Gremlins (1984,  PG)
Gremlins
billy,s father, brings home a special gift while away on business, its a mogwai. a weird furry creature, with a strict set of rules, dont get it wet, no bright light, and dont feed after midnight, so he acepts, but when he does get them wet, they multiply, and then when they get fed after midnight they turn into horrible versions of a mogwai, and eventually chaos on christmas eve, in the town is on, this film is a smart horror comedy, from joe dante, again another childhood fav, a really god black comedy, these creatures are great, really funny watching them go about there business, they just destroy stuff, just wanna kill and have fun, great sequences, the fight with the mom, the gremlins in the theatre, the toy shop, all outstanding, a great christmas movie too, certainly up there, and the lovely phoebe cates, with a great chilling speech about santa claus, oh and corey fieldman dressed as a christmas tree, classic, great effects, great dialogue, check his father with the inventions, check out sequel too, its cool, a great 80s watch, gremlins and goonies, what a double bill

Scrooged (1988,  PG-13)
Scrooged
a update of a a chtistmas carol which transports to 80s newyork and a exec at a tv studio, brilliantly played by bill murrey, faithfully re told, so all the ghosts are present and giving it a modern slant, his studio are even making scrooge as one of there shows, this is definatly in my top 10 christmas movies, as ot perfectly captures the spirit of christmas, and as we see in murreys charactor how not to, great christmas themes, a great look, capturing that time of year, but most inportantly another great show from murrey, hes great in these roles, and unlike a lot of christmas movies, it dosent go overboard at the end with sentimentality, only his transformation, which actually is the point in this, and not just the sake of it

The Ref
hostile hostages in U.K
dennis leary does great as a criminal, who gets in a bind and ends up taking hostage kevin spacey and judy davies hostage, in there suburbun house, but heres wher it gets interesting, the couple really hate each other, and let the sparks fly, very interesting and funny to watch a little known leary(he was more known for stand up and his little mtv advert rants at time, and of course spacey, who like leary hadent hit big yet, seven usual suspects and swimming with sharks had yet to open, a great script, showing learys madness with situation and of course spacey and davies spitting out great rants about married life, and general dislike for one another, a great christmas setting too, and watching leary take over as, pretending to be someone else is classic, yes it becomes predictable especially at end, but a good watch
