The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007,  R)
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford 4.5 Stars
Slow paced but great performances make this a superb biopic to watch.
Casey Affleck was truly captivating in his role as Robert Ford, the scenes with Brad Pitt and himself really draw you into the movie.

American Gangster (2007,  R)
American Gangster 4.0 Stars
Based on a true story, this is a well told crime story with great performances from Denzel Washington & Russel Crowe.
It isn't your average gangster movie - this one is more about the story than the usual violence you see (& it's a long story at that).
I found the movie to be a bit of a slow burner but it's well worth seeing.

Freedom Writers (2007,  PG-13)
Freedom Writers 4.0 Stars
An inspiring story based on true events, Hilary Swank was ideal for this role as a teacher trying to motivate her troubled students.
(if you liked the Michelle Pfeiffer movie 'Dangerous Minds' you'd enjoy this!)
On the whole a very good movie.

A disturbing yet sad biopic.
You don't expect to sympathize in some ways with a serial killer, but I suppose thats a credit to the top class performance by Charlize Theron.Christina Ricci was great in this too.

Engrossing drama with a young Kate Winslet. Shows the disturbing relationship between the two lead characters as young friends who develop an obsessive friendship which leads to murder.
Contains some great fantasy scenes too. I've seen this a few times now.. it's well worth a look!

Brilliant gangster movie. The cast is amazing, I thought it was strange seeing De Niro take a back seat in role but all the performances - Liotta & Pesci especially - were great.

Miss Potter (2007,  PG)
Miss Potter 3.5 Stars
Bittersweet story based on the life of author Beatrix Potter.
The animations were an enjoyable touch to the film & gave you a feel of how the author may have captured them in her own mind. There's some lovely scenery in the movie too.
Personal downside for me on this film.. I couldn't help but see 'Bridget Jones' in costume rather than imagining it to be a characterisation of Beatrix Potter.
