Le Souffle au Coeur (Murmur of the Heart)
The last ten minutes of this movie become... unsettling, but everything prior leads to it and it really comes to no surprise. Fantastic and relatively accessible by Louis Malle.

La Haine (Hate)
I honestly expected something more intense, but it was still a brilliant movie with a terrific Criterion DVD cover.
49
Youth of the Beast (,  Unrated)
50
Equinox (1992,  R)
Equinox
Some nice stop motion animation, hokey dialogue. Will appeal to 70s camp horror fans.
51
Hearts and Minds (2004,  R)
Hearts and Minds
Powerful doc on Vietnam War.
52
La Jetée (The Pier) (1962,  Unrated)
La Jetée (The Pier)
Freaky when the woman blinked her eyes.
53
C'est arrivé près de chez vous (Man Bites Dog) (It Happened in Your Neighborhood) (1992,  NC-17)
C'est arrivé près de chez vous (Man Bites Dog) (It Happened in Your Neighborhood)
I really love the way this film was shot and how it looks. Another example of how you don't need a big budget to make a great movie :)
54
House of Games (1987,  R)
House of Games
David Mamet is a great writer and director. The only problem in this movie was the hokey acting by the main character. The con men themselves were excellent. The ending was kinda disappointing and not really what I was expecting or hoping for but it doesn't take away from the movie.
55
Days of Heaven (1978,  PG)
Days of Heaven
So far, this is my favorite Malick.
56
Breathless (À bout de souffle) (By a Tether) (1961,  Unrated)

Nanook of the North (1922,  Unrated)
Nanook of the North
Watch them eat raw seal and build an igloo! Fascinating documentary.
58
Tokyo Story (,  Unrated)
59
Jungfrukällan (The Virgin Spring) (1960,  Unrated)
Jungfrukällan (The Virgin Spring)
Only the second Bergman film I've seen, the other being The Seventh Seal. Apparantly this film is based on a ballad, it certainly paced like one. I don' t know if it's a common mood of his films but both films so far felt very bleak, the atmosphere and acting is very dark and foreboding.

I like it. I like it a lot.
60
Smultronstället (Wild Strawberries) (1957,  Unrated)
Smultronstället (Wild Strawberries)
I liked this bittersweet film a lot. It reminded me of Ikiru in a way. I would rate this as third in my list of favorite Bergman films. Again, I love how all the films look and I love the pacing. I'm glad I got the Bergman boxset for Christmas :)
61
Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take One (1968,  Unrated)
Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take One
This could've been so much better.

Pierrot le Fou (Pierrot Goes Wild) (Crazy Pete) (1969,  Unrated)
63
The Ice Storm (1997,  R)
64
Sans soleil (Sunless) (1983,  R)

