  TheBeginningAndTheEnd's Rating My Rating
1
The Dark Knight (2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight is more than just a comic book movie and a Batman movie, it's a well made crime drama filled with excellent well-developed characters and perfectly handled action sequences. The entire cast does an excellent job and Heath Ledger is excellent as the chaotic psychopath, Joker. Years from now when people look back on the Batman films, they will remember Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, instead of Tim Burton's carnival goth films and Joel Schumacher's neon, nipple loving lightshow.
2
Batman Begins (2005,  PG-13)
Batman Begins
Christopher Nolan resurrected the limping franchise and brought it back at full force. Thank you Mr. Nolan, thank you. Looking forward to The Dark Knight.
3
Watchmen (2009,  R)
Watchmen
A faithful and brillaint adaptation of the classic graphic novel. Director Zack Snyder and screenwriters David Hayter and Alex Tse should feel proud with what they have accomplished. Can't wait for the extended cut of the film. Ranks with The Dark Knight as one the best comic book films ever made!
4
Spider-Man 2 (2004,  PG-13)
Spider-Man 2
From, the screenplay, the acting, the action, and the drama; everything just works perfectly here. A sequel that is better than the original in everyway.
5
X2 (2003,  PG-13)
X2
A fantastic sequel that's even better than the original. One of the best comic book films. The action is grander and more epic, and the threat is greater.
6
V for Vendetta (2006,  R)
V for Vendetta
A truly great film that everybody should see. V is a classic character.
7
Transformers (2007,  PG-13)
Transformers
Big, loud, funny, and action packed! The movie is pure unadulterated fun. Michael Bay's best film yet.
8
Sin City (2005,  R)
Sin City
A visually stunning three part epic with brilliant storytelling by Frank Miller. The comic panels and the movie look alomost exactly alike. This is Robert Rodriguez's best film.
9
Superman (1978,  PG)
Superman
Christopher Reeve is great in the title role. The first truly great superhero movie.
10
Superman II (1981,  PG)
Superman II
A sequel that's just as good as the original.
11
Wanted (2008,  R)
Wanted
Everything that Shoot' Em Up promised, but failed to deliver on! Balls to the wall crazy action with thrills and style. It's the coolest action movie in a long while.
12
Iron Man (2008,  PG-13)
Iron Man
The best comic book movie since...well since Batman Begins, however this movie is still amazing. Robert Downey Jr. is perfectly cast as Tony Stark.
13
The Incredible Hulk (2008,  PG-13)
The Incredible Hulk
2003's Hulk directed by the immensely talented Ang Lee, was a major disappointment. It was slow moving, had very little action and worst of all, boring. We wanted Hulk to smash, not looking into the distant reminiscing over his thoughts, fighting dogs, or looking deeply at rocks! Well, this reboot of the franchise is what that film should have been. This movie is completely separate from the 2003 film and makes no references to it.

The movie gets the essential origin story out of the way in the opening credits, there's also a mention of Nick Fury in the opening sequence. Dr. Bruce Banner is over exposed to gamma radiation and instead of dying from radiation poisoning he becomes the Hulk a massive green monster that awakens when his emotions get out of control. So he is on the run from the military and trying to find a cure for his condition.

The first half of the movie is more about Banner trying to learn to control the beast within and the second half of this movie is basically some really cool action scenes. I was more partial to the first half, not say that the action scenes were bad, they were amazing. But I found the stuff with Banner learning to control his emotions to be really cool and reminded me of Bruce Wayne training at the beginning of Batman Begins.

The action scenes were fantastic. There are essentially three big action scenes; one that leads to a bottling factory in Brazil, one a college campus, and one in Harlem. All were fantastic and each one different. At the fight in Harlem, the Hulk takes a police car, rips it in half and uses each half as boxing gloves! It was totally badass.

Edward Norton was great Bruce Banner. It seems comic book movies these days are getting actors perfect to play these parts. Tim Roth provides a great villain as Neil Blonsky, who become the evil Abomination. He's a badass here especially after he takes the super soldier serum and takes on the Hulk. Liv Tyler was incredibly sexy in role as Betty Ross. She also came off as very sweet and caring.

The Hulk looks absolutely fantastic, much better than he does in the TV commercials and trailers. One scene that keeps coming to mind is where the Hulk takes Betty to cave in the rain and I was just stunned at how the Hulk looked. It's hard making a 10 ft. tall green man look believable, but this movie pulls it off.

