Mrs. Doubtfire (1993,  PG-13)
Mrs. Doubtfire 5.0 Stars
Robin Williams plays a fantastic part in a classic film. The rest of the cast is great too and the plot is quite sensational as it deals with the very tricky topic of divorce and makes it hilarious yet moving. The screenplay is also superb including an epilogue which sums up divorce better than anything I've ever heard.

Probably the slickest film ever made with hilarious sections. The cast and acting are cream of the crop and the storyline is a brilliant one that keeps you guessing all the time.

Kramer vs. Kramer (1979,  PG)
Kramer vs. Kramer 5.0 Stars
A superbly realistic story that touches you because of the strength of Dustin Hoffman's acting. He takes a seemingly ordinary role and makes it brilliantly orignial. Meryl Streep is very good too as was Justin Henry and the plot was as superb as the acting.

American History X (1998,  R)
American History X 5.0 Stars
A brilliant film! Yet another must-see with Edward Norton as the star. He is absolutely superb and has a very good supporting cast backing him up, particularly Edward Furlong. Guy Torry also deserves a mention as he provides comic relief in an otherwise serious film. The plot is excellent and every character is written perfectly.

Pulp Fiction (1994,  R)
Pulp Fiction 5.0 Stars
A film of complete genius. Quentin Tarantino's greatest film has a plot that moves from story to story so smoothly it's a joy to watch. The acting is first rate and the memorable quotes rival that of the Bible's! It's also hilarious in places and is, in short, simply divine.

About a Boy (2002,  PG-13)
About a Boy 5.0 Stars
Hugh Grant's best film by far. He shows that he is not just a chick flick dick. Granted, this could be seen as a bit of a chick flick but if it is then it is a damn good one! Hugh Grant's character, Will, is brilliantly real and someone I could really relate too. Very amusing throughout makes this very special for its genre and a must-see.

The Matrix (1999,  R)
The Matrix 5.0 Stars
A revoultionary film filled with action and intelligent plot. The unique brilliance is so powerfully compelling that it allows you to look beyond Reeves' bad acting. Laurence Fishburne is great but Hugo Weaving steals the show as the cold, calculating Agent Smith. His chilling voice and constant reference to Neo as "Mr Anderson" are hugely entertaining and put this film right at the top.

Back to the Future Part II 5.0 Stars
A fantastic sequel that is even better than part one! It deals with the present, past and future which makes it have an edge over the first and is a joy to watch as the complex yet easy to follow storyline unfolds.

Gulliver's Travels (1996,  PG)
Gulliver's Travels 5.0 Stars
One of few adaptations I would say was better than the book. Where the book is long, drawn out and difficult to read, this film is exciting, enjoyable and easy to follow. Each of Lemuel Gulliver's travels is as brilliant as each other with an astounding range of characters introduced and great acting all round. Ted Danson is particularly superb in both present times and flashbacks but his American accent is a little odd for someone claiming to be an Englishman! That is the masterpiece's only flaw, however, and it sparkles with creativity and great writing.

Phone Booth (2003,  R)
Phone Booth 5.0 Stars
A phenomenal film! The way it created so much atmosphere in such a small space was unique. Colin Farrell was great but it's Kiefer Sutherland who really steals the show. His cool voice and controlling demeanour make his character a joy to observe - or rather hear. The storyline is exhilarating and interesting and will keep you hooked right through. See it, experience it!

One of the best psychological thrillers I've ever seen. The storyline is intriguing at first and it only gets more so as you discover that this is indeed, as Clive Owen suggests, the perfect bank robbery. The cast is brilliant too.

Austin Powers - International Man of Mystery 5.0 Stars
A stroke of comic genius from Mike Myers and his two equally hilarious characters. The other characters are brilliant too, though, and Will Ferrell's cameo role is very much appreciated. Elizabeth Hurley is good too. The mockery of James Bond is something very unique and works brilliantly. A rare must-see comedy.

Sliding Doors 5.0 Stars
I thought Gwyneth Paltrow's English accent was great, despite some critics' opinions, and she was really good. John Lynch was great too as was his friend, Douglas McFerran, but the real shining star was John Hannah who was hilarious and brilliant when being serious too. The plot was unique and a fascinating look at fate.

Superman Returns (2006,  PG-13)
Superman Returns 4.0 Stars
I saw this at the I-Max and the 3-D scenes were incredible (particularly the best scene in the film where Superman wrestles with the plane!) There were some other truly amazing moments too (like when Superman has a bullet shot into his eye!) A beautiful film with some of the greatest special effects I've ever seen. And Kevin Spacey's performance is utterly fabulous; much better than Gene Hackman's in the original. I prefer Dein Cain's portrayal of Superman, however, as his character has more depth than Brandon Routh's.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991,  R)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day 5.0 Stars
An amazing film with the greatest special effects ever used in any film. They retain their wow-factor even by today's standards, despite the lack of technology in 1991. The evil robot is at the centre of these remarkable camera tricks and Robert Patrick plays one of the best villains of all time. Arnie is pretty cool too but it's not his film. Unfortunately, the film is slightly marred by the highly irritating Linda Hamilton but, fortunately, the Terminators drown her out.

Ocean's Twelve 4.0 Stars
Maybe not as good as the first one but it had an even better cast, some great moments and the chemistry between the actors is still as sharp as ever (especially evident in George Clooney and Brad Pitt). The plot was the difference between this and 11 because 11's was more well crafted but this film was still clever and well written.

Alfie (1966,  PG)
Alfie 3.0 Stars
Unlike most people, I believe the remake is actually better than this film. Michael Caine is absolutely magnificent and just as good as Jude Law but the storyline of this Alfie is surprisingly different and not nearly as entertaining as the modern one. Still definitely worth watching for Michael Caine's very different, very cold approach to the character.

A slick, very witty story with some great acting in it. Jude Law is obviously the star of the show and acts as a loveable, yet flawed narrator. His cool looks into the camera are great and very funny. The moral at the end is really good and in all, a thoroughly good watch.
