Paths of Glory (1957, Unrated)
great kubrick filmdealing with a true incident in world war 1 involving french soldiors who refused to go charge to there deaths when ordered, and there eventual trial by french goverment, and kurk douglas as sergent defending them, very controvershal for france and was banned for many years, great direction showing typical kubrick tricks, the war scenes look terrific, and photoghraphy as usual top form, possible conteder best film of the 50s with twelve angry men, and my second fav kubrick after dr strangelove |

Primal Fear (1996, R)
this may be a richard gere film, but dont let that put you off, apart from being a nice little legal thriller, its also the debut film for edward norton, a great debut, in a supporting role, but plays a vital and inportant role as a young kid arfested for a murder of a priest, gere the top criminal atorney, always taking big media type cases, jumps on the case, the problem with nortons charactor being, hes got a multi personality, and they have to decide, was it him who killed the priest of his alta ego, a fine mystery throughout, and does keep you guessing, as to nortons motives, and boy what a performance, he was nominated for best supporting actor for this, and well worth it, and show cases a career to follow |

12 Angry Men (Twelve Angry Men) (1957, Unrated)
superb. set in one room, a jury room after a court case, and 12 men have to decide a mans fate, but thrown in the mix is henry fonda, he thinks the guy is inocent and theres not enough evidence to convict, the other 11 are convinced and just wanna get out of there, so he starts telling them what he thiniks and one by one, start to change there opinion, this is a exellent drama, remade a few times, but this version is best, exellent performances, from everyone, but fonda displays why he was one of the best of that period, speech after speech, this is what actors want to do, the setting in one room, is a great idea, and puts you in there, your stuck there as well, and great just sittingb back taking it all in, probely best film of 50s |