William Hurt is not very good in his role as General Ross. He just reading lines and cashing a check, which is a shame because I usually like William Hurt. Sam Elliot was better in the 2003 Hulk film.

While the final battle was visually stunning and well choreographed, the Abomination was spewing really cheesy dialog. I love it when villains love being villains, but here it didn't really fit since Emil Blonksy was smarter and wittier and I couldn't believe that he was spewing such cheese. It seems that many comic book movies fall into this trap. Also, when Hulk says his infamous line "Hulk smash!" it came off way too over dramatic and hammy.

With those minor flaws though, this Hulk is the film everyone wanted and is a very energetic and fun film. Louis Leterrier (The Transporter, Unleashed) has directed a very fun, fast paced action film that is sure please. It's not as good as Iron Man, but then again Iron Man is close to perfect. The Incredible Hulk is however, a very good companion piece to Iron Man. Speaking of which?Tony Stark decided to show up. Apparently he's putting a team together. :)
14
Spider-Man (2002,  PG-13)
Spider-Man
Contains some cheesy dialogue and campy moments, but overall it's "Amazing."
15
Constantine (2005,  R)
Constantine
Very well executed horror thriller.
16
Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut (2006,  PG)
Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut
It's about as good as the Lester version. The action scenes are much better.
17
X-Men (2000,  PG-13)
X-Men
OExtremely cool comic book flick. From it's brilliant opening scene we understand that this was going to be like no comic book movie we've seen before. There's more emphasis on character than action, but that's not a bad thing.
18
300 (2007,  R)
300
It's a manly man movie. sonuvabitch. It's completely awesome. Not quite as awesome as Sin City though. It really needed another writer to polish things up.
19
Superman Returns (2006,  PG-13)
Superman Returns
I don't care what anyone says, I loved it. Kate Bosworth was a poor Lois Lane.
20
From Hell (2001,  R)
From Hell
One of the better Alan Moore adaptations. Excellent story and Johnny Depp was great.
21
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie (1990,  PG)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie
A really dark interpretation of the heroes in a half-shell. The final battle with the Shredder is awesome! Great special effects.
22
Batman (1989,  PG-13)
Batman
Great atmosphere, and visually stunning but it's lacking a good story. It contains some great action, even if Batman breaks his one rule.
23
Swamp Thing (1982,  PG)
Swamp Thing
I used to watch this all the time as a kid and I still enjoy it on VHS.
24
Blade (1998,  R)
Blade
It's a good film, but the club scene at the beginning was brilliant.
25
The Punisher (2004,  R)
The Punisher
It's dark and brutal, but not as much as it could have been. Thomas Jane is great as The Punisher and Travolta is surprisingly very good. I know with the budget you had to film in Florida instead of NYC, but you could have at least gotten rid of the shots of the palm trees and sunshine. It just looks out of place. See the extended version it's way better.
26
Blade II (Blade 2) (2002,  R)
Blade II (Blade 2)
Guillermo del Toro's personal touches make this a fun film to watch.
27
Daredevil (2003,  PG-13)
Daredevil
A mediocre comic book movie that has some well done fight scenes. The director's cut is much better.
28
Batman Returns (1992,  PG-13)
Batman Returns
It's just too weird to be fully enjoyed. This however a fantastic looking picture with some neat action, despite the fact that Batman breaks his "no killing" rule on several occasions.
29
Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2) (2008,  PG-13)
Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2)
While Hellboy is step up from it's predecessor, the main problem remains; Hellboy. Fantastic make-up effects. The set up for part 3, does intrigue me.
30
Punisher: War Zone (2008,  R)
Punisher: War Zone
You can't take this dopey movie seriously for 2 seconds. It's goofy, implausible, poorly written, and the directing style shadows that of Joel Schumacher's Batman films (multiple colored lights, neon everywhere). But God help me, this movie was entertaining! Fast paced and action packed.
31
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007,  PG)
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
An improvement over the original, mostly due to the appearance of Silver Surfer and the 3rd acts action sequences. But the movie is still over the top corny and silly with childish jokes that all fall flat.
