Seven (Se7en) (1995, R)
Top notch serial killer movie that I like even more than SIlence of the Lambs. Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt are two detectives on the trail of a vicious killer named John Doe, who is using the seven deadly sins to dispatch his victims. Kevin Spacey is supremely creepy as John Doe and makes an effective foil for our dynamic duo. Freeman is top notch as the veteran detective who is burnt out by all the violence in the world. Pitt is gung ho as his eager new partner. Gwyneth Paltrow is effective as Pitt's wife. And R. Lee Emery is great as the duo's captain. A great film that I have seen several times. |

The Thing (1982, R)
Very cool sci-fi/horror flick set in Antarctica. At an American research base of only 12 men, an alien life form is discovered and all hell breaks loose. This alien has the unique ability to imitate any other life form it comes in contact with - including humans. Kurt Russell plays RJ MacReady, the pilot who tries to figure out how to kill this thing before everyone is taken over. Directed by ace horror master John Carpenter with terrific gore effects, a suspenseful music score, and a twinge of mystery. Done before the heyday of CG, this 1982 film holds up remarkably well. A treat for horror/sci-fi fans. |

Psycho (1960, R)
One of Hitch's best films he ever made. Anthony Perkins is perfect as Norman Bates, a young man who runs The Bates Motel, who has a serious mother fixation. Along comes Janet Leigh, a young woman on the run from the cops for stealing money from her job. And the rest is cinema magic. Psycho set the standard for all the slasher flicks that would follow, but it's still the best one. It works as a thriller and a character piece. You really get to know Norman Bates and Perkins does a helluva job. Janet Leigh is pretty good too. A must see. |

The Descent (2006, R)
I thought it was a pretty good film. It won't be to everyone's tastes though. Part women bonding film, part horror film. The second half of the film is more action packed and bloodier but the first half is just as good setting the mood of the film perfectly. Plus it has a little humor. Two of the women stand out from the rest: Natalie Mendoza and Shauna MacDonald. A must see for anyone looking for some thrills mixed with a good storyline. |

Saw III (2006, R)
Just saw this one last night. I kept putting it off because I was kinda disappointed with the second one. Well Saw 3 returns to the form of the original movie and is better than the last one in every way. Jigsaw is slowly dying and his apprentice Amanda has taken over and setting up death traps for any wayward soul who crosses their paths. There aren't as many victims or traps in this one but that doesn't take away from the movie. Tobin Bell as Jigsaw is still effective and creepy and Shawnee Smith as Amanda is positively psychotic. Newcomer to the series Angus Macfadyen as a distraught dad is pretty good. And the now expected twist at the end is another good one for the series. But I don't know if the newest Saw can top this one. They may have put themselves in a corner. Still Saw 3 is a good one. Enjoyed it the whole time. |

Final Destination 2 (2003, R)
I think this is an awesome series, and my favorite of them all is this one. The opening traffic accident is just amazing And the death scenes keep getting more inventive and freakish. AJ Cook is very good as Kim, who has the premonition that something bad is gonna happen. And sole survivor Clear Rivers (Ali Larter) from the first Destination film returns and knows the ina and outs of surviving this deadly game. A rare sequel that is better than the original. |

Shaun of the Dead (2004, R)
Excellent horror comedy that hits the mark. Shaun and his best pal Ed are room-mates in England and are just coasting through life. Shaun has a girlfriend named Liz who wants more from him. Then one day people start turning into zombies and Shaun becomes the reluctant leader. The laughs are plenty as are the thrills. It can get very gory but still fun. I laughed my ass off and it's one of my favorites now. Highly recommened. |

My Bloody Valentine 3-D (2009, R)
Old school horror flick with lots of gore, blood, screaming, running, and nudity. Delivers on all the thrills promised and it's not watered down like most of the PG-13 horror crap that has infested cinemas for the last few years. And no CGI that ruins it either. Valentine revels in it's own blood and gore and it's one of the best horror films I have seen in awhile. Put it this way, it's way better than the last two Saw films put together. And by putting it in 3D is just icing on the cake. Oh and the acting is surprisingly good for this type of movie. No teenagers here, these are adults who try their best to survive being killed. And the opening 15 minutes features one helluva body count. |

30 Days of Night (2007, R)
A very different kind of vampire movie that is very effective. Set in a small Alaskan town called Barrow, the residents get ready for a month long of no sunlight. Most head south, but some stay to ride it out. On the last day of sunlight a stranger comes in to town, taking out the town's power and communication. And also kills all the sled dogs just for good measure. He's played with relish by Ben Foster (who was a nonfactor as Angel in X-Men 3). Josh Hartnett and Melissa George play the husband and wife sheriff team who must sort out all the weird happenings. When the sun finally goes down, all hell breaks loose. Savage vampires descend on the town led by Marlow (wonderfully played by Danny Huston). And this bunch of bloodsuckers are quite vicious. They paint the town red with their brutal attacks. I thought this movie was pretty cool for a couple of reasons. It showed vampires in a different light, more like killing machines than suave romantics. And the townsfolk are potrayed as regular people. None of them have access to fancy weaponry or training ala Blade and Underworld. But they do fight back the best way they can. With axes, firearms, dynamite, and heavy duty snow plow equipment. The cast is solid led by Hartnett and George. They are very strong in their roles, and to make matters even more complex, they're in the middle of a separation. The vampires are intense-they move very fast and kill even faster. And the look of the film is great. The story does have some holes in it during the down time when our heroes are hiding out and trying to stay quiet. But it doesn't last too long before an attack occurs. Definetly a good movie to see over Halloween. And be prepared because the gore factor is quite high with decapitations, bodies being gutted and chomped on, and vampires being skewered left and right. |