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
WE CAN'T STOP HERE. THIS IS BAT COUNTRY!
66
Smiles Of A Summer Night (1955,  Unrated)
Smiles Of A Summer Night
Ingmar Bergman's idea of comedy. A movie about switching partners.
67
Beauty and The Beast (La Belle et la bête) (1946,  Unrated)
Beauty and The Beast (La Belle et la bête)
There were some really awesome effects. I don't prefer this over the Disney version. At least the Disney version had a singing candle and an ottoman that was like a dog! Just kidding, really.
68
La Boulangère de Monceau (The Baker of Monceau)(The Girl at the Monceau Bakery) (1963,  Unrated)
La Boulangère de Monceau (The Baker of Monceau)(The Girl at the Monceau Bakery)
The first of Eric Rohmer that I've seen and it's impressive. I definitely want to check out all of his movies.
69
M (1931,  Unrated)
M
Back in college I rented this movie from the library but never finished it. Forward about 5 years to 2007 and I did my second attempt to watch it and STILL did not finish it. Finally, I managed to stay awake (not that it's boring, poor timing on my part) and finish the film and it's a great serial killer film. The transfer wasn't that great, though. I love Peter Lorre.
70
Eyes Without a Face (,  Unrated)
Eyes Without a Face
Glad I finally finished watching this movie. Christiane would make a great Halloween costume.
71
Corridors of Blood (1963,  Unrated)
Corridors of Blood
A "horror" movie about sleeping gas? Some really great shots and always awesome screen presence of Boris Karloff, but overall, kinda... dull? The Haunted Strangler is a lot better in this Criterion set.
72
Yojimbo (1961,  Unrated)
Yojimbo
I love the scene in the beginning where the dog runs out with a man's hand in his mouth. I'm pretty sure there is the same scene in David Lynch's Wild at Heart. Kurosawa and Mifune - always a great pair.
73
Goodbye, Children (Au Revoir Les Enfants) (1987,  PG)
Goodbye, Children (Au Revoir Les Enfants)
This movie progressively went from uninteresting to amazing. Technically, I didn't think there was anything wrong with it. Just one of those moments where the first 30/45 minutes aren't cutting it. It really is an emotional movie.
74
Young Mr. Lincoln (1939,  Unrated)
Young Mr. Lincoln
Surprisingly entertaining movie. There were some actions the characters made that I didn't like/approve of, but overall, I enjoyed the acting and the story. I didn't expect the majority of the film to revolve around a murder and courtroom drama. I guess I just don't know much about Honest Abe.
75
Tokyo Drifter (1966,  Unrated)
Tokyo Drifter
Tetsu is really likable. He looks like a manga/anime character. Reminds me of GTO. I liked the music as well.
76
La Double Vie de Véronique (The Double Life of Veronique) (1991,  R)
La Double Vie de Véronique (The Double Life of Veronique)
My first Kieslowski. I liked all the stylized shot and the music.
77
Kicking and Screaming (1995,  R)
Kicking and Screaming
First, although I DID want to see this movie, I thought I was renting the Will Ferrell comedy. Second, I heard that this was a bad movie and I agree, the dialogue made me want to start kicking and screaming. At least I liked Squid and the Whale.
78
Branded to Kill (1967,  Unrated)
Branded to Kill
This movie didn't really appeal to me. It's the most weird and sexual and... weirdly sexual Suzuki movie I've seen. I can see how it's a cult classic and how it's influenced some famous directors but it's not one of my favorites. The last 30 minutes were awesome.
79
Soshun (Early Spring) (1974,  Unrated)
Soshun (Early Spring)
That whole idea of accepting cheating men for what they are or else you'll be viewed as stubborn is amusing to me. On one side I can understand it, but the riot grrl side thinks its ridiculous.
80
Mafioso (1964,  Unrated)
Mafioso
I really was expecting more of a slapstick comedy rather than a cultural difference type of comedy where you may not get it unless you know of Italian stereotypes. The "jokes" aren't hard to get (ie, the Sicilian girl with too much facial hair), but to bill this as a comedy was misleading to me. The character development of Nino Badalamenti is great as it culminates to his "favor" for the Mafia. Terrific music and camera work.
81
Dead Ringers (1988,  R)
Dead Ringers
Not what I was expecting but still very good.
82
Umberto D. (1952,  Unrated)
Umberto D.
A great film about an elderly man and his dog. Aside from all the technical stuff, I really loved the dog. Umberto, an old guy on pension faces eviction so his hardship is basically gathering money to pay rent. Well, he's seemingly healthy, why doesn't he just get a job?! I know this is a different time, but c'mon... put a little effort in it! Maria is an annoying girl who plays an idiot who's pregnant. The landlady is a bitch. The best actor in this movie is Flike as he really inspires Umberto that there is still hope in the world. Also, Umberto is a dick for what he did at those train tracks. Thank goodness for Flike.
83
Drunken Angel (1948,  Unrated)
Drunken Angel
Wow, I think this is the youngest I've seen of Mifune. I didn't recognize him until about 45 minutes in. A well done, well-paced (er, if not a little slow) story.
84
Waga Seishun ni Kuinashi (No Regrets for Our Youth) (1946,  Unrated)
Waga Seishun ni Kuinashi (No Regrets for Our Youth)
Again, the development is really slow, but pays off in the end. One of the greatest movie titles. Ever.
85
Scandal (1946,  Unrated)
Scandal
Pretty good, Mifune is really handsome! Touches up on an issue that still applies today, the tabloids and media!
86
Baisers Volés (Stolen Kisses) (1968,  R)
Baisers Volés (Stolen Kisses)
An amusing Antoine Doinel tale.
87
Cleo From 5 to 7 (Cléo de 5 à 7) (1962,  Unrated)
Cleo From 5 to 7 (Cléo de 5 à 7)
After renting this twice in the past, I finally watched this movie. It's done really well, I love the shots in the beginning when they're riding in the cab. It always astonishes me how people drive in different countries. Anyway, it kinda loses steam in the end and there were some scenes I didn't care for, but those scenes were done really well. I'm definitely going to check out Agnes Varda's other works.
88
Blast of Silence (1961,  Unrated)
Blast of Silence
I didn't find it as suspenseful as the reviews claimed. I'm not sure how this movie warranted a Criterion release but I have read a glowing review from EW so this movie has to be significant in some way. I did read somewhere that this was a low budget movie. Eh, I'm still not too impressed.
89
Tirez sur le pianiste (Shoot the Piano Player) (1960,  Unrated)
Tirez sur le pianiste (Shoot the Piano Player)
What was so great about this? It's well done, a variety of genres, great cinematography by Raoul Coutard, great acting, fine storytelling, but I'm not impressed. It isn't rave-worthy, just a decent movie.
90
Mishima - A Life in Four Chapters (1985,  R)
Mishima - A Life in Four Chapters
Criterion just released this as part of their collection and it's colorful, vibrant cover was worth buying it without ever having seen the movie.

