De Tweeling (Twin Sisters) (2005,  R)
De Tweeling (Twin Sisters)
Based on the Dutch bestseller novel written by Tessa de Loo, the Oscar nominated "De Tweeling" is a magnificent movie. The dramatic story of these twin sisters, forced to a separation in their childhood, and following parallel lives due to WW2, is very sad, but never boring. I felt very sorry for the suffered character of Anna, and in the end I was sad with this touching and sensitive movie. Ben Sombogaard did a great job in shooting this movie of a popular Dutch book. The confusions and drama between the two sisters are the most important storyline. The war is only background. The performance of the unknown cast is amazing and this movie is a must-see. My vote is 5 stars.

Downfall (Der Untergang) (2004,  R)
Downfall (Der Untergang)
Der Untergang' is another good WW2 movie I've seen, which deals withreal facts of the war. Bruno Ganz is truly excellent in his role as Adolf Hitler, a tired man who sees his "Reich" fall, but cannot accept it. Overall casting is very good; all the actors chosen to portray a famous character look a lot like the real deal. Although the film was 2,5 hours I felt it passed very quickly due to excellent acting, great sets, actions and storyline. Somehow, every scene is dripping with tension that never really explodes. It seems that ordinary people commit astonishing acts and sins towards mankind, just for their faith and loyalty to one man, Hitler, who himself walks the edge of reason.

Marvelous......

The Lover (1992,  R)
The Lover
The sex scenes are indeed graphic, but by no means done in bad taste or just for the sake of sex. The film is much more than about lust, it is about two lovers who found refuge in each others arms. Jane March and Tony Leung gave great performances, showing the conflict of emotions that they had to endure. Beautifully paced storyline with great atmosphere and soundtrack. It will make this a worthwhile movie experience.
Very highly recommended.

Turtles Can Fly (Lakposhtha hâm parvaz mikonand) (2005,  PG-13)
Turtles Can Fly (Lakposhtha hâm parvaz mikonand)
Set in Ghobadi's native Kurdistan, close to the Turkey-Iran border. Soran is a 13-year-old boy who orders other children around as he installs an antenna for villagers keen to hear of Saddam's fall. Eventually, he falls for Agrin but is disturbed by her brother Henkov, who was left armless after he stepped on a landmine and who can now seemingly predict the future.

Photobucket

In this movie we are shown the impact that war has on those who are most innocent of all, the children. The orphaned children are a range of interesting characters presented to us here, from Satellite, a tv programmer to Pashow, an armless but still determined boy. The supporting children are shown as bright eyed watchers of war, eagerly awaiting it so that they can try their hand at the missiles, which, at first sounds amusing, but then it goes into something much more horrific, as we follow their adventures through rough camera-work and improvised dialogue.

The performances delivered by the children are simply amazing. In the lead, Soran Ebrahim is a boy full of energy, and he grasp my heart, and makes the heart wrenching part of the movie.

In a completely different role, Avaz Latif is the movie's heartbreak, and the one that endures the worst. Her performance is wordless, but she manages to portray all her deepest emotions through a look or gesture. When we look deeper into the plot to realize exactly how much her character has suffered, it is then that the horror of war kicks in.

Turtles Can Fly is not one for the easily depressed. After watching it, I was in tears for several minutes, helpless and wishing that something could be done about the constant loss of innocence. Turtles is a film that speaks for itself; no advertising needed.

Hunger (2009,  Unrated)
Hunger
The story of Bobby Sands takes about half way into the film. The most dialogue in the films occurs during the scenes between Sands and his priest. Unfortunately the Irish accents are thick, but I understood what its all about. The final scenes in the film are tough to watch as we witness Sands' slowly dying of starvation. It is hard to imagine anyone throwing themselves to such suffering. Fassbender is very good in the role, giving us a character that is perfect in his choices and beliefs. He believes his suffering serves a purpose, and though some may disagree with his choices, one can't help but admire his conviction.

Im still speechless.

