1408 (2007,  PG-13)
1408
I wasn't exactly disappointed but it could have been a lot scarier based on what it promised. Strong drama and great performance from Cusack but would call it a thriller, not a horror movie. (And I bet the novel by King is a lot scarier)

The 10th Kingdom (,  Unrated)
The 10th Kingdom
Cohen is not my favourite but in this he's just so loveable! Of course, I love almost everything with fairy t ale in it.
3
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994,  R)
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
Shiny :P I was pretty horrified when I realised my dvd box has pink glitter linings but - then again - I wouldn't imagine it in any other way :) Wonderful, funny and surprisingly serious road trip movie.
4
Amadeus (1984,  R)
Amadeus
Makes me cry and makes me laugh. The ending combined with the genius's music drains my tear channels.
5
Les Amants du Pont-Neuf (The Lovers on the Bridge) (1999,  R)
Les Amants du Pont-Neuf (The Lovers on the Bridge)
Solid acting, beautiful scenery and camera work but left me a bit disappointed.
6
Arabian Nights (2000,  Unrated)
Arabian Nights
Amazing special effects and definitely a remarkable adaptation of the tales.
7
Australia (2008,  PG-13)
Australia
It did make me cry and the scenery was breathtaking. But. It could have needed some improving on the story and editing because now it was much too long since there were two story lines. Not a disappointment but didn't win my heart either.
8
Blade Runner (1982,  R)
Blade Runner
The visual look is stunning and it's probably the first science fiction film I truly enjoyed. Quite amazing story as well, it has so many layers.
9
Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992,  R)
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Gary Oldman is pure love in this one, amazing. Having seen the documents about the making progress I can appreciate it even more.
10
Chocolat (2000,  PG-13)
Chocolat
Gorgeous story about a woman who breaks traditions with only one thing : chocolate.
11
Cold Mountain (2003,  R)
Cold Mountain
Gripping and tragic. Love isn't always enough.
12
The Crucible (1996,  PG-13)
The Crucible
"I say God is dead!" Here here, best part. I didn't care about the play much so this was easier because of Ryder's and Day-Lewis' great performances.
13
The Dark Knight (2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
It was worth the watch. It had its flaws but a definite improvement from the previous. Ledger was scary, hilarious, crazy and truly perfect as The Joker.
14
Dear Frankie (2005,  PG-13)
Dear Frankie
Cute little movie about friendship and strangers.
15
Dracula (1931,  Unrated)
Dracula
A bit typically cliched Hollywood flick but I like all the shadows and fairly artistic moments.
16
Dracula's Daughter (1936,  Unrated)
Dracula's Daughter
Gloria Holden was perfect in her role but the movie was average.
17
The English Patient (1996,  R)
The English Patient
Wonderfully epic love story and also remarkable actors. Subplots keep you gripped to the whole redemption of characters.
18
Hair (1979,  PG)
Hair
[edit: I'm adding this to my favourites. I simply can't get it out of my head. Juicy Drew Sarich clips now, please ;) ] Some really memorable songs and great plot included with excellent cast. I recommend watching the French document "Hair, let the sun shine in". It really helps you understand the circumstances where this musical was born and the effects. Really moving.
19
Hard Candy (2006,  R)
Hard Candy
Extremely thought provoking movie that makes you ponder about the motives in each side. Strong work from the two leading actors.
20
House of Dracula (1945,  G)
House of Dracula
Epic fail. Goodbye horror, enter efforts of explaining supernatural with science. The three characters in one movie could have been executed so much better.
21
Immortal Beloved (1994,  R)
Immortal Beloved
Doesn't stand as great as Amadeus but still very good. Passionate performance from Oldman, he truly can portray man's genius.
22
Labyrinth (1986,  PG)
Labyrinth
A fascinating fantasy world with catching music.
23
La Vie en Rose (La Mome) (2007,  PG-13)
La Vie en Rose (La Mome)
I confess not being familiar with Piaf as a person (though I do like some of her songs) but this made me want to learn more. The way the movie was shot was wonderful because it showed only certain moments of her life but not necessarily the best known. One cleverly shot moment in particular moved me into tears but I don't want to give any spoilers.
