genre. Naomie Harris was good as Selena as well. I didn't realise that she was in this film especially after portraying Tia Dalma in Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and At World's End. It is a very tense thrill ride that you need to be in the mood to watch. It is probably a Saturday evening sort of film. I don't think it's a film that can give you nightmares but I think it will freak people out and blow people away at the same time. 28 Days Later has pretty much everything a horror film must have to succeed. It is a masterpiece of its genre and I am glad to say that. Every second of this film was very enjoyable even though there were some silent moments in the film where nobody could speak or where you couldn't hear a sound. I loved this film from start to finish! It is a very hard-hitting, scary, tense and with action-packed violence within which is something that I love in a lot of films.
28 Days Later is another great work from Danny Boyle but 28 Days Later doesn't beat Trainspotting. 28 Days Later is without a doubt one of my favourite horror films. The Shining, Saw and 28 Days Later are my ultimate horror films even though horror is my least favourite genre.

Saw truly is one of the smartest horror films ever made. One of the reasons why I loved this film was because it was really clever and it didnt screw up at all. It all adapted really well not only to see how scary it is but also to see the extremely psychological side to it to what some human beings on Earth are really like. It is a real teaser because the audience arent sure whether the victims are going to kill themeslves or each other. It shows real horror and a really gut wretching exciting story but unlike some of the horror films today they are just random horrors that arent really thought about properly. They are just randomly thought of but without thinking about a plot. But this unfortunately happens to Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV, Saw V and probably Saw VI. It is a film that I have been told is a really scary horror film but it is a horror film still but I would refer it more of a psychological thriller.
The acting was so crap it made me laugh but that wasnt really the point. It is more about the psychological horror that is used in this film rather than the characters involved. The acting didnt really need to be good in a film like this. This film as I said focused more on the story than the acting and directing involved which made this film a great success.
I thought that the direction was really good because there was a close point of view of living in hell and of the psychological side of things within the film. There were some awesome camera angles that havent really been used that often in a horror film before. The script was so spine chilling and gut wrenching that probably makes you feel a bit sick but makes you feel really good because of its clever storytelling and screenplay.
After seeing this one, I am going to see Saw II but not Saw III, Saw IV, Saw V or Saw VI at all because it will spoil my liking to Saw. I love films like this (psychological thrillers) because they are films that can stay in your mind for a long time and can be films that you would watch again but wouldnt want to watch again for a while like me. Saw is one of those films that a lot of teenagers would watch because of the gore, violence and the horror and that. That is where I find this film extremely overrated but for good reason though: entertainment. As far as I am concerned Saw is a masterpiece of horror films!!
Director: Ridley Scott

Alien is a very scary, tense and psychological masterpiece that can be watched timeless times. Alien is probably the first sci fi horror film and it is probably the most famous one. The second Alien film is another masterpiece of the genre but that one is far better. The late 1970s released two science fiction films that are landmarks of the genre: Alien and Star Wars. Alien is a film that can absolutely freak people out but can make people feel really great because some people absolutely love the tension in a film or just love scary films in general. There isn't a single doubt that Alien is a horror film but the second Alien film isn't in my opinion. That is more of a sci fi action film even though it can be tense and scary on occasions which is why I prefer Aliens to Alien. I have now decided that Alien is the most graphic film of all time as far as violence is concerned.
Sigourney Weaver is Ellen Ripley and it's as simple as that. She portrays Ripley with such seriousness that has a real taste for creating a female badass character. Weaver was better in the second film especially with her Oscar nomination for that film but she should have been nominated for one in this film. Ellen Ripley is just a normal person in this film but when it comes near the end, her life becomes really difficult and she becomes a very different person which is revealed in the next three Alien films. It is only until when she is left all alone when she goes into sort sort of coma or cybric sleep and that changes things around. The violence that happens to each of the characters is absolutely unbelievable such as alien coming out of man's stomach and a man really being an alien with alien guts, blood etc.
Ridley Scott's first feature film is an absolutely phenomenal debut. Ridley Scott has created a masterpiece already in his very early career. I'm glad that Scott didn't do the second Alien film because it probably wouldn't have been as good. I think that most people say that Aliens is better than Alien. Ridley Scott has crafted a masterpiece for all of cinema as well as of the science fiction and horror genres.