A Good Woman (2006,  PG)
A Good Woman
One of Oscar Wilde's most popular plays is given a new screen interpretation in this period comedy. In New York in the early '30s, Mrs. Erlynne (Helen Hunt) is a widow who lives comfortably through the largest of several married men, and when she runs out of wealthy suitors in Manhattan, she decides to find greener pastures among the wealthy elite of Italy's Amalfi coast. Mrs. Erlynne sets her sights on Robert Windermere (Mark Umbers), a wealthy Englishman who is married to the young, innocent and very beautiful Meg (Scarlett Johansson). Mrs. Erlynne gingerly tries to separate Robert from his wife and his money, fueling suspicions within Amalfi society as well as the audience that they are involved. Humiliated and ready to beat him at his own game, Meg begins to consider the advances of the handsome Lord Darlington (Stephen Campbell Moore), one of her husband's close friends. In the midst of all the attempted infidelity, the genially eccentric Tuppy (Tom Wilkinson) struggles to win Mrs. Erlynne's hand, while only one of the interconnected parties know that she carries a shocking secret.

One more of the truly entertaining films I have seen in a long time. I feel this is what true film making and entertainment should aspire to achieve. The performances were amazing and well directed. This film made me feel something in my heart. There are some unforgettable quotes. like : "Every saint has a past. Every sinner has a future."
Photobucket

Helen Hunt gets into the skin of that marked woman that's the epicenter of tons of rumors and gossip. A free soul in a society that's full of hypocrisy and lies. As for Scarlett Johansson, she's the innocent and young wife that wakes up to that world of lies. There's a big secret between them? Every line of Wilde is like a bullet, every look of Mrs. Hunt is like a thousand lives, every curve of Johansson's body is a mortal sin?!! ( so guys, wht are u waiting for ?)

The Duchess (2008,  PG-13)
The Duchess
The Dutchess is a compelling true story of a world filled with smolderring passion, heartbeaking deception and demands. Duchess was beloved by her nation, but betrayed by her husband, she must face agonizing choice between responsibility and love.

After watching the Duchess, I thanked God I was born in this century, cause the way woman were treated in centuries before, there was no word for it. The movie is perfectly cast by the British top actors, Keira did a great job in potraiting this character, was not easy, Im sure was not easy for her, but its a movie that let you get anger, but at the same time you can enjoy also, cause the movie itself is so damn beautiful, I really recommend all my Flixster friend to watch this, definitely 5 stars, perfect !!!

Love in the Time of Cholera (2007,  R)
Love in the Time of Cholera
In the Tropics of South America, Colombia, an innocent desire blossom in to a romance of this beautifull novel. Florentino Ariza magistral performed by Academy winner Javier Bardem, spots the beautifull Fermina Daza, played by Giovanna Mezogiorno, and they fell inmediately in love. Denied by her father, Florentino refuses to give up the love of his life, even if tht means waiting decades to fill the passion of his heart.
Javier Bardem
Love in the time of Cholera, is a novel written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Colombian novel writer. He was born in arataca, nothern region of Colombia, I believe many of you have not even heard of this man before, but he has written so many novels, tht has brought him to win Nobel Prize in litherature. Many of his novels were filmed, but this one particular was such a beautiful one, full of emotions and love.
love in...
The movie itself describes the love of a man, who has waited so many years to be with the woman of his life, and thts why the question "how long would you wait for love"? Fans of romatic drama will adore this movie, just let you yourself get lost into this movie, I have no words for this, otherwise I will fill in pages, of wht I found of this whole movie, the cast consist actors like Benjamin Bratt, John Leguizamo and Hector Elizondo, simply great cast iincredible, Just watch it, and share afterwards it with me,

The Sea Inside (Mar Adentro) (The Sea Within) (2004,  PG-13)
The Sea Inside (Mar Adentro) (The Sea Within)
Based on the profundly moving true story that captured the worlds attention about Euthanasy. Sea inside is a true story about Ramon Sampedro, who fought a 30 year campaign to win the right to end his life with dignity.

well, after watching this movie, I cant rate it 10 stars, cuz Flixster rating goes till 5. Otherwise I could have rate it 10. This is a movie that when you see it, you realize how lucky you are and how happy you should be and how thankful you must be for the live you have now. If you see the life tht Ramon has lived during all those years, than you will realise, that Euthansy is a topic to discuss. But peoples life is something tht you as owner of your life can decide of it. I think Euthanasy is for some people a taboo and for some a easy way out. But its personally. And I have not the right to judge about that.
The movie is so deeply emotional, drama fans who can afford such a profound commotion then I recommend you to watch it. The movie is a perfect movie based on a true story, was worhty to win the academy award for best foreigner movie in 2004.
Well I have to say see this movie, its worthy, I will watch it one more time and I will buy it for my collection. No doubt about it.
I have to say it again, thanks Hun, for one more of your best recommendations, what will I do without you? Watch bad movies I guess, Thanks.

