Michael Radford must be applauded for his adaption and recreation of 1984 and fitting it into a segment of a little short of 2 hours. The backdrops, cinematography and production value gave the visual manifestation of Orwell's dystopia. John Hurt's acting of Smith is fantastic and one that is under rated. His performance almost summed up my interpretation of Smith.

The problem with 1984 is that it is hard to coney and adapt into film. It is blatant to me that this film requires that the viewer must read the book prior to viewing in order to pick up the terms and general background to the film (e.g. double good). As a film I found it to be somewhat lackluster to that of the power and direction that the novel entrusts into the reader.

Overall it is a good adaption of Orwell's masterpiece but falls short of being an engrossing movie due its content. Read the book
