Ride the High Country (1962,  Unrated)
Ride the High Country
Beautiful wewstern from Peckinpah. Ride the High Country touches on alot of themes Peckinpah would later refine in The Wild Bunch and others. But he does it best in The Wild Bunch. Thats not to say Ride the High Country isnt without merit. Its a damn good western and one of the best for its time. Joel McCrea and Randolph Scott kick major acting ass here. Iam not that found of Mariette Hartley, but she was pleasent enough in this. Highly recommended to all Packinpah fans.

Major Dundee (1965,  PG-13)
4
The Wild Bunch (1969,  R)
The Wild Bunch
The greatest western ever made. And the ultimate "mans" film. Peckinpah created a film were theres no hope for the outlaw....so why not go out in a hail of bullets!
5
The Ballad of Cable Hogue (1970,  Unrated)
The Ballad of Cable Hogue
Sam Peckinpah has never made a more gentler film than The Ballad Of Cable Hogue. This was his reply to critics who thought he was nothing more than a blood and guts director. This is Peckinpah defying expectations and making a relativly non violent western. Cable Hogue is a comedy western and theres even a musical number!! This is the film he immediatly followed The Wild Bunch with. But its still trademark Peckinpah. He films the west better than anybody because he was a product of the west. The way he frames the landscape in the background, he makes it a central character.
Jason Robard is strong in the lead as the title character. And David Warner is freakin halarious as the preacher who uses gods sermons to get a titty feel.

Straw Dogs (1971,  R)
Straw Dogs
Hoffman and George play a couple who move to a small English village were George grew up. Fantastic film. Hoffmans the outsider and his marriage is falling apart. Awsome climax to an alreadty awsome film. In the running for my fav. Peckinpah film.

Junior Bonner (1972,  PG)
Junior Bonner
Ive seriously tried my ass of to get in to this..but i cant. Its boring as hell and puts me to sleep evrytime. I LOVE Peckinpah, but what the hell was he thinking about with this. Who the hell finds Rodeo films entertaining. And slo-mo bulldozers!? He mustve been really letting the booze and drugs take control around this time.

The Getaway (1972,  PG)
The Getaway
stylish film from Peckinpah. McQueen is a badass!
9
Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973,  R)
Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid
'88 Turner version:
Pat Garret and Billy the Kid ranks up there with the best of Peckinpahs filmography. Its got its flaws, but it has its impact also. Every time i see a Peckinpah film i hadnt seen before, iam amazed at how incredible his works can be. Believe me hes not perfect...see Convoy for that side of Sam. But fuck..i kept thinking how goddamn incredible the film looks. This may be his most "beautiful film" is his catalogue. Theres a powerfull scene involving Slim Pickens and his wife by a pond i cant shake. Its fucking incredible.
James Coburn owns this film. And Kristofferson is the best Billy the Kid ive seen yet. Thankfully Dylan doesnt have alot of dialogue. Just from the couple of lines he has...acting isnt his Forte' But he does good with expressions. And to my suprise Harry Dean Stantons got a decent role in it. I love that guy.

Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974,  R)
Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia
Warren Oats takes the front in Peckinpahs modern day western. Possibly my fav. Peckinpah film.
11
The Killer Elite (1975,  PG)
12
Cross of Iron (1977,  R)
Cross of Iron
James Coburn stars in this very claustrophobic WW2 film from Peckinpah. Underrated. Great performances.
13
Convoy (1978,  PG)
Convoy
Made during the peak of Peckinpahs alcohal and drug abuse, Convoy feels like it was made during that time. Its a cash in on the Smokey and The Bandit craze and the plot is pretty thin. James Coburn is purported to of directed quite a bit of the film too.
Its not a total shit fest its just got a hell of alot of plot holes. But what do you expect from a film based on a popular song...that feels like it was based on a popular song!?
14
The Osterman Weekend (1983,  R)
The Osterman Weekend
one of Pekinpahs weaker films. But still its Peckinpah.