Pride and Prejudice (2005,  PG)
12
Brideshead Revisited (2008,  PG-13)
Brideshead Revisited
Evelyn Waugh's classic novel of love and the British class system has been given a polished screen adaptation in this film version from director Julian Jarrold. Charles Ryder (Matthew Goode) was raised in a middle-class household and though he's never known want and is fortunate enough to have been accepted into Oxford, the life of the upper class is foreign to him. While serving in the British Army during the waning days of World War II, Charles is assigned to a temporary base set up on the estate of the wealthy and aristocratic Flyte family, where he strikes up a friendship with twentysomething Lord Sebastian (Ben Whishaw). Sebastian enjoys the pleasures his privileged life has afforded him, but he also senses that something is missing, and he tries to drown his frequent episodes of depression in alcohol. Charles is captivated by the splendor of Sebastian's life, and he finds himself drawn into a web of decadent comfort, while also developing an infatuation with Sebastian's sister, Julia (Hayley Atwell), even as Charles senses his relationship with Sebastian is something deeper than simple friendship. The idyllic days at the Flyte estate come to an end with the arrival of Sebastian's mother, Lady Marchmain (Emma Thompson), a fierce Catholic who objects to her son's free and easy life and has become increasingly bitter since her husband, Lord Marchmain (Michael Gambon), has left her to live in Italy with the lovely Cara (Greta Scacchi).

Photobucket

The plot of the film involves the attraction of Charles to both Julia and Sebastian, the importance of art in a world of rich, and--in this movie--the effects of intense faith.

Charles has a genuine desire to be an artist, but that's the only positive attribute that we see. Sebastian is drunk most of the time, and cynical whether drunk of sober. Julia is attractive, especially in the early scenes.

Emma Thompson is, as always, fascinating to watch and to hear. However, the character she plays is rigid, cold., and fanatical, so there is no way you can like or admire her in this movie.

If you like British tales of class and religion, or period films, this one is not a letdown. It is nothing new, but nothing terrible either. I recommend it if this is your sort of thing, (atonement) the other Boleyn girl)? then you will like this.

Broken English (2007,  PG-13)
Broken English
Nora Wilder (Parker Posey), a single woman, is heading deep into the doldrums as a result of disappointments in her professional and personal lives. A series of disastrous dates convinces her that love will always elude her. At a co-worker's party , she meets Julien (Melvil Poupaud), a young man from Paris, who sweeps her off her feet and invites her to France with him. Nora refuses, then wonders if she has made the biggest mistake of her life.
Photobucket

Parker Posey is an amazing actress and was able to carry this movie with some real hard to swallow details. Being lonely, being scared what people think, being scared that you come off as desperate, all of these problems and more are dealt with in a really sweet but thought-provoking way in this movie.

I enjoyed the characters a lot and though the ending was kind of a romance cliché, it was pleasing.

I loved the character of Nora, and I liked how the movie was subtle and truthful about relationships. I think the humor lied in the honesty of being alone and wanting so bad to find that right person, but knowing that there are problems you have to deal with in yourself before its a good time to fall in love.

In summation, it's a good movie about finding love even when you feel extremely anxious and worried about love. Falling in love with a guy 10 or more years younger than you its quite a challenge, only you have to stand with both feet on the ground, specially if you have been through different relationships, or something like that. I would see this movie it if I were you.

Directed by Zoe Casaavettes, sister of Nick Cassavettes, who directed The NoteBook, Mom Gena Rowlands is once again in the movie, its runs in the family, the romantic blood. Cool movie

Nothing Is Private (Towelhead) (2007,  R)
Nothing Is Private (Towelhead)
Jasira Maroun is 13, physically well developed but naïeve and unable to say no. As puberty arrives, her mother sends her from Syracuse to Houston to her Lebanese-born father. Over the next few months, Jasira must navigate her father's strict indifference, her discovery of sexual pleasure, the casual racism of a neighbor boy, the sexual advances of the boy's father, the friendship of a pregnant neighbor, and her attraction to Thomas, an African-American classmate whom her father forbids her to see. Things happen to her, but can she take responsibility and control, or is tragedy inevitable?

