A Christmas Story (1983, PG)
"A Christmas Story" is the best Christmas movie that I've ever watched in my lifetime, and I can owe it to the excellent narration of Christmas in the late 1940s. (Yes, although this movie was released in 1983, it took place in the late 1940s.) The young narrator begs his parents to give him a BB gun, but he was warned that getting a gun as a gift would "shoot your eye out", which is the movie's most memorable quote. Oh, and there's also the "Ohhh....fudge!" line, which sounds like the character said the mother of all dirty words- "the F-dash-dash-dash word" (although this was not uttered, thank goodness). I definitely love the scene with the family received a lamp that looked like a woman's leg; when the dad saw the crate with FRAGILE printed, he pronounced it as "Frah-gil-lay" (which sounds like an Italian name). Ahahahahaha....the correct pronunciation of that word is "Frah-geel"! Not only that "A Christmas Story" is interesting because of its historical setting, but it's because it's sometimes funny. Anyways....it's a great movie, and I give it 4 1/2 stars. |

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989, PG-13)
I'd find this film title that made a real Christmas vacation better. After conquering Walley World ("Vacation") and Europe ("European Vacation"), the Griswolds now prepare for the season in "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation". In the middle of annoying family guests coming over, Clark manages to keep going knowing that his Christmas bonus is due soon. It's cool to see the accidental holiday mishaps that made me laugh off, including the blinking 25,000 lights brightening the home, the electrocuted cat, and the burning of the Christmas tree. How about that badly cooked turkey, too? I find that hilarious. The animated opening preceding the Griswold scenes is nicely drawn on cel, which is great to open a great holiday story. |

Christmas with the Kranks (2004, PG)
Skipping Christmas is something that nobody can try, and it happened in "Christmas With The Kranks". I watched this movie, followed along with the plot, and learned that Luther (Tim Allen) and Nora Krank (Jamie Lee Curtis) were going to skip 12/25 by saving their X-Mas money on a Caribbean cruise. The whole neighborhood finds out, so the Kranks and their neighbors battle their wits to threaten the X-Mas spirit....until Luther and Nora get a call from their daughter Blair that she's coming home. This leads the Kranks and their neighbors to get back to their Christmas spirit. What a great story, so if you anyone out there is going to skip 12/25, watch "Christmas With The Kranks", and go back celebrating the holiday with your high spirits, okay? I give this movie four X-Mas stars! |

Elf (2003, PG)
As what the movie poster for "Elf" says, this holiday, discover your inner elf. I watched "Elf" recently and found Buddy in the North Pole, where he is sent by Santa's toy bag and raised by elves, and in New York City, where he searches for his real family- a Scrooge-like father and a cynical stepbrother who doesn't believe in Santa. When NYC lacks Christmas spirit, Buddy must save the holiday season with Santa Claus. This is a great and funny Christmas movie that contributes to Will Ferrell's acting abilities that no one shouldn't miss, especially how he eats spaghetti with maple syrup. Mmmm....spaghetti with maple syrup.... So people, if you want to be good during the holidays, don't pout, don't shout, don't cry, and watch "Elf" because I'm tellling you why....Santa Claus is coming to town. The real SC who rides on his sleigh, that is, not the department store SC whom Buddy had a fight with because he's fake. I give "Elf" four stars! |

Home Alone (1990, PG)
"Home Alone" shows the best depiction in a movie of what it's like for a young boy whose parents accidentally left him home alone during Christmas and then face two intruding burglars. It's Macaulay Culkin's first big movie role (if it is his first, I think), so nobody should miss the best acting performance from a former child star. |

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992, PG)
First, in "Home Alone", Macaulay Culkin's character was accidentally left home alone by parents who take a holiday vacation, and now, in "Home Alone 2 - Lost In New York", he takes the wrong plane to New York while his family take another plane to somewhere else. He then faces the two villains whom he faced in an attempted burglary before! Whoa....this was a great movie! |

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964, PG)
I understand the film title is Santa Claus Conquers The Martians, but these aliens will have to kidnap the jolly old man first. No one on Mars is receiving presents on the holidays so when the kids are glued to the TV set showing Earth programs the plan is carried out. And coming along with Santa are two Earth kids "vanished into thin air" before Christmas Eve. This is another case of cheesy campfest I've ever watched, and the opening and closing song is somewhat the corniest tune I've ever heard in such film. If the studio sets here are too cheap to produce, so is the budget. My verdict? I actually like this campfest. |
