The Secret of NIMH (1982,  G)
The Secret of NIMH
One of my favorite childhood cartoons. Great voice acting, especially by Dom DeLuise who really cracked me up. Kids still love this movie about super intelligent mice and rats who have become so humanlike, treachery and scheming become part of their natures. Tiny Heroes and villians turn the average field, rose bush, and yard into a living, breathing environment.

The mixture of intelligence and darkness make this a unique experience, especially in 1982 when it seemed Disney had a monopoly of all cartoon movies. Disney movies are mostly light and fluffy with typical endings. This cartoon has none of that.

I remember the dark themes as a youth of 7 or 8 when I first watched it. Some scenes stuck with me. Mrs. Brisby's frantic fight for freedom when trapped, her heroic efforts to save her son Timmy from sickness. Being scared of The Great Owl with his gnarled talons as he finished eating one of Mrs. Brisby's neighbors. Old Nicodemus's apperance and voice. And especially the final scene where the Rats attempt to move Mrs. Brisby's home in a rainstorm and the fight between Jenner and Justin.

Hasn't seemed to lose much for me in the past 25 years..

Race to Witch Mountain
The Rock scores again with a family movie. The kids will really like it and the action and jokes will keep the adults interested. Decent expansion/remake of the 70's Escape to Witch Mountain both of which deal with two children with special abilities trying to get home. Difficult? Sure, especially when home is another galaxy, but if you can smell what the Rock is cooking, you will like this. AnnaSophia Robb seems to be Disney's new go to girl after putting in a good effort in Bridge to Teribithia she continues here softening up the Rock's heart. Good family fun

Still think this is a decent movie. Good ol Disney provides a movie about a talking, telekinetic Cat from outerspace? Cute and kinda funny, kids should still like this movie today. I sure did when i was little.

Inkheart
yeah, it was watchable, although I found myself looking at the clock to see how much was left and thinking about what I should be doing instead of watching. Could of been a ton better and has a fantastic premise, but there were many plot holes and the director didn't expand upon the possibilities.. this is one of those movies you have to go into to just try to shut off the brain and be mildly amused. It is a fantasy show and not believable in any way so keep that in mind.

I love fantasy movies when done right, but when you have to suspend belief that every person is incompetant or an idiot....well its not for me.

Bedtime Stories (2008,  PG)
Bedtime Stories
I enjoyed this film because, like Sandler, I tend to have a 13 year old maturity. I always laugh at Adams stupid humor and he keeps it up here for a Disney audience. Kid friendly.

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies (2009,  PG-13)
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies
Pretty dang good Cartoon...maybe because it is rated PG-13. No swearing of course, but this film actually portrays death and violence. Superhero cartoon violence...and it really is only one death...and it was a robot death...wait, how the heck did it rate PG-13??? Because it portrayed political manipulation like what goes on in this country every day??? No more violence then you see on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers...Whatever....Well, it was just good. i wouldn't have any problem with my child watching this.
