Excellent quality, plot, characterization, and visuals. It seems slow by American movie standards - but it therefore has more heart and feels more real than a fast-paced action flik. It's amazing. Miyazaki created a whole world and a masterpiece at that. There is a reason it was a huge hit in Japan and held the top spot till Titanic barely crept by it. Whether you like anime or not it is definitely a must see film.
One of the early non-Disney animated films (though Disney got the rights and released it). Before Toy Story this film showed what happened when humans were away, only appliances not toys came to life. Dealing with themes of loyalty, working together, bravery, using ones gifts and abilities to the fullest and to help others all come together nicely to give wonderful messages to kids, and adults to as seen with what our materialistic society can do (more, more, more!). Great characters and the voice actors fit them well. The animation is not exceptional, but still quite good for the late 80's before CG and for a low budget film. The songs are great and are lots of fun (and remain in you head for a while) and add even more heart and soul to the film. A classic in its own right.
A wonderful film about the popular Chipmunks. It was really cool to see a full length film that the popular cartoon spun off. It was one of the better cartoon musical films I have seen.
A fun and short watch but still worth it. A voice cast including John Goodman, Martin Short, Jay Leno, Charles Fleischer (voice of Roger Rabbit), Julia Child, Walter Cronkite, and Rhea Perlman help this film along. Produced by Steven Spielberg, (look for Jurassic Park playing at the theater in NY in this film which came out the same year as Jurassic Park), it has merit and good lessons for kids in friendship and helping, etc. A fun song sung by Goodman is enjoyable and if you like dinosaurs you'll enjoy this. Not the best in animation but still a cheerful and enjoyable film (though the villian who runs a circus which is there to scare not make the audience laugh could be scary to little kids).
Funny and clever avoiding the cliches that could BEE rampant. This is yet another well done animated film for the year with a great cast including the wonderful Jerry Seinfeld as Barry B. Benson. It does not deal with political talk like Happy Feet's save the penguins which makes it 10 times more enjoyable! Definitely a worth-while watch and you better BEElieve it.
Miyazaki puts out another incredible anime film. The colors and tone of the movie are impressive and add to the story. The world of spirits and gods is full of adventure and mystery and the story is very well done. Miyazaki again puts in lovable and interesting characters which enhance an already excellent plot. Worth the Oscar for Best Animated Film that it won and the other awards it won.
Miyazaki once again brings us a touching and beautiful story. Not as big and grandious as Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, or Spirited Away, it still has a wonderful story about the sea and the humans who live in a coastal town. A good American voice cast bring the characters to life and one of them stand out as stealing the show. The film may be more geared for little kids but there are things to enjoy for all ages, notably the animation and story. A fun film that's not too long and perfect for a short little time of relaxing and enjoying what's there to see. Lots of color and fun and cute characters this is sure to be loved by kids.
Great visualization and CGI. Very crisp and original film which succeeds in bringing Dr. Seuss' fantastic worlds to life. Funny and smart with timeless values and the quotes from the book make this a definite watch.
