Essential Made for TV

Some movies are too epic or too little to be put on the big screen, but occasionally one of these films makes a huge impact on me. The only missing film here is 'Band of Brothers,' and why Flixster will embrace these films and reject the inclusion of the masterpiece of our time is beyond me.

Lonesome Dove
This movie made me love epics and movies in general. One of the truly great films.

12 Angry Men (1997,  PG-13)
12 Angry Men
A magnificent updating of Lumet's classic. Filled with all of the same emotion and tension, with an all-star cast that brings many of the issues and prejudices into a contemporary light.
4
Flight 93 (2005,  PG-13)
Flight 93
A very impressive, intensely emotional movie. Granted it is made-for-TV, so the screenplay and cinematography are a little weak, but this one will rock your world.

It is also made and handled with enough respect that you feel a sense of growth from the material, and a deep connection to the bravery of these heroic individuals.

Watch this back to back with United 93, and you will have a beautiful portrait of every aspect of that harrowing day.
