Thirteen (2003, R)
The quality that came out of this film from all the different aspects of it just blew me away. I wasn't expecting something of such a high standard considering the age of Nikki Reed when she wrote the script and that it was written in six days and that it was all shot with a handheld camera. This film really speaks to a lot of young people out there. The relationship between the two main characters is just brilliant and although Holly Hunter was the one who received the Oscar nomination I believe it probably should have gone to either Nikki Reed or Evan Rachel Wood. Both were equally brilliant and their chemistry was just as excellent. It covered so many different aspects of teen life. And I love the older generations commenting on this film about it being unrealistic and exaggerated. I think they should take a look at my life, without that sounding like i'm a disaster, I do have my moments. The only problem I had with this film was the unconvincing age of the characters. They were both meant to be thirteen. I was thirteen when this film came out and Nikki Reed is two years older than me and Evan Rachel Wood is three years older. They just didn't look anything like thirteen year olds. Not even close. Once I got past that though I really did think it was brilliant. I can understand why a lot of people would like it though, it definatly only speaks to people that are experiencing the issues covered which I believe probably isn't everyone. A highly recommended film nonetheless. |

The worst animated film ever! No i'm not exaggerating. It really was that bad. I'm pretty sure I could have done a better job using stop motion on my pc using paint. I don't understand why these actors wanted to do this film. The plot was really crap and just took everything from other fish films. I'm thinking maybe they used all of their budget getting actors to voice the characters and had nothing left over to pay for decent animation and plot. Seriously awful film that really does not deserve the average of three stars people are giving it. These people need their hands testing. |

Across the Universe (2007, PG-13)
I don't know where to start. It was all brilliant. The Beatles songs were all brilliantly done. A adaptations were great and all the singing was great. I'm not sure if the actors actually sung but to be honest it doesn't matter. I'm not even a musicals fan but I think it was about time there was one that our time could put our names to. The acting was high class and there really are no complaints in that department. I have to mention Eddie Izzard as well as he really was the reason I wanted to see the film in the first place. Let's face it his character is plain weird and his scene is just like one big trip on acid and amphetimins. But in my opinion it was just pure brilliance. It's a must see film even for those who don't usually like musicals because i'm one of those people and I thought it was great. |