28 Weeks Later... (2007, R)
To be honest I wasn't a fan of the original, but the sequel is in my opinion way better. It starts 6 months after the events in the first movie as the US Army has started to bring people back home with the infection seemingly having died out. But all it takes is one infected person and the crisis begins again. Once again a strong story is at the forefront with Rose Byrne as an Army medical doctor trying to find a cure; Robert Carlyle as a dad dealing with personal demons when he couldn't save his wife when the first epidemic hit, and Jeremy Renner as a lethal sharpshooter who I think is the best character in the movie. Of course there are several kick ass scenes involving attacking zombies. The showstopper is a helicopter making mincemeat of about 70 or 80 zombies. Very cool. For me the sequel works better than the orginal. And if you liked the original then you will probably like this one also. |

Final Destination 3 (2006, R)
The last entry in this series is very good. Not as good as part 2, but for a third chapter in any movie series, this one is very entertaining. It pretty much follows the blueprint of the first two films where the survivors of a tragedy try to avoid the Grim Reaper. The accident in this one is an awesome roller coaster ride that malfunctions. And then there are several gory death scenes that follow that are very creative and well done. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is quite good as Wendy, our heroine. A fitting end for this fantastic series. |

Underworld: Evolution (2006, R)
Much better than the first one. Selene and Michael return to battle the last remaining elder vampire Marcus who is searching for his imprisoned brother William, who happens to be a werewolf. It may get a little complicated before things are explained but it's one hell of a ride. Plus Kate Beckinsale in tight black leather kicking ass will get your blood pumping. A solid sequel. |

Blade - Trinity (2004, R) |

Resident Evil - Apocalypse (2004, R)
Much better than the first one. Loaded with lots of action and features not one but two pistol packing butt kicking babes. Alice: "It's nothing personal. But in an hour, maybe two, you'll be dead. And moments later, you'll become one of them. You'll endanger your friends, try to kill them, probably succeed. I'm sorry. That's just the way it is". |

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996, R)
Kick ass action/vampire flick with two hardcore killers (Clooney, Tarantino) on the run and headed for the border to Mexico. They kidnap a family driving cross country in a mobile home (Keitel, Juliette Lewis) and head to the rendezvous point in Mexico called The Titty Twister. But they find trouble there as the place is actually a haven for vampires led by queen Santanico Pandemonium (Hayek). All hell breaks loose and the bloodbath is on. This film is way cool from the sensational opening scene at a gas station which turns into a shootout to the very end where the last survivors wage war against the vampires. The cast is top notch especially George Clooney, who is bad ass as Seth. Lewis and Keitel are also very good too. And great supporting turns from Fred Williamson and Tom Savini. I thought this was one very cool movie. |

Blade (1998, R)
The one that brought a new kind of comic book hero to the screen. Wesley Snipes is awesome as Blade, a vampire hunter who is half vampire himself, wiping out each and every vampire he comes across. His main adversary is Deacon Frost, played by Stephen Dorff, who also happened to be the vampire that killed his mom while she was pregnant with Blade. So it's payback time. Lots of blood and gore and gunfire and hand to hand combat make this an extremely entertaining movie. Look for the awesome opening scene at a vampire rave club where Blade just goes ballistic. |

The Monster Squad (1987, PG-13)
Just watched this film because it was finally released on DVD. 20 years later and one of my childhood favorites from the 80's is still awesome. A group of small kids in a small town dub themselves The Monster Squad and must take on very real monsters including Dracula, The Wolfman, and the Mummy. Lucky for them Frankenstein's Monster is on their side. Loaded with great makeup effects and lots of humor and an action-packed last half hour, Monster Squad is a winner. |

Army of Darkness (1993, R)
Before director Sam Raimi starting making Spider-Man movies, he was responsible for one of the coolest and most inventive film series ever..The Evil Dead trilogy. The first film was a pure horror fest with a little humor thrown into and the sequel delivered even more off the wall humor. But for the third flick Raimi went all out to make this totally awesome comedy/horror. Our returning hero Ash (played by the super Bruce Campbell) finds himself thanks to a time warp, in the Middle Ages and must now battle the army of the dead for possession of the Book of the Dead. Said book holds the information on returning our hero back home. So he leads the local folk into battle against the dead for one rip roaring super cool face off. It's all in good fun and you really wish Raimi and Campbell would make a 4th movie to show what Ash has been up to the last 16 years. Not for everyone's taste though, but if you wanna see something different, then this is the movie to see. Oh there's a quick cameo by Bridget Fonda at the beginning. And plenty of one-liners galore from my man Ash. Good stuff. |

Gory comedy/horror flick with alien parasites, zombies, and a lot of weird things happening in a small town.
