Dead Man's Shoes
two brothers, return home, to there northerntown in england, andseethat local thugs that ran things years ago, are still around, and causing trouble, and who were also the guys who caused the younger brother a lot of pain, and torment, years earliar, so the reason for returning, to town is revenge, so throygh the course of the film, richard, the older of the 2, seeks out his justice, a great follow up from shane meadows, after, aroom for romeo brass, with a great northern setting, certasinly reminds me of get carter, in style, and with paddy constainstein, a contender for our generations bob de niro, hes superb in this, you really dont know whats going to happen, when he catches up, with his prey, as with all meadows films the acting is realistic, ad not unlike documentary style, check out his new one, this is england for more, oh and a amazing twist. check this out.

24 Hour Party People (2002,  R)
24 Hour Party People
.great film depicting the record label factory records, from the 70s-90s, and a great performance from steve coogan as tony wilson, depicting events such as the forming of new order, from the remains of joy division, and the birth of the happy mondays, it shows in great detail, why manchester is a great source for british music, and of course the mad world of tony wilson, and why he lost control of his record label, due to bands taking advantage and daft business plans, a great nostalgic look at what the uk does best, music, really good.
6

The Englishman Who Went up a Hill But Came Down A Mountain (1995,  PG)
The Englishman Who Went up a Hill But Came Down A Mountain
hugh grant stars in a charming film about a englishman who arrives in a very smal town in wales to register a mountain, but its a hill, and all the locals who are devasteted, its there local claim to fame that they have a mountain, so try there be4st to charm him into staying so they can rise the levil, so it will be officially a mountain, great look at welsh life in a small town, in the 1920s i believe, and quite funny, hugh is his bumblin self, but great watching him get into situations, and the welsh way of life, watch out for the two twins who are old men, great looking as well, with a great look for the town, a good feel good movie all round, and a hugh grant film not many people know of, it came out just after four weddings and a funeral, but did pretty much nothing, a great little welsh film
13
The Wicker Man (1973,  R)
The Wicker Man
great brit horror from the 70s, and what starts out as a cop looking for answers, turs into a great film about the ocult and things people will do because of what they believe in, a great twist as well, try to avoid the nicholas cage remake

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1999,  R)
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
a breath of fresh air when i saw this in cinema in 1998, brilliant debut from guy richie, about east end gangsters, and guys tring to make a quick buck, nick moran and jason straithern star as guys who get conned in a card game, who then go on to, take on a job, they overhere, gangsters talking about, in flat next door, and this is where irt all takes off, a great complicated plot follows, charactors intrduced, double crosses, and many deaths, a great watch, not knowing, whats going to happen, with all stories we are introduced to all tying up to the end outcome, a great charactor from vinnie jones, ex fooyballer in the u.k, who went on to many tough guy roles, jason straithern who went on to great things, and of curse guy richie, who made the wonderful snatch 2 years later, with straithern and v jones, although i really like snatch, maybe better than this, this is where he homed his skills, and the language in this film is stunning, cockney at its best, although im guessing some cockneys may disagree, great music too, a true british classic.
16
A Fish Called Wanda (1988,  R)
A Fish Called Wanda
superb, everyone is great, you got 2 pythons in palin and cleese, so the comedy is prettyspot on, and cleese had hand in writing screenplay, palin marvellous as a stuttering fool but vital to plan, and of course the lovely jamie lee curtis and kevin kline, curtis sizzes up screen and kline creates a memorable charactor as a brit bashing yank, great story and great comedy, dont call me stupid...calling you stupid would be a insult to stupid people, classic
17
Shaun of the Dead (2004,  R)
Shaun of the Dead
everyone from spaced makes a film, and keep there warm funy brit humour, a wining formula, paying homage to romero and his dead films, not taking piss out of remake of dawn of the dead, as some people i, know have pointed out, in pegg and frost a great double act, scary and funny, always a winning combination, and the level is right here, its a brilliant film anyway, but being a fan of there sitcom spaced, which also involved director edgar wright, its so mucch more entertaining, sometimes feels like a full lenth episode, keeping many elements that made that show great.

The Remains of the Day (1993,  PG)

This Is England (2007,  Unrated)
This Is England
an amazing look at childhood, in the uk, in the 80s when thatcher was ruining the country, and the war in the falklands was raging on, this sees a young kid whos dad died, in the war, coping with life, being bullied in school, he befriends a bunch of older teenagers who belong to a neo-nazi gang, here he fits right in, gets a skin head, and has a good time, but when the older, true ring leader of the gang turns up, fresh from jail, things turn up side down, and the gang splits up, superbly played by stephen grahem, the leader, is a pressure cooker waiting to explode and is only a matter of time, a superb, coming of age story, suberbly played all round, taking us to a time, we dont wana go back to, every child in the uk should se this film, parents should let them, its a great lesson to be learned. this is also a great follow up from shane meadows, after dead mans shoes, seek that film out as well, a director to watch.

Straw Dogs (1971,  R)
Straw Dogs
classic from the 70s, dustin hoffman plays an american living his life in the english countryside with his beaytyful wife, many men un the town just see her as a sex object, and wind away the day treating her like like one, one day all the guys take hoffman out for a shoot, with the intentions of rapeing his wife, while another man whos a bit slow, has intentions on her younger friend, who leads him on, all this leads to a explosive finale in the farmhouse, very controvershal this, when it came out in the u.k, all to do with the rape scene and how it was cut and portrayed, and todays standerds it does hold up, great portrayal of country life, a sort of british deliverence, showing towns frolk being not all there, hoffman portrays the american as out of touch and nerdy, all the better for second half as he lets loose, great violence, and great direction from sam peckinpah, great seeing him go from america to english countryside, but with all his usual tricks, and a great shout out to susana george, as the wife, shes terridic, sexy and tough, and great acting in peril from her, she georgous as well which helps, the charactors motivations were to move from america due to the violence, a great social comment film

Following (1999,  R)
Following
christopher nolans debut, low budget english effort, a interesting idea, a lot covered for brief running time, and a film you can watch again to get it more, not as clever as memento, but the seeds of memento were certainly practised in this debut
23
The War Zone (1999,  R)
The War Zone
superbly directed by actor tim roth, this sees a tenager, afected by abuse from her father, and how she escapes her daily troubles, the father is played by ray winestone and hes a proper bastard, a very good and important look at child abuse, in the u.k. also check out nil by mouth, directed by gary oldman, a film about abuse in marriage, again starring ray winestone, and a terrific performance from cathy burke, as the abused, check them both out, great but important watches.

A Room for Romeo Brass (2000,  R)
A Room for Romeo Brass
again, great natural acting from young kids bringing this above your typical up north kids picture, and in paddy consadine, a evil, dangerousguy, you just dont know what to expect, as he befriends the 2 kids, becoming there friend while in trouble, but his short dangerous fuse, coming full force, you laugh at his childish ways, then with a sudden turn, after pitying him, he becomes a dangorous bully, well acted all round, and again meadows showing hes one of britains very best directors
26
28 Days Later (2003,  R)

Twin Town (1997,  R)
Twin Town
people say this is the welsh trainspotting, and even though its not a patch on.trainspotting, its got a lot going for it. 2 troubled youths spend there days causing trouble, and taking drugs, stealing cars, when there father is in a work accident, and local business man wont pay compinsation, they take matters into there own hands, and with 2 local police officers on there backs, as they are in with the busineeman, things turn to crime and murder, great dialogue, and moments of madness, and a weird view of welsh life, all the observations come out, a great cast, rhys ifans is terrific in this, in a early role. and dougrey scott, as a cop on the take, great soundtrack too, and a fine adition to great british films