The story is as a young girl begins to experience the reality of life growing up in the suburbs of America. The cast is superb, the young actor, Summer Bishil, is tremendous in her role, and the film and story of a young girl wanting to be accepted for who she is, but instead has to face incidents which would mark a young girl for the rest of her life.
Photobucket
Summer Bishil is heartbreaking and believable as young Jashira, while Peter Macdissi infuses both a sense of menace and a strangely offbeat humor into the role of her hardnosed father. Toni Collete is the older woman who takes Jasira under her wing, offering her the kind of guidance her actual parents seem unable to provide for her. As the neighbor who seduces Jasira, Aaron Eckhart brings a great deal of courage, to accept one of the trickiest roles imaginable for an actor. Eckhart is obviously secure in the conviction that the audience will be mature enough to see the humanity in his character even while feeling disgust at his actions. ( he has the balls to accept this role).

This film is a great exploration of how parents and adults mess with their children heads, as a graphic portrayal of an adolescents coming to terms with her sexuality. Excellent performances, great script and an overall brilliant film. I love this film.

Hable con Ella (Talk to Her)
Marco, a journalist grieving for a love affair that ended ten years' ago, falls in love with Lydia, a bullfighter also on the rebound. Benigno, a nurse, dedicates his life to his only patient, a young dancer in a coma as a result of an accident four years' before; he talks to her, reads to her, holds photographs in front of her closed eyes. When Lydia is brought comatose to the hospital where Benigno works, he and Marco become friendly, and the encourages Marco to talk to her and hope for a miracle.
Photobucket
In guess there are few filmmakers who can tell such a beautiful and sad story as Almodovar does here in Talk to Her. And only he can create such a surreal world that pulls us in and shows us the beauty and subject of love. I was all lost in this movie, and I felt so much anger, anger on how someone could have done this act to a person in coma. Almodovar has proved just how much a master he has become in the total craft of film-making. ( and I did not know his work before this movie) But I have some great movie teachers, so in no way I can't complain.

The writer has created characters that touch us very deep and although we see and hear so little, the director has managed to craft their world in such a way as we see what they see and therefore through their relationships, see who they are. I liked that in the movie.

The sensual nature of the film and Almodovar's ability to play with the beauty of the body and the strange intimacy of the characters work to perfection. This will be considered one of the great films I have ever seen,

Head-On (Gegen die Wand) (2005,  R)
Head-On (Gegen die Wand)
Cahit is a German Turk in his 40's. He has given up with his life after his beloved wife's death, and he's living a miserable life right in the core of cocaine and excessive drinking. One night, he semi-intentionally crashes into a wall, and barely survives. At the hospital he's taken to, he meets a girl, Sibel, another German Turk who's tried to commit suicide. She's sick and tired of her family's ultra-traditional issues, and asks Cahit to carry out a white marriage with her out of the blue, so that she can become a married woman and get rid of her family's revolting pressure. Cahit is turned off by the idea at first, but then he agrees to take part in this plan. As Sibel tells him straightaway that she's interested in absolute freedom involving other men and he agrees, they live as roommates with separate private lives for a while. Then things take a different turn, and they're no longer two indifferent roommates. But their love story won't be anywhere as simple as any other
Photobucket

I expected a typical immigrant drama from this one, but fortunately, the movie proved out to be a lot more than that. Gegen die Wand is the story of a man who loses faith in everything (love, God, nationality, and ultimately life itself), only to regain it in unusual circumstances. If that sounds cheesy, well, it is anything but that.

The movie's real power lies with the fact that the characters are experiencing conflicting emotions and desires and ultimately it is their incapacity to understand what is happening to them which leads to their downfall. They are so used to suffering and struggling. When suddenly they fall in love, they can't even recognize what is happening to them until it is too late.

