Favorite horror flix

Terrific. The zombie film to end all zombie films. My friend Henry Covert says it better than I could over on his profile.

Much less onscreen gore than you've probably heard. One of the best slasher films of all time!

This movie is, IMO, seriously underrated. Yeah, it's not the absolute masterpiece the original was, but I still enjoy it a great deal, over-the-top as it is. Bill Moseley in particular turns in a hilarious performance as Chop Top, one that he would only top (though not so humorously) as Otis P. Driftwood in HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES and (especially) THE DEVIL'S REJECTS. Bill Johnson is a more than adequate replacement for Gunnar Hansen, and Jim Siedow as the cook is his usual delightful self. Dennis Hopper's character is quite fun as well.

Rob Zombie's first film is a real treat for horror fans, with a cast including many familiar genre icons. Even better is...

A great piece of film, very disturbing and complex. Bill Moseley is at his finest in this film.

Captures perfectly the atmosphere of Universal's Frankenstein films. If you see only one Mel Brooks movie, it should be this one.

One of the few remakes of an excellent film that is also damn good in its own right.

A heartwarming story about a boy and his zombie.

One of il maestro's most unique films, with a girl (a very young Jennifer Connelly) who can communicate with insects and a villain killed by the character you'd least expect to do so (not going to say more than that).

One of the most disturbing and effective films I've seen in a while. David Hess' performance as Adam is brilliant; he's a psycho who has no limits. Franco Nero is, as always, a terrific leading man; however, here he plays a far less likable character than Django, Keoma, or any of his spaghetti western heroes. Except for a couple embarrassing songs, Morricone's music is excellent. Adding to the overall effect is an ending that most viewers will not see coming. Well worth the while for fans of Nero and Hess, or simply fans of creepy yet excellent movies.