32
Spider-Man 3 (2007,  PG-13)
Spider-Man 3
This movie was a grand disappointment, however at the same time I can't completely dismiss it. While it has it's moments, it doesn't stack up with the first two. Topher Grace was a nice addition to the cast as was Thomas Hayden Church, even though I wished they had dropped the Sandman story-line. The action scenes were top notch even though some where not very well thought out (out of control crane?) Bryce Dallas Howard and James Cromwell were unnecessary additions and gave the weakest performances of the movie. And what the hell was Mary Jane's problem? Peter saves your life on numerous occasions and you still find time to bitch and complain at him? Venom also deserved more screen time. This not the darkest of the trilogy. it's the cheesiest.
33
The Spirit (2008,  PG-13)
The Spirit
A beautifully shot film. To bad the dialog, acting, and story are a mess. Frank Miller hasn't written anything good in a long while.
34
X-Men Origins - Wolverine (2009,  PG-13)
X-Men Origins - Wolverine
What a lame duck movie. There is nothing worth watching here aside from Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. Why are the special effects so bad in this movie? Thank you Tom Rothman for screwing this up.
35
Batman Forever (1995,  PG-13)
Batman Forever
Goofy and cartoonish. The villains are way over the top and are just trying to recapture Jack Nicholson's Joker.
36
Superman III (1983,  PG)
Superman III
The comedy ruins the franchise that had so much potential.
37
X-Men: The Last Stand (2006,  PG-13)
X-Men: The Last Stand
After the build up from part one and two this what we get? This sucks.
38
Fantastic Four (2005,  PG-13)
Fantastic Four
Very little action and over the top silly. This could be retitled: Four superheroes in an apartment.
39
Hulk (2003,  PG-13)
Hulk
Like watching a High School biology video, just less entertaining.
40
Hellboy (2004,  PG-13)
Hellboy
A weak comic book movie that's very dry. Half the movie takes place in murky, dusty and uninteresting catacombs and sewers. The Make-Up effects are great.
41
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009,  PG-13)
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
All I have to say is wow. How do you screw up this badly. This superficial, vulgar and racist movie with a virtually no story is the best the filmmakers could come up with? The humor here ranges from dumb to down right offensive, the action scenes are almost identical to the ones in the first movie and the movie itself is just awful. Steve Jablonsky's amazing music score is why this movie doesn't get the lowest rating.
42
Blade - Trinity (2004,  R)
Blade - Trinity
The story is lame, the action is underwhelming and cut together like a bad music video, and Dracula was miscast. David Goyer really screwed up here. Ryan Reynolds does provide some really good lines here and there. Dracula was totally miscast.
43
The Punisher (1989,  R)
44
Catwoman (2004,  PG-13)
Catwoman
It's craptastic!
45
Batman: The Movie (1966,  PG)
Batman: The Movie
This film poisoned the Batman name for decades.
46
The Return of Swamp Thing (1989,  PG-13)
The Return of Swamp Thing
Swamp Thing looks great, but the action, comedy and story are all just terrible.
47
Batman & Robin (1997,  PG-13)
Batman & Robin
Truly awful in everyway. Nothing redeemable here.
48
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003,  PG-13)
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
If you wonder why Alan Moore won't put his name on any more of his movies this is why.
49
Superman IV - The Quest for Peace (1987,  PG)
Superman IV - The Quest for Peace
A lazy, half-assed movie that doesn't even try to please its audience.
50
Man-Thing (2005,  R)
Man-Thing
Awful dialog, awful acting, awful production values, awful movie...
51
Ghost Rider (2007,  PG-13)
Ghost Rider
One of the worst comic book movies ever made and certainly one of the cheesiest. The comic book is dark and brooding, the movie can?t hold a straight face for 10 seconds. A superhero from hell should be badass not a dork. The acting is lame at best, the dialog is hammy and sounds like it came from a Saturday morning cartoon and the action sequences last less than a minute.
52
Captain America (1990,  PG-13)
Captain America
Bad on all fronts.
"Gee Wizz!" I hope this gets the treatment it deserves in the future.

Spider-Man 4 (2011,  Unrated)
Spider-Man 4
Hopefully this movie will make up for Spider-Man 3.

Silver Surfer
Maybe the Silver Surfer will get the respect he deserves in this movie.

pretty epic list, you got just about every single comic to movie adaption ever, but what about The Spirit.
