Iron Monkey (1993,  PG-13)
Iron Monkey 5.0 Stars
The very first Kung Fu movie i ever saw. Turns out it's also the best (and it's doesn't even star Jackie Chan or Jet Li!!) Donnie Yen is a Legend in his own right, and he's at his peak in this.

The fights are on a different level to most other Kung Fu movies, and it's so full of charm and greatness that it's alomost impossible not to like it.

Magnificent Butcher (1979,  PG-13)
Magnificent Butcher 5.0 Stars
If you're interested in seeing wall-to-wall kung fu action, you can't do much better than The Magnificent Butcher. There are enough well-choreographed fight sequences in this film to hypnotize even the worst sufferers of attention deficit disorder. Those unfamiliar with the martial arts prowess of Sammo Hung will be astonished by the remarkable agility and grace he demonstrates in scene after scene.

The rest of the casting is pitch perfect; Fan Mei-Sheng, Lee Hoi-Sang, Yuen Biao and the rest all do their part in helping Magnificent Butcher stand out from the pack from the lesser chopsocky flicks that studios kept cranking out during the seventies. ^_^

Knockabout (,  PG-13)
Knockabout 4.5 Stars
Stunning old school Kung Fu flick. With Yuen Biao in his physical prime. Knockabout is one of the finest Sammo/Biao productions i'v seen so far (and i'v seen many).

Yuen Biao and Leung Kar Yan form a very strong and memorable on-screen duo as well. Their antics are often hilarious and a delight to watch. Good genuine chemistry.

Knockabout is a must see for any Kung Fu movie fan. After seeing this movie, it'll leave a lasting impression for sure. Rarely does a marshall arts flick do almost everything right. Good solid ground-based Kung Fu action! That's what i love the most, and that's exactly what i got. In spades! ^_^

Duel to the Death (1982,  R)
Duel to the Death 4.0 Stars
It's up there as one of the best sword flicks. Easy. It's got wires, naked ninja babes, a 15ft ninja, exploding ninja's, ninja's on kites, fighting monks, bomb loads of hacked limbs and contains as much blood as Kill Bill vol 1. Perfect then.

The movie so beautifully captures the visual artistry and delirious thrills associated with the high-flying martial arts films of the early 1990s that you can hardly believe it was filmed nearly a decade before (1982). In fact i had to check on the internet just to make sure! Twice!!

This is Ching Siu-Tung's first film as director as well. You guy who brought you 'Hero' and 'House of flying Daggers'.

Wing Chun (1994,  Unrated)
Wing Chun 4.0 Stars
As it's from director Yuen Woo-Ping, it was always going to be better than your average kung fu movie. The fight scenes are brilliant and don't come much better, anywhere.

While the Wing Chun form isn't shown as much as you would think, it does show us it's main principles, especially towards the end scenes. Which, if you know what your looking at, is great to watch.

This was also the second to last (Drunken Master 2 being the last) of the great action kung fu period romp movies made in Hong Kong. After this, kung fu movies were all staged with modern settings. ^_^

Jing wu ying xiong (Fist of Legend) 4.0 Stars
Said by many to be Jet's greatest film. Not for me. But it's Jet at his best doing what only Jet can.

The film's is based on Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury.

Winners and Sinners (1981,  PG-13)
Winners and Sinners 3.5 Stars
The first of the 'Five Lucky Stars' series. Great film!

The now infamous comedy moment where Richard Ng strips naked and walks around believing that he's invisible, while the other lucky stars make comments about his privates and attempts to watch a football game. Hilarious stuff.

It's a shame Jackie doesn't have much screen-time though (about 15 mintues i'd say). Yet he gets his name slapped in front of Sammo's to boost sales. Which is misleading.
