Mou gaan dou (Infernal Affairs) (2002,  R)
Mou gaan dou (Infernal Affairs)
I watched this movie from part 1 to 3 a couple of times because I need to digest it deeply. The movie made me awe because it got a very smart story compared to other chinese/HK movies ever made. A police infiltrate the mob and that mob got an infiltrator in the police. HK movie was known to made stories on cops and gangsters in their action movies. Infernal Affairs was like the next evolution of this famous police drama from HK. Hey, I watched HK movies since I was in kindergarten and this movie really own.

The Illusionist (2006,  PG-13)
The Illusionist
This movie is awesome, it was a journey of a great magician getting involved with the duchess and subsequently the imperial politics. He was under police suspicion because the police itself was corrupt.

Edward Norton's character was part magician, lover, activist, entertainer and he does it well in a charismatic way.

The movie had a smart plot. It let us think about why he did it and gave us the answer right in the end with the how he did it. Not everything was explain like the tricks he made, but it was a good movie.

For a movie with magicians but showed his tricks, try and watch the Prestige.

The Prestige (2006,  PG-13)
The Prestige
I like the storyline, it was like about rivalry of two magician and they got surprise at the end. The ending was magnificent because everything was revealed. The movie was satisfying because you can now know how they did it.

9
The Shawshank Redemption (1994,  R)
10
Blood Diamond (2006,  R)
Blood Diamond
Diamond was so cheap there and blood was much cheaper than that. A movie with geo-political impact on a real scale. If one such thing can change the world it must be that good.

Finding Forrester (2000,  PG-13)

Milk (2008,  R)
Milk
Full of emotion. I am straight, some of the love scene was just too over the top for me, nothing against it, just not my cup of tea. To hell with that, but the movie was really emotional and moving. A very strong character and a beautiful story, nothing can beat that.
19
All The King's Men (2006,  PG-13)
All The King's Men
It should be great with the great cast. I had disappointment with this because there was something out of place with it. Damn.
20
The Nun's Story (1999,  Unrated)
The Nun's Story
This movie showed Audey's talent. She was one of the best potrayal of nun. This story revolves around the conflict of the heart, between the interest of the church and the common good. The movie wasn't so explicit yet it does argue the church in way was revolutionary in its time for a movie.

The Fisher King (1991,  R)
The Fisher King

So he try to get the 'holy grail'. He gave him the holy grail then he woke up. In the end, the they met each other and the whole ward sang. Both of em then slept naked on the field watching the fireworks. Comedy/Romance/Drama... it got it all.

There Will Be Blood (2007,  R)
There Will Be Blood
Daniel Day Lewis was sadistic. \../, horns up for his performance. The whole movie was like a drama, about life and it was good. Greed was the driving force, anything will do in the name of profit.
24
No Country for Old Men (2007,  R)
No Country for Old Men
Javier Bardem was personifying brewtality. He was a fearless, manipulative, intelligent and philosophical being. Good acting, nice story and kept you expecting for the next thing to come.
25
Seven Pounds (2008,  PG-13)
Seven Pounds
Sad and depressed movie. Will Smith acting was no different than that of the pursuit for happiness....well its actually nothing in the end.
26
Gran Torino (2009,  R)

Lion of the Desert (Omar Mukhtar) (1981,  PG)
Lion of the Desert (Omar Mukhtar)
The central character was moving the enough.
28
Against the Wall (1994,  R)
Against the Wall
I watched this on HBO a week ago. It wasn't like a movie from the 80's. Samuel L. Jackson's acting was good back then and better now.

Blood In, Blood Out (Bound by Honor) (1993,  R)
Blood In, Blood Out (Bound by Honor)
It was a classic. A very long movie which anyone can relate to and enjoy. It can entertain even non-english speakers in a third world country. The dialogue was so cool it became a catch phrase for people here. Hard to believe, believe it!
30
The Bucket List (2007,  PG-13)
The Bucket List
Its a heartwarming movie, giving hope to the hopeless. In reality its like once in hundred of million probability maybe billion this would happen. Can't wish for something special or unpredictable about it. The emotion was real, but the situation was surreal. Anyway, its enjoyable.

Empire of the Sun (1987,  PG)
Empire of the Sun
I watched this a couple of times already. The movie still lingers in my mind. The empty pool and the concentration camp. Funny thing was that, it was very strange after decades of not watching this I still have vivid memory of this movie.
32
The Kite Runner (2008,  PG-13)
The Kite Runner
This was marvelous.
33
Fracture (2007,  R)
Fracture
I was stupid enough not to suspect the gun(he swaped it). My stupidity made it as a surprise and the movie was astonishing. Anthony Hopkins was a manipulative bad guy, a smart one which made you hopeless. In the end after you thought there was no evidence to put away this guy. There was the gun, I never suspect it. That was a smart story. It kept me watching to the end.