This is a very beautiful movie. It's beautifully shot, and the combination of western and Turkish music fits the images very well and adds tremendously to the atmosphere. There are even some interludes of a Turkish orchestra, playing on the shores with the Aya Sofia mosque in the background. Breath taking

The Children of Heaven (Bacheha-Ye aseman) (1999,  PG)
The Children of Heaven (Bacheha-Ye aseman)
Two fearful children (Amir Farrokh Hashemian, Bahare Sediqi) look for a pair of missing shoes, then try to get another pair before their parents discover the loss. Zahra's shoes are lost; her older brother Ali lost them. They are poor, there are no shoes for Zahra until they come up with an idea: they will share one pair of shoes,
Photobucket

The two young actors are amazing, they play their sensitivity very convincing. Ali, the 9 year old brother, who really carried the film through, and the younger sister Zahra, who contributed her restrained share of screen presence. The pair is so natural: those innocent faces, the range of sad faces the two came up with! The bond between the brother and sister is so warm and joyful.

The storyline is simple. Such a good writer-director Majid Majidi is, I did not know him before this, but to come up with such a lovely story, I have no words for this. He can make chasing along a streaming gutter into an intense dramatic episode. And he doesn't have to tell it all on the screen, the little nuances and observations are enough.

It's heartening to see young children who are polite and respectful to their parents, responsible and caring in dealing with their everyday problems, and not giving up. Such quiet attitude, in spite of disappointments, such tolerance of their circumstance yet still able to find joy in little things. We catch a smile here and there, when they enjoy the soap bubbles, or when he encouraged his sister by giving her small gifts.

This is an absolute jewel of a family film. Children's emotions, adults are not left out, the parents, the elderly couple next door, the shop-owners, all made this movie very real.

What impressed me so much is the dialogue, which was complete in Farsi, it's sounds so beautiful, I had English subtitles, but still it sounds so melodious in my ears.

M. Butterfly (1993,  R)
M. Butterfly
One of David Cronenburg's best,M.Butterfly, is based on a true story. John Lone is awesome as madame butterfly and Jeremy Irons is in his usual cold, upper class self role. I simply enjoyed this gentleman on screen. Perfect casting for a director filming a moving story of love and loss.

For those who love this story itself, you will definitely agree how this movie perfectly described a story which tells " only in real life could love become so unreal."

Also this is a good movie to watch if you are interested in the type of movie which entangle east and west, love and betrayal, passion and illusion...
Highly recommending..

Le Scaphandre et le Papillon (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) (2007,  PG-13)
Le Scaphandre et le Papillon (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly)
I was worried that it would be a depressing movie, but I was pleasantly surprised by how absorbing and moving it was. The opening scenes are striking, and communicate well the main character's feelings helplessness in the immediate aftermath of his accident, but as he attempts to rebuild his life and learn how to communicate, the film opens up, even making room for some welcome flashes of humor. Performances are excellent, but the real stars here are the writer(s) and director, for taking us so convincingly into the character's world.

Dead Ringers (1988,  R)
Dead Ringers
Dead Ringers is a slow stone cold movie. In a brilliant style, David Cronenberg tells the story without any form of emotion or sympathy for the brothers. In an unexplainable way, the cold and objective view is what makes this movie so terrifying. Along with the outstanding performance by Jeremy Irons. He really succeeds in making both of his characters go through insanity.

Dead Ringers is one of those movies almost impossible to judge. Half of the time what you see is brilliant and the other half has been confusing me a lot. A psychological thriller in its purest form!

And Now... Ladies and Gentlemen (2003,  PG-13)
And Now... Ladies and Gentlemen
The acting by the cast in "and now... ladies and gentlemen" - both by great actors like Jeremy Irons, as well as others, like Patricia Kaas a famous Jazz singer, is beautiful, very deeply felt.
I was moved by the expression in these two actor's eyes. But one mustn't consider and rate acting by itself in Lelouch movies, which I was not familiar with, but it is the unity of all skills and feelings that make his work so profound. The acting, directing, photography, music... they make up the story.

This movie is filled with illusions, and incredible photographic beauty, specially the ones in Morocco. A must to see.

somehow the Morocco inspector reminds me of the TV serie Inspector Colombo, (funny)

Efter brylluppet (After the Wedding)
The film is like a jigsaw puzzle that has been started but not completed. As the story progresses, pieces are added to the puzzle one at a time.
It is a little slow some times. It is a movie that you can see at any time. The plot seems to come out late, which I think is a great idea and gives the film some style. You don't really know what is to happen and where the film will take place at all.

Mads Mikkelsen has great presence on screen, I loved him in Casino Royale. He is just marvelous in this movie.

Oorlogswinter (Winter in Wartime)
Oorlogswinter is a very, very special movie around the themes war, love, trust, friendship from the point of view of a 14-year old Dutch teenager in the last winter of World War 2.

