No Country for Old Men (2007, R)
The most layered, thought-provoking, and chilling film in recent time, NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN is the Coen Brothers' best work to date and easily the best film of the year... if not the decade. The film, though simplistic on it's surface, is open to so many interpretations; it's quite daunting. I honestly haven't thought this much about a film since my initial veiwings of Once Upon a Time in America, Mulholland Drive, and Donnie Darko. An Instant classic (and I rarely...RARELY use that term), NO COUNTRY is bound to garner a bounty of major award nominations in most categories, and practically garaunteed wins for Javier Bardem. |
