Groundhog Day (1993,  PG)
Groundhog Day
masterpiece of simplicity

you may initially underestimate the film's many virtues and only came to truly appreciate it through repeated viewings...

Tropic Thunder (2008,  R)
Tropic Thunder
Robert D. Jr, Stiller and Cruise...just a perfect combination
4
Quick Change (1990,  R)
Quick Change
At under 90 minutes, Quick Change moves at an economical clip, giving us just enough entertainment without overstaying its welcome. Good performances all around, with another hilarious smart-ass character for Bill Murray (who would also co-direct) to play. It's probably the best Bill Murray film you've never heard of, so if you're a fan, it's well worth your time.
5
Anchorman - The Legend Of Ron Burgundy (2004,  PG-13)
Anchorman - The Legend Of Ron Burgundy
The film is utterly absurd, and that's its charm. It doesn't wimp out and try to get serious or normal. From beginning to end, it's a train of absurdity that threatens to derail for the entire running time.
6
Starsky & Hutch (2004,  PG-13)
Starsky & Hutch

7
Blankman (1994,  PG-13)
Blankman

Burn After Reading (2008,  R)
Burn After Reading
Photobucket
Individually, every actor involved gets a fantastic, quirky, outright weird persona to play around with. Pitt and Clooney especially seem to be having a ball with their parts; Pitt a dimwitted idiot, Clooney a fetishistic sex addict who seems to be held together primarily by an assortment of amusing nervous tics and the overwhelming need to go for a quick run. Their scenes are fantastically entertaining, sometimes even outright funny. Put together though, it never adds up to anything. There's no real point to any of what's going on in Burn After Reading. It's not that it's confusing; it's just that it's not really going anywhere.

Stranger Than Fiction (2006,  PG-13)
Stranger Than Fiction
Didn't expect such a performance from ferrell...it's totally different from his ususal characters... the movie gives you a whole new perspective on life and it makes you see how random events can contribute to your possible alterable destiny

The Royal Tenenbaums (2001,  R)
The Royal Tenenbaums

Tenenbaums is a wonderfully scribed character story with witty quips, and hilariously unforeseen turns-of-events that allow us to look at deep, dark psychological scarring with a bit of humor and lighthearted criticism.

The acting is superb with Hackman stealing the show in his best performance in quite some time. The superb casting shines as Owen Wilson joins the cast as family friend and author Eli Cash, along with Bill Murray and Danny Glover delivering juicy performances as secondary characters who are touched in one way or another by the Tenenbaum family.

Overall a very good movie that I recommend seeing, mainly because of gene hackman's brilliant performance ("Gene Hackman won a Golden Globe for his performance and Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson's screenplay was nominated for an Academy Award. Stylus Magazine ranked it number 3 on their list of the Top Films of the Millennium"...not to mention, the film is narrated by one of the best...alec baldwin)...what a cast!!!!

Dumb and Dumber (1994,  PG-13)

The Truman Show (1998,  PG)
The Truman Show
But what really makes THE TRUMAN SHOW work is all the side issues raised by the screenplay. At one level, it's a satire of television, in that the viewers and producers talk about Truman as if he really were nothing more than a character in a TV show, and some of his little daily problems are the artificial, contrived stuff of soap operas. It can also be read as a shot at the current fad of "reality" programming that has brought us the likes of "World's Scariest Police Chases" and "When Animals Attack." Equally interesting, however, is the issue of how we simply accept the reality into which we are born. There are times when I found myself wondering why Truman didn't start getting suspicious earlier, but the small bits of weirdness like the supposed crumbling airplane may well just be part of everyday life as far as he's concerned. Niccol's screenplay also addresses the human rights aspect rather well. He allows Christof to argue that it is the outside world with all its violence and unrest that is sick and twisted rather than his scheme to keep Truman in the studio and on camera, yet still ultimately sides with the small "Free Truman" movement that seems to have sprung up.

Simply put, THE TRUMAN SHOW has everything that makes for an excellent film: an engaging lead performance, a screenplay with solid characterization and plotting and interesting subtexts, and controlled direction that adds to the personality of the film without getting in the way

Office Space (1999,  R)
Office Space
Office Space speaks to the disgruntled office worker just as much today as it did a decade ago. If you have ever had a job, you will get a chuckle or two from the different antics that Peter and his group get into. Within each cubicle we can see the different character nuances that all come together quite nicely in this ensemble cast. Office Space a campy, creative look into the world of cubicles that resonates across generations.

Employee of the Month (2004,  R)
Employee of the Month
The Verdict: Guilty of not having an ending, and not having a clue about how to stumble across the finish line. Mitch Rouse is sentenced to having his head placed in an ever-tightening vice grip to make him feel some of the pain of anyone trying to follow the plot of Employee of the Month...But the comedy-like scenes and, of course, the cast saves the day...
34
Funny People (2009,  R)
Funny People
Photobucket
In my opinion the best comedy of the year... not great, but still far from mediocre...I think Adam Sandler didn't succeed in reinventing himself in this one, but still had really funny parts, Adam Sandler kinda of funny...Not to mention Seth Rogen' performance, which is just the last piece of an unsolved puzzle...All in all, this movie has it all, drama, love, and of course humor...a bittersweet taste, not something typical of a true comedy.