Beautiful cold winter-setting with lots of snow and original landscapes; - fantastic music , I loved the music in the movie, unbelievable beautiful.

The script has been adjusted very well for the screen, with a suspenseful storyline and depth characters. The performances of Martijn Lakemeijer (Michiel) and Jamie Campbell Bower (Jack) really stand out. For Dutch standards it's produced in very high quality, with great photography and a incredible score. I recommend this movie highly to anyone, especially those who are interested in war stories.

Le Silence de Lorna (The Silence of Lorna) (Lorna's Silence)
After seeing Rosetta, I was kinda disappointed with that movie from the Dardennes brothers and it was not my favorite. Now Le Silence of Lorna is their latest and I decided to give it a try, and I was happy I did.

The story was fairly interesting, complex and well written. The way it was directed and the psychological darkness of this movie will leave some people guessing the motivations and the reasons why the main characters do what they do.

The protagonist is brilliantly portrayed by Arta Dobroshi.I dont know her before. But once again, her interpretation of her character was so depressed and real. On the other side, that is what makes it just interesting from a point of view.

This movie is the journey of a woman in a very particular situation. It's a tragedy. Very good. Worth to watch !!

The French Lieutenant's Woman (1981,  R)
The French Lieutenant's Woman
Fantastic performance from Jeremy Irons, and of course Meryl Streep is flawless. 1981's interpretation of a period piece, contrasted with '81 present day. I became a huge fan of 70s and more early 80s movies, for quality movies - slower pace, more left to the viewer to discover. Brilliant. If you like period pieces and amazing acting, you will like this.

Breaking the Waves
As I watched this film, I wasn't quite sure what period this was set in, where it was, or what exactly was wrong with Bess. Was she nuts? Was she just a bit slow? Was she simply depressed by the religious passion of her town and family?I s this all for a man? Common..
I watched the whole thing with a skeptical eye. Von Trier's style of filming ( hand-held cameras) makes it look like a film from the early 70's) and it irritated me on some level, but then I loved the "chapter breaks" with the striking view of landscape and accompanied by pop music (from the 70's). Great music of Elton John Led Zeppellin etc..

Nice movie, though, still I have my own opinion about this all,

9 songs (2005,  Unrated)
9 songs
What was so annoying about 9 songs, there was no story line. The movie was all about flashbacks, they don't make a story line; so the movie doesn't go anywhere and you don't learn anything about them. Matt is remembering the best times of the relationship; and that is when he was having sex with Lisa and when they attended the concerts.

I would say 9 songs is one of the most sexually explicit movie of this time. As this does have real sex scenes. But though having real sex scenes, it is not a pornographic movie. Some time in the sex scenes, what we saw was extreme close ups of the faces or other part of their body. With this style of filming, the sex scenes aren't that real, but there was lot of nudity. In the last part of the movie we saw the real thing.

You could watch this to gain insight how real relationships are and take a break from the Hollywood norm.

Five Minutes of Heaven (2009,  Unrated)
Five Minutes of Heaven
In 'Five Minutes of Heaven', James Nesbitt plays the younger brother of a man murdered by Liam Neeson, who is from a loyalist group. The centerpiece of the film is the preparation of a face to face meeting, the first, between victim's relative and murderer, staged by a TV channel.

Liam Neeson is also very good in the role and is convincing as a man who regrets his past but tries to explain it without justifying it. The drama does not end here but I will. Watch it for yourself, it is an intense, play of terrorism of what happen in Northern Ireland.

The Fourth Angel (The 4th Angel) (2003,  R)
The Fourth Angel (The 4th Angel)
The Fourth Angel is quite ok and it has two very good role performed excellently by Jeremy Irons and Forest Whitaker! The story is good the things in it allows Irons to do a lot. There were some flaws in the movie, like the scene of the hijjacking, was not so convincing, people were sitting too quiet and relax in the chairs. The music is pretty good and it fits the film very well! The scenes when Irons and Whitaker are together really makes the film good and Whitaker does a very good job here.He is really a superb actor. Plus I like to see two unusual actors together in a film and see how they can make it interesting.

Another the part I didn't like is the hunting scene. Other than this is a decent film! If you want to see Jeremy Irons and Forest Whitaker kicking some asses, than watch The Fourth Angel!