I have not read any of Mishima's work, but this movie is famous for not only being well done, but for it's Philip Glass score.

The movie is set in 4 chapters. Each of the chapters contains staged scenes from Mishima's work. Some were OK, some I just didn't care for. I was more into the scenes of Mishima. It starts off on that fateful day of November 25, 1970 and then branches off into his life story.

It's a good movie, I'm going to try to watch the bonus disc when I get around to it.
91
Vengeance Is Mine (1979,  Unrated)
Vengeance Is Mine
Ken Ogata rules.
92
La Strada (The Road) (1954,  PG)
La Strada (The Road)
I liked this better than 8 1/2 as I found it more interesting. I wasn't moved by this story, although the very end was pretty sad. Stars for the technical aspects and for Giulietta Masina, who is as cute as a button. I find Vittorio De Sica's films a whole lot more emotional.
93
Pickpocket (1959,  Unrated)
Pickpocket
I mostly liked it as a study on the art of classic pickpocketing.
94
Shadows (1959,  PG)
Shadows
Impressive for a debut. I appreciate the gritty look, imperfect editing (you notice the change in splice), the jazz score, and the improvisation (noted at the end of the movie, explains the "natural", disjointed acting).
95
Sweet Movie (1974,  Unrated)
Sweet Movie
I really couldn't focus on any symbolism on the movie because I was too busy being weirded out by it. It really doesn't get super weird until the last 40 minutes. I could deal with the pedophilia scenes and the vomiting (Jackass, anyone?). It was just totally weird.
96
Le Doulos (1962,  Unrated)
Le Doulos
I really liked Belmondo in this film. The movie didn't do much for me until the very end.
97
The Steel Helmet (1951,  Unrated)
The Steel Helmet
The first Samuel Fuller film for me. A decent war movie that culminates with an awesome shootout in the end. I think this movie does have some prryhic elements to it, but not as obvious as something like Seven Samurai. It's interesting that the little Korean boy in this film is referred to as "Short Round", something I always connected to Indiana Jones. The scene at the temple reminded me of the last battle in Saving Private Ryan.
98
Lacombe Lucien (1974,  R)
Lacombe Lucien
The only thing that I cared about this film was that it's really easy to kill rabbits and chickens with your bare hands. I guess I already knew that about chickens, but not rabbits. I really didn't find the story interesting and was bored to death.
99
La Pointe Courte (1954,  Unrated)
La Pointe Courte
Reminded me of Breathless. I like the way it was shot. Not much else but a nice debut by Varda.
100
Les Enfants du Paradis (Children of Paradise) (1945,  Unrated)
Les Enfants du Paradis (Children of Paradise)
This movie was supposed to be great but I didn't really feel any connection from the characters, particularly the love story. A huge disappointment for me.
101
Brand Upon the Brain! (2006,  Unrated)
Brand Upon the Brain!
I have to admit, I loved this film because of the style. It reminded me of how my boyfriend makes films.