24
The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King (2003,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King
Amazing end to the trilogy, by far the most beautiful and touching.
25
Moulin Rouge (1952,  Unrated)
Moulin Rouge
I kind of liked this. Ok, the book had more passion and the colours of the movie hurt my eyes not to mention the wooden performance of Herrer but I liked this.
26
Mulholland Drive (2001,  R)
Mulholland Drive
Mind warping and confusing. Most of it went over my head big time but I nevertheless enjoyed it. Because I can imagine myself watching it again and finding something new to think about. Wonderfully surreal.
27
The Nightmare Before Christmas (2008,  PG)
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Amazing art work and set design with wonderful characters.
28
The Omen (1976,  R)
The Omen
Was surprised how creepy this was. I'm only starting to watch the horror movies from this time period so I have a long way to go. Not a disappointment.
29
The Omen (2006,  R)
The Omen
Boring, prefer the original.
30
El Orfanato (The Orphanage) (2007,  R)
El Orfanato (The Orphanage)
A wonderful, chilling story with a heart and well developed characters. See? You can do good in horror genre without screaming teenagers!
31
Paris Je T'aime (2007,  R)
Paris Je T'aime
Heartbreaking, endearing, weird and funny stories centered in Paris. The thing everyone should remember is that overall it's a tribute to the city as much as it is about these particular people. The views are fantastic.
32
The Pianist (2002,  R)
The Pianist
Beautiful story of survival and the horrors of war.
33
The Prestige (2006,  PG-13)
The Prestige
Watched this again recently and liked it more than previously. Strange, but I guess at that time I wasn't in the mood for watching this. Twists and turn were still sometimes quite obvious but the performances were great, Bale's in particular
34
La Reine Margot (Queen Margot) (1994,  R)
La Reine Margot (Queen Margot)
Hauntingly beautiful and amazing actors. Especially Charles, portrayed by Anglade, is - well, crazy to say the least. Heart wrenching ending but because of the gore it may not be for everyone.
35
Rent (2005,  PG-13)
Rent
A few years ago I stumbled upon some Rent songs. I listened to them for a while, they were really good but later they were forgotten for some reason. Then I got the opportunity to see this movie and everything fell into place. I cried my eyes out, fell in love and here we are. Just living like there's no day but today.
36
Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway (2008,  Unrated)
Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway
Well, I'll never be able to see this on Broadway so this is a good consolation. Of course you can never mix a movie and a live performance successively but this comes close enough. Didn't like Justin Johnston but it was still amazing to see this shot at such a close range, the dvd will definitely start to ware out from excessive watching.
37
Requiem for a Dream (2000,  R)
38
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975,  R)
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Not for everyone's sense of humour but I just love it. Hilarious and good music.
39
The Shawshank Redemption (1994,  R)
The Shawshank Redemption
The best movie ever made? Hardly, in that sense a bit overrated. It's still great though, I just happen to prefer Green Mile out of the two prison stories.
40
The Seventh Seal (Det Sjunde inseglet) (1957,  Unrated)
41
Son of Dracula (,  R)
Son of Dracula
Liked Chaney's performance but it wasn't enough to carry this another weak sequel of Dracula. The scene where the count moves across the swamp is pretty nice.
42
Spider (2002,  R)
Spider
For the first time you watch this it may seem slow and a little pointless but actually it is woven with accuracy of spider webs. Fiennes is phenomenal from which he unfortunately hasn't got any recognition. Exploring the minor details is recommended.
43
La Strada (The Road) (1954,  PG)
La Strada (The Road)
My heart sank at the end. A beautiful and simple story with so many wonderful scenes, most favourites are with Basehart.
44
Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005,  G)
Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
Hilarious puns and innuendo and a fantastic story.
45
Wallace and Gromit in 'A Matter of Loaf and Death' (2008,  Unrated)
Wallace and Gromit in 'A Matter of Loaf and Death'
Not nearly as brilliant as Were-Rabbit which I enjoyed tremendously. A very simple plot and short, not much new ideas.
46
Wuthering Heights (1939,  G)
Wuthering Heights
The more time goes by the more I think this version is too sappy. Sure, the two lovers were meant to be together but why put aside the cruelty of Heathcliff. Too tame...
