Awakenings (1990,  PG-13)
Awakenings
so sad this film.
dr malcolm sawyer(robin williams) starts work in a hospital amoung the patients he notices certain patients in a coma like state, but functioning as people, leonard(deniro is one such person, and through a drug which is experimental, leonard is put as a trial, it works and he awakens from his coma, after 50 odd years, but pretty soon he falls back into his state, and with others on same drug pretty soon they know they will to.
sad sad sad, it really is,everytime deniro is on screen, from his moments seeing his mom for first time, getting in fits of rge, or at the end when hes rejecting the drugs, hes magnificent, what deniro does is great, his twitches, mood swings everything, you realy care, and williams too, hes great, you actually feel for him as well, so many sad moments, but also a great film to lift your spirits as well, and based on a true story, a great medical drama, dont be afraid to cry you will many times during this film.

Across the Universe (2007,  PG-13)
Across the Universe
here we follow jude, a guy from liverpool, who travels to newyork and gets involved with a group of people through the turmoil of the 60s and vietnam, but told through the songwriting and songs of the beatles, classed as a usical, many songs sang here, and interesting to see how the script was written through beatles songs, great moments of song, many set piecse, which look really cool, slickly directed, and dont know if itys just me, but, jim sturgess who plays jude, looks a lot like paul mcartney, even his actions, dont know how much thats intentional, but helps, the beatles were a major part of the 60s so, i think this is a very good idea, many times through this, the lyrics matched perfectly, especially hey jude at thre end, almost had a tear in my eye, and watch out for u2,s bono turning up singing i am the walrus, its actually good, the songs stand up even though its not lennon, mcartney singing them, a good watch

Waitress (2007,  PG-13)
Waitress
last film from adriene shelley, and her debut, as she was killed last year after completing this film.
keri russell, stars as a wife and waitress, who really hates her life, apart ffrom all the pies she makes. especially her husband, who shes planning to run away from, when she finds shes pregnant, she has to decide whats right to do, and meets local doc, played by serenity star nathan fullon, they hit it off, and start to have a affair while being doctor and patient, and both married, a great look at middle american life, in small town, and very witty, everyone is great, keri russell, is superb as the board housewife, and fullen reliable as ever, and a role for direcror shelley, as a waitress, similer to films like station agent, and the good girl, so if you liked those check this out.

Red Road (2007,  Unrated)
Red Road
great british fil here depicting what could be about redemption, revenge or loss, seen throughb the eyes of a woman, making a stand on her own when people are questioning her motives, and also brings up a few isues withb todays society. jackie is a lonely cctv operator, working certain sections, of the city, and one known as red road, when one day she spots a man she seems to know, so she spends her time watching this guy, waiting to see what he does, as we the viewer dont realise what he has done, we see two people going about there lives, is the man guilty of something, hes fresh out of jail, and hanging round playgrounds, is he a peadophile, is he selling drugs to kids, jackie knows and shes not saying, so when she confronts the man at his home, will we get answers.
aparently a 1st part to a trilogi with the same charactor, but different situations, kate dickie, is on form here as jackie, love the way you dont know why shes doing what shes doing, and ass the man is depicted as creepy, all the more afective, and i do like the outcome here as we see why shes doing what shes doing, great british feel as well, very ken loach. directed by andre arnold, a great debut and looking forward to more from here, especially if made in britain.

evan rachael wood, bursts onyo the screen as trouble teen, getting in with the wrong crowd discovering her teen rebellion, as she gets in deep with fellow teen evie, played by nikki reed, who shows her what being a teen is really about, drink, underage sex, and various things, reed also wrote the script, and really getting under the skin of a teenager wih problems, evans wood went on to great things after this, playing some great roles dealing with teenage problems, and this is certainly her best, directed by catherin hardwicke, a great women director, great indie feel, very down and gritty, a film with great performances

A Way of Life
life for a single mom and her young kid in the south wales valleys, her brother and friends and dealings with a imigrant living across street, and the racism that comes across, very real looking and acted, with all doing very well, especially the actress playing the mom, a interesting and critical look at life for people not making much money and stress and situations thart arise

Orlando (1992,  PG-13)
Orlando
tilda swinton, is great to watch in this, not a great film over all, but tildas performance certainly brings it up a notch, she commands every scene, and is both cold and cute at same time, and years later, sofia coppala tried a similer type of film, with marie antwanette, trying to show a inportant figure, a young women, living her day

christian bale takes on a controversal role, as patrick bateman, from a very controversial book, a yuppie in 80s newyork, who has mentAl urges to kill, mostly annoying or competitive workers, bale does a great job, playing a american, and film does a good job getting into mind of a man not all there, great 80s setting, with some embaressing bad tunes along the way, definatly the film that propelled bale to known actor,