Alien is an unbelievable, outstanding, mind-blowing, heart-racing yet gut-retching masterpiece that I absolutely loved from start to finish. Aliens is better than Alien by a mile. After Alien and Aliens, the Alien franchise went downfall. The third one was could but could have been better. Fourth was good too. Regarding the ones, with Predator in are absolutely appalling. Alien is Ridley Scott's second best film after Gladiator. I love Blade Runner, Thelma And Louise and Matchstick Men as well from Ridley Scott. Alien is the first sci fi-horror film and nothing or nobody can take that away from it. Masterpiece!
Director: M. Night Shyamalan Starring: Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment, Toni Collette, Olivia Williams Running time: 107 minutes Country: USA
Wow!! What an absolutely outstanding film The Sixth Sense really is. It is a very dark, tense and psychological but not scary masterpiece that blew me away more second time round than first time. I saw this film for the first time in January 2008 and I hadn't seen it since then. It is a film that I am really fond of because it is one of those films that don?t try too hard to be a scary film that people would freak out by and also it didn't try too hard to impress the suspense of the film. It was a very suspensful film anyway because of the very depressing, psychological plot. The Sixth Sense is a film that can sort of play with your mind because it shows how a person can start to lose their mind especially when it is almost impossible to get out of. This film has one of the most powerful endings as well as one of the best twists in cinema history. The twist in this film is the whole film's best quality. It is a haunting film but it isn't a horror film. It's like The Silence Of The Lambs: a psychological thriller rather than a horror.
Bruce Willis' performance as Dr. Malcolm Crowe was a fantastic one. He sort of surprised me in a way because Bruce stars in action/crime films but he was actually fantastic in this film. Malcolm Crowe is a prominent child psychologist but when he returns home one night with his wife and is shot by an former patient of his who broke into the house. It suddenly changes to Crowe becoming close to Cole but all doesn't go to plan and all isn't as it seems. Haley Joel Osment delivers the single most amazing child performance of all time. Most child performances are fantastic but nothing like Osment as Cole Sear. Cole is a 9-year-old young boy who has a lot of deep psychological problems. Osment was the perfect choice because he is a scary lad when he goes a bit mad but he is awesome at playing that innocent young lad like they're possessing over him. Haley cried a lot in this film but even in moments of the film especially the famous "I see dead people" scene when tears weren't coming down his eyes but could see the tears in them. I could see the fright in his eyes which is why Osment's performance is one of the best acting roles of all time. Toni Collette's performance as Lynn Sear was amazing too but doesn't beat Bruce or Haley in this masterpiece. Lynn is worried for her son because of his amazingly bizarre behaviour with those around him and towards her too.
M. Night Shyamalan has created a masterpiece of thrillers. This was one of his very early films in his career and it is his breakthrough film and his most famous film and probably his best ever too because of what I've heard about the others he has done are said to be really crap. M. Night Shyamalan probably didn't expect the critical reaction that the film got including six Oscar nominations: Best Picture 1999, Best Supporting Actor (Haley Joel Osment), Best Supporting Actress (Toni Collette), Best Director, Best Editing and Best Original Screenplay. The script was almost perfect because it was mixed with horror and with tension but it's a funny feeling because I didn't find this film scary. As I said, it's more of a psychological thriller.
The Sixth Sense and The Silence Of The Lambs and that is a fact. The Sixth Sense is a haunting thriller that I absolutely loved from start to finish and was blown away by it by more viewings of the film. The Sixth Sense is another reason why 1999 is my favourite year in film. I now have seven 5-star 1999 films. Haley Joel Osment's performance is the best child performance of all time and it totally deserves to be. The Sixth Sense is a very disturbing psychological thriller that is an absolute masterpiece and is one of its kind and can hardly be compared to anything else.

Ladies and gentlemen, look at Kong, the Eighth Wonder of the World."

There is no denying that this is a classic but there are a few things that I think are a bit cheesy about this film compared to the films nowadays. Obviously I appreciate that there wasn't any kind of special effects/make-up technology in 1933 but I think the problem is that I don't think that some people will greatly appreciate it because it's in an older generation and the effects are pretty crap. To be fair they are nowadays but were awesome in those days. I think is the reason why I prefer the remake. It is still a very enjoyable film nevertheless. It was a very dark adaptation of King Kong even though it was the first.
