Audition (Ôdishon) (1999, R)
Easily the most disturbing film I have EVER seen. And it starts so innocently & sweetly - like "Sleepless in Seatle" or something. Or like a guy's sex comedy. And then all just goes so horribly, horribly wrong. And yet, as grotesque and torturous and sadistic as it becomes in the 3rd act, it's still a movie about real human beings who are just emotionally broken by the world and unable to move past it to be redeemed by love. It's exquisite.... if you can take it. |

Event Horizon (1997, R)
This movie has grown on me over time. LOVE the premise, and the appropriately hardcore ending. LOVE Richard T. Jones' character. But Kathleen Quinlan's character really made me angry. Is anybody really that stupid for fall for that trick? Line of the movie - "'Hell' is just a word. The reality is much, much worse." |
