Mou gaan dou (Infernal Affairs)
A film I've been meaning to see for so long and at last I have. It has to be the first film I've watched where I like both the original and the remake (The Departed) equally.

The storyline here is a truly original and clever idea, increasing in tempo as the polt unfolds.

Hable con Ella (Talk to Her) (2002,  R)
Hable con Ella (Talk to Her)
An original and unusual storyline and set of circumstances. There was one particular scene that was quite bizarre and I?m sure if you?ve seen it you will know immediately of which one I?m referring to, but the main plot is a much more serious and interesting story, which I felt made compelling viewing.

Nine Queens (Nueve reinas) (2002,  R)
Nine Queens (Nueve reinas)
I hadn?t realised the film CRIMINAL was a re-make, of course it didn?t take me long to realise that this was the original film. I usually prefer to watch the original first, but found both equally entertaining and enjoyed both portrayals of characters in each film.

Always enjoyed the ending to this one.

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (Boksuneun naui geot)
My least favourite of the Vengeance trilogy, yet still worthy of a watch. Didn?t think it quite made the standard of the other two, but was quirky in a sense and a good plot for a vengeance style film
23
Hero (2004,  PG-13)
Hero
I'm not a huge fan of wire work, so that part of the film didn't particularly impress me too much, however I thought the use of colour was very impressive and visually effective and there were also a few subtle, yet impressive special effects, especially with the water scene.

I've heard great things said about this film and I do think the swordsmanship and choreography were enjoyable, however, my preference of Martial Arts films is defintely a little more hands on, with plain raw talent, agility and fighting using the body.

Nikita (La Femme Nikita) (1990,  R)
Nikita (La Femme Nikita)
This film started out in one direction and then turned in complete other direction, which having not read the synopsis, was a pleasant surprise. This film, I really enjoyed, but can't quite put my finger on why? Perhaps it's the strong female lead, who is a match for any man and yet still has the ability of being a feminine beauty, maybe it's the double lifestyle shes lease or maybe it was the way she was desired.

The film itself (although only 1990) looks fairly dated and of course is rather far fetched, but I found it a really enjoyable watch.

Jean Reno's role was small, yet made quite an impact as the "cleaner".

¡Átame! (Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!) (1990,  NC-17)
¡Átame! (Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!)
Like many of Almodovar?s work, the beauty is always found in the most unusual circumstances. Just like Penelope Cruz, we see a very different side of Antonio Banderas than the Hollywood Actor we all know him to be.

A compelling watch with an enjoyable plot.

Cinema Paradiso (Nuovo Cinema Paradiso)
Firstly I have to say the young boy who played Salvatore has to be one of the most talented and adorable young Actors ever, he completely grips your attention. He is comical and a rebel in the making and had the film ended as Salvatore ages I would have been just as impressed with the film.

It?s always satisfying when your expectations are met and exceeded with a film, as this film no doubt does and is worthy for all it's high praise. For me, there seemed at times a reminder of ? Life is Beautiful? in the natural humour sense, which of course is absolutely a compliment.

Although the ending didn't seem to be quite as fast moving, this is a film to add to one of those 'movies you must see' lists.

Although I can partly see the appeal to this popular film, I have to admit (I know I won?t be popular for this) I found a fair bit of this film quite boring. Having heard this film, so many times talked of with high regard ? I feel I?ve missed something!