I think the acting was good from Robert Armstrong as Carl Denham and Bruce Cabot as John Driscoll but Fay Wray really annoyed me as Ann because it is quite typical in those days to behave in a very posh manner which is really irritating to me. When she was screaming a lot in the film, her mouth was open but I don't think the screams came out of her mouth. It was like it came out of a speaker or something. I can notice this because the scream was exactly the same with the same sound and the same amount of time the scream lasted. One thing that this King Kong adaptation doesn't have but the Peter Jackson remake does have and that is emotional drama. The original Kong needs a heart and a soul but I don't think he had that very much at all. I obviously appreciate that it's a 1930s film and must have been very hard to make at that time but they should have at least made it emotional. It was more of a horror film which did sort of annoy me. I think it was the point that it was meant to be a horror film but I would have prefered if it wasn't a horror film.
King Kong was well directed obviously but personally I don't think the director made it a very believable or realistic film to watch because of the lack of drama within it. I think I have a few negative points about this film because I saw the Peter Jackson adaptation before I saw this one.
The original King Kong isn't as good as its remake but it is still a very good film nevertheless. As I said the Kong character lacked a soul and emotional drama but apart from that King Kong is a really fun, intense and brilliantly filmed (for those days) thrill ride that I did enjoy!
"Did I hear that code red or am I losing my shit?"
Director: Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Starring: Robert Carlyle, Catherine McCormack, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner Running time: 99 minutes Country: UK/Spain
What a brilliant sequel! 28 Weeks Later has pretty much the same as 28 Days Later apart from more action but not as exciting dialogue. 28 Weeks Later is an intense film to watch but it isn't better than the first one. What 28 Weeks Later has more than it's previous film is that there is more action involved but there is a lot more gruesome and gory violence involved. It is one of the very few horror films that I really enjoyed just like 28 Days Later. It is a very dark story of seeing Britain like it is. I Am Legend is a rip-off of this one more than the previous film.
Robert Carlyle was good as Don. Don is a married man who has 2 children. He lives in a cottage with his wife Alice and a few other survivors. Once they're ambushed, there becomes a very terrifying moment for Don when he witnesses his wife being trapped in the house with the Infected inside as well. He reunites with his son and daughter and he has to tell them about what happened to their mum. When you see Britain all wiped out of the Infected, it isn't all as it seems and there is a surprise coming your way that will rock your world.
I am actually glad that Danny Boyle didn't direct this one because I don't think he would have made it as good but then again when hasn't Danny Boyle not made a good film. He did produce it though and I am glad that he only did that. After hearing that he might do 28 Months Later, I hope that one won't be bad especially after Boyle's giant success Slumdog Millionaire.
28 Weeks Later is a fantastic sequel but it isn't as good as 28 Days Later. It is one of the best horror films of 2007. It is one of the best sequels of all time too. I was predicting that it would be like how the Saw sequel turned out to be but I was wrong and it turned out to be a fantastic film. Highly recommended just like 28 Days Later.
"Who died and made you fucking king of the zombies?"
Director: Edgar Wright
Starring: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Kate Ashfield, Lucy Davis
Running time: 99 minutes
Country: UK, France
This film really scared me because not so much of the zombies but because of the gore. The most goriest scene in this film was definitely when David was pulled back by the zombies and they ripped open his stomach and ate all his guys and stuff so he died. That made me cringe. That is the one scene that I just cannot watch at all. It makes me feel sick. Despite that, this film really made me laugh an awful lot because of Shauns mistakes and because of what Ed says. Both Nick Frost and Simon Pegg make me laugh a lot and I really want them to make another project.
Simon Pegg delivers an awesome performance as Nicholas Angel because Simon acts really serious and he acts bloody hilarious because of his mistakes he makes. He acts like a complete loser. Nick Frost delivers the funniest performance of the film and delivers a performance that is very similar to Nicks character in Hot Fuzz. The reason for that is because Ed was a swearing and arrogant bastard just like Danny is. Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg write this film ever so well that it manages to avoid disaster and a terrible film. The title is like a real spoof of Dawn Of The Dead.
Edgar Wright directs this film really well and makes the camera angles both hilarious and scary at the same time. This became a typical Edgar Wright film mostly because of the hilarious characters and the gore and violence too which is also used a lot in Hot Fuzz.
This film made me get into horror-comedies and also a bit of a taste into horrors. The one horror film that made me get into horror films is The Shining. Shaun Of The Dead is one of the funniest British films ever made and also one of the best British films ever made.