Turks Fruit (Turkish Delight) (The Sensualist) (Wild Intent) (1973,  R)
Turks Fruit (Turkish Delight) (The Sensualist) (Wild Intent)
This is a very intense movie about love, hate, life and death with a lot of symbolism and realism at the same time. The plot is located in the early 70ies in Amsterdam and features Monique van der Ven and Rutger Hauer who give a really great performance. The supporting actors are also very well chosen, and Paul Verhoeven as the director, there are no words for, Marvelous.

It is one of the best European films I've ever seen till now. Funny, realistic and, this film is so catchy that you don't even notice the time passing by. Rutger Hauer is in one of his first roles here, and appears in the nude almost all the time. Many will enjoy... I did !!

Its a good film however the message this film makes is very disturbing, especially the way the film ends. When she doesn't die in the 2 months she was told she visits her doctor again only to find out that she has miraculously been cured. Her cancer has gone into remission and she is no longer sick and no longer dying and here in lies the saddest part about this films message, as the doctors attributes her miraculous recovery to the way she lived the last couple months and the changes she made. In other words shopping & learning the guitar saved her life. (hilarious) sorry!!
I have so many problems with this that I really wouldn't even know where to begin to describe it. ( so I better not)

Final verdict: thumbs down. Even if you don't share my guitar arrogancy ,
I don't think the film has much to offer beyond a decent performance from Burrows. ( I bet the guys would love to watch her all naked in the film) lol and the sex scenes were pretty good. (loved them).!!
It's pretty standard what would you do if you were told you had only a couple months to live - stuff.

Yella (2008,  Unrated)
Yella
'Christian Petzold 's drama deals with a woman, who leaves her hometown for a promising job and a new life, but is haunted by the truths of the past. As her marriage to Ben broke and her professional career has no future in her native town in the Eastern part of Germany, Yella has decided to search for a job in the West. When she gets to know Philipp, a smart executive at a private equity company in Hanover, she becomes his assistant and gets involved into the world of ruthless and big business. Realizing her dreams could come true with Philipp's help, she starts hearing voices and sounds from her past, which menace her new and better life.

The movie is well-shot, but in no way does that compensate for a future story. The problem is that there is no good direction in the film. I don't know what she's running away from, nor do I know where she is heading. Usually, not knowing where the film is going is something I can enjoy, but here, it all seems pointless.

The opening scene, where Ben follows Yella in his car does set a tone, but I think it does not explain why Yella wants to move away from him. At two points Ben breaks into her hotel room. One plot hole, at least to me, was how on earth did he manage to get into her hotel room? I doubt he just walked up to the reception and asked for the key. Yella doesn't seem to do anything further about it: she doesn't ask for her room to be changed, or even seek advice from anyone.

Yella's new job' isn't explained well either, all I know is that there are negotiations, and envelopes of money are exchanged. To some extent, this is acceptable, because Yella isn't given any good explanation of what's happening. But, considering how much of the film seems to take place in boardrooms, a little revelation of what is actually going on would've been appreciated.

When Yella proclaims her love to Phillip, I lost any sympathy for her, because it is obvious that she is the typical weak female, falling for 'the bad guy', and she doesn't even try to change her fate. After leaving her husband, who was stalking her, she falls Phillip, another bad guy who steals money from his employer, and so she seems to hope that all of a sudden life will become better?? Oh, Common...

Poor, very poor German film.

In Rosetta, The Dardenne brothers portrait the daily struggle of a young girl trying to get a job by any means. For her, work means getting a life and finally being someone. But is she ready to do everything to get what she wants, even betray her only friend?

Rosetta is a movie without adaptation, but really rewarding for those who accept to see it through the eyes of the main character. This could be difficult though given the fact that the script never tries to make her look sympathetic. But I think it is a positive aspect of the movie,, she is a "warrior" after all.

Actress Emilie Dequenne really "is" Rosetta. You don't think "Wow, that's a good actress!" here because you face cold reality with a real life character.

One thing I did find annoying, was the wobbly camera technique, don't see,
if you are feeling a little nauseous as I was, however this is only a small criticism. Its around 90 minutes and I think well worth the investment if you like a good character based movie.

My opinion, I hope my friends in here who rated Rosetta so high, wont be mad with me, overall an ok movie, but the end was so confusing and abrupt.
