Carrie (1976,  R)
Carrie
SUMMARY
horror film starring Sissy Spacek, Amy Irving, Piper Laurie and John Katt. based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King. directed by Brian De Palma.

Carrie White (Spacek) is a socially awkward girl that has recently discovered that she has telekinetic abilities and who is continually humiliated by her peers and her overly religious mother (Laurie). however, after a horrifying incident at the prom, Carrie snaps and gets her revenge on those that have hurt her.

MY TAKE
when I was girl, this film seemed very scary, but over the years, I started to look at it in a different way. no longer do I see it as a horror film, but as a drama. the humiliation that Carrie endures from the bitches at school as well as that of her Jesus-freaky mother (who even has her very own Jesus closet where she locks Carrie in as punishment!) doesn't scare me. instead, I found myself empathizing with young Carrie and cheering her on as she got her revenge on the asshats who tried to break her. Spacek is one of my favorite actresses and this film is a fine example why. she is amazing.

good stuff! ♥

The Craft
SUMMARY
supernatural flick starring Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell, Robin Tunney, Rachel True and Skeet Ulrich. directed by Andrew Fleming.

Sarah Bailey (Tunney) is new to town and is having trouble fitting in. but then she meets three other outcasts and soon the four girls become best friends. the girls share everything together... including their love of the Craft.

MY TAKE
I remember when I first heard about this film. I was expecting another teen flick, full of the usual jocks and teenage angst. but then I watched it. I was like "finally! a film for people like me!" I fell in love with it instantly. an original script and a great cast, including the often underrated Fairuza Balk and Neve Campbell, make this an instant classic. that's right, I said classic!

sooo good! I absolutely love love love this film! ♥

MY TAKE
this was one of those films that I had never even heard of and just happened upon. was quite surprised at how much I enjoyed this flick. intentionally cheesy and full of great comedic gore, I found myself laughing throughout most of this one.

zomg... almost forgot about the songs! was singing We're Comin' To Kill Ya for like a week after watching this! xD good stuff.

Was as I expected... major cheese. But what I hadn't anticipated, was that I would actually kinda like it. I am not saying that it is a great film and that everyone should run out and buy it... but if you are wanting a lil mindless entertainment, then this is a good movie for just that. ♥

SUMMARY
horror remake of the 1953 film of the same name starring Chad Michael Murray, Elisha Cuthbert and Jared Padalecki. directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.

a group of teenagers on their way to a football game take a detour that leads them into the woods and ultimately, to the tiny ghost town of Ambrose. enter the creepy House of Wax and a psychotic killer and soon the teens are running for their lives.

MY TAKE
I don't know what it is about this film that I love so much, but I can watch it over and over and never tire of it. maybe it's the fact that I can rewind a certain scene over and over and watch an incredibly annoying celebutante get a pole rammed through her face. maybe it's the oh-so yummy Chad Michael Murray and Jared Padalecki. or maybe it's just because I love a good cheesy horror flick. whatever it is, I can't seem to get enough of it.

love it! ♥

Jennifer's Body
SUMMARY
dark comedy horror flick starring Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Simmons, J.K. Simmons and Adam Brody. written by Diablo Cody. directed by Karyn Kusama.

Jennifer Check (Fox) and Anita "Needy" Lesnicki (Seyfried) are unlikely best friends. Jennifer is a gorgeous sexpot and Needy is a quiet wallflower. but after a sacrifice gone wrong, which leaves Jennifer becomes possessed, it is up to Needy to save the local teenage boys from becoming Jennifer's next meal.

MY TAKE
went into this film not really expecting much, but found myself pleasantly surprised. I have been a Amanda Seyfried fan for quite a while now, so I knew she was gonna be great. I just wasn't as sure about Megan Fox. but I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by Miss Fox's performance and her deadpan delivery of the Diablo Cody's witty dialogue. sure, she is amazingly gorgeous, but in this role, she proves that she does have some actual talent.

and of course... the kiss. O M G. so freakin' hawt!

kinda like a cross between Heathers and a really cheesy horror flick. pretty damn good. ♥

My Bloody Valentine 3-D (2009,  R)
My Bloody Valentine 3-D
slasher flick starring Jensen Ackles, Jaime King and Kerr Smith. directed by Patrick Lussier.

six weeks after a cave-in at the local mine traps six miners, rescue teams arrive and find the bodies of five of the men along with the only survivor, Harry Warden, who survived by killing the other men with his pickaxe and who is now in a coma.
the following year on Valentine's Day, Warden wakes from his coma and goes on a killing spree at the local hospital and then heads to the old mineshaft, where a group of teenagers are partying. amongst the teens, is Tom Hanniger (Ackles) whose father owns the mine and who was blamed for the cave-in disaster because he forgot to vent the methane line. when the surviving teens flee, Hanniger is left behind to fend for himself.
flash-forward to ten years later. Hanniger, who managed to escape Warden's axe, has returned to town for his father's funeral. suddenly, bodies start piling up and Hanniger is once again blamed.

a remake of the 1981 cult classic of the same name, this is an okay horror flick. I just really wish I had seen this one as it was intended, in 3D. but alas, I live in a small town that refuses to purchase a 3D projector. tons of gore and even the obligatory naked chick, I am sure many will enjoy this one. ♥

Scream (1996,  R)
Scream
SUMMARY
horror flick starring Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Rose McGowan, Jamie Kennedy, Matthew Lilliard, Skeet Ulrich and Drew Barrymore. written by Kevin Williamson. directed by Wes Craven.

a serial killer with a fondness for classic horror films stalks a peaceful community.

MY TAKE
my absolute favorite horror film hands down and one of my all-time favorite films. I can recite it word for word and have seen it at least 100 times... just ask my family and friends.

I remember when this film first came along. it was such an interesting take on the whole horror film genre. I loved the mix of comedy and suspense and how it made fun of these classic scary flicks, yet gave a good scare of its own. I instantly asked "Who is this Kevin Williamson guy?" and have been a fan of his work ever since.

people say its cheesy now, but this was the film that revitalized the horror genre for a whole entire new generation.

awesome cast. awesome script. awesome film. love it! ♥

The Skeleton Key (2005,  PG-13)
The Skeleton Key
scary suspense flick starring Kate Hudson, Peter Sarsgaard, Gena Rowlands and John Hurt. written by Ehren Kruger. directed by Iain Softley.

when Caroline Ellis (Hudson) takes the position of a hospice care provider for an elderly man (Hurt), she starts to wonder if there is more to his condition. could it be that his wife (Rowlands) is making him sick? or is it something else, something that involves the history of the house and it's previous residents?

the first time I saw this flick it scared the bejezzus outta me and I had nightmares for weeks. this time around, I still enjoyed it just as much, but without freaking out. of course, I did watch it in the middle of the day this time.

Kate and Peter are both great, but it is Gena and John that steal this film. great performances from both of these wonderful actors.

good stuff. ♥

after his wife dies, successful architect Jonathan Rivers (Keaton) is approached by a man who says that Rivers' wife has been in contact with him. although reluctant at first, Rivers begins to believe and soon he too begins to hear from his wife... as well as from others that have passed.

I know, I know. how can I possibly like this one? maybe its because I like uber cheesy films or maybe its because I have seen this sort of thing first hand. either way, I enjoyed this one. delightfully eerie. ♥
