Dead Man's Shoes (2006,  Unrated)
Dead Man's Shoes 5.0 Stars
two brothers, return home, to there northerntown in england, andseethat local thugs that ran things years ago, are still around, and causing trouble, and who were also the guys who caused the younger brother a lot of pain, and torment, years earliar, so the reason for returning, to town is revenge, so throygh the course of the film, richard, the older of the 2, seeks out his justice, a great follow up from shane meadows, after, aroom for romeo brass, with a great northern setting, certasinly reminds me of get carter, in style, and with paddy constainstein, a contender for our generations bob de niro, hes superb in this, you really dont know whats going to happen, when he catches up, with his prey, as with all meadows films the acting is realistic, ad not unlike documentary style, check out his new one, this is england for more, oh and a amazing twist. check this out.

This Is England (2007,  Unrated)
This Is England 5.0 Stars
an amazing look at childhood, in the uk, in the 80s when thatcher was ruining the country, and the war in the falklands was raging on, this sees a young kid whos dad died, in the war, coping with life, being bullied in school, he befriends a bunch of older teenagers who belong to a neo-nazi gang, here he fits right in, gets a skin head, and has a good time, but when the older, true ring leader of the gang turns up, fresh from jail, things turn up side down, and the gang splits up, superbly played by stephen grahem, the leader, is a pressure cooker waiting to explode and is only a matter of time, a superb, coming of age story, suberbly played all round, taking us to a time, we dont wana go back to, every child in the uk should se this film, parents should let them, its a great lesson to be learned. this is also a great follow up from shane meadows, after dead mans shoes, seek that film out as well, a director to watch.

TwentyFourSeven (1998,  R)
TwentyFourSeven 5.0 Stars
calling all shane meadows fans, before, dead mans shoes, this is england, a room for romeo brass, and one upon a time in the midlands was his debut, a brilliant portrayal of young unemployed kids growing up in nottingham, in the north of england, and a man, played by bob hoskins who opens up a boxing club, trying his best to broaden the bored youths minds, as the club gets noticed, and various things to do, will this new influence in there lives be the 1 thing they need, meadows has made no secret hes a scorsese fan, so this is definatly his whos that knocking at my door, a debut shot on grainy black and white, making use of locations at hand, a great boost getting hoskins to be in this as well, he must really believed in meadows, again like all his films the acting is top notch, getting untrained actors in inportant parts works, the natural way they act and sound, adds to the story, just like this is england, its all in the words. great soundtrack as well, the best of british

Somers Town 4.5 Stars
shane meadows, follows up this is england with another slice of young life, and again starring this is englands thomas turgoose, and again like other meadows films this is england, dead mans shoes, and others naturalistic acting, that brings something to the table always, the two leads once they meet, are superb together, a young polish youngster and a nrthern lad discovering each other in london, its a simple story, and with a short running time , never outstays its welcome, runs veey briskly, and never dull, full of cracking dialogue, and great black and white cinematography, a simple story of friendship

A Room for Romeo Brass (2000,  R)
A Room for Romeo Brass 4.0 Stars
again, great natural acting from young kids bringing this above your typical up north kids picture, and in paddy consadine, a evil, dangerousguy, you just dont know what to expect, as he befriends the 2 kids, becoming there friend while in trouble, but his short dangerous fuse, coming full force, you laugh at his childish ways, then with a sudden turn, after pitying him, he becomes a dangorous bully, well acted all round, and again meadows showing hes one of britains very best directors

Once Upon a Time in the Midlands (2003,  R)
Once Upon a Time in the Midlands 3.5 Stars
calling all shane meadow fans, before exellent dead mans shoes, in his own words he did this misfire, again set up north, robert carlyise is a guy coming back to town, but his sweetheart is happily married to rhys ifans, and he wants to win her bsck, so we get a nervous husband going about his day working himself up of a prospect of loosing his wife to this blast frm the past, this film is not really that bad, yes meadows disowns the film but dont even let that put you off, it is the bottom of pile for his films, but considerintg his other films are twentyfourseven, a room for romeo brass, dead mans shoes and last years exellent this is england, calling this a average film on his c.v would be quite inpressive, the storys okay, maybe a bit too long, but rhys ifans especially is great, what is missing is naturalistic acting from non actors, or non proffessional actors, you donr get whats sen in all other shane meadow films, but put him out of mind when watching, its enjoyable, a mistake in his eyes, which lead to dead mans shoes, so a great thing then, meadow fans who havent seen it, its not bad, give it a go
