Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi)
I must say, it took me a while to watch this, because I'm not really a fan of anime. I much prefer live-action. But once you get hooked there's no stopping, no matter how droppy my eyes were.

A movie for children, not in a way that it's all cutesy childish; no, the movie is for the open-minded, or the ones with a big imagination. You don't get any explanation for all the things that happen. You just accept that these things exists in a whole different fantasy world.

Trust, bravery, friendship, love, hardwork and determination, and a whole bunch more values are taken up in this movie, but despite that, it never got preachy, (except maybe for the love part, but I can forgive that. :p)

Think along the lines of Bridge to Terabithia, Pan's Labyrinth. If you liked those, then I recommend this one for you. :)

*I wish to watch this with original japanese audio though. I only have the english dub.

Not that I've seen a lot, but this has got to be one of the "prettiest" animes ever made. It's like, you know it's anime, but it looks so darn real.

I'm not the biggest fan of chapter by chapter movies, but this one worked well with that format, making the pacing better than what I would imagine if they made it into a seamless piece.

I don't know if it's just me, but I found the first chapter incredibly slow. I've had similar pacing experience with other japanese movies, and I understand why they like doing it, but sometimes I really have to speed it up or I can't bear it. But by the time he actually reached the station, I loved it. :)

I liked the fact that they opted to take a different view/narration in the second chapter. That was actually my favorite one.

The third chapter was a short one, both of them grown up, and sadly awakened from dreams. It was a sad yet realistic ending that you actually wanted to lengthen the movie expecting it to have a happy ending.
