The Last Waltz (1978,  R)
The Last Waltz
This is what you do when your band wants to call it a day. document it and do a farewell show with all your best friends. Classic and this is Canadian.
2
U2: Rattle and Hum (1988,  Unrated)
U2: Rattle and Hum
Was not too well received when it came out in '89 but it is one of those films that grows on you over time. This was U2 at their most ambitious.
3
Purple Rain (1984,  R)
Purple Rain
Prince's best movie because he is playing himself even though it was fictionalized. This is also Prince's best musical period when he had the Revolution as his band.
4
A Hard Day's Night (1964,  G)
A Hard Day's Night
Probably the first movie by a rock band. (Elvis movies not withstanding) Old school but take it for what it is worth and the time it was made. They were and are the greatest band, so they had to make a movie about themselves.
5
Help! (1965,  G)
Help!
This was the Beatles attempt to be actors so they went for an adventure type movie. Since they are the Beatles no one cares if they are not much of actors. The movie is fun and the music even better.
6
Yellow Submarine (1968,  G)
Yellow Submarine
Great film and probably my favourite of the Beatles movies. This was their attempt to do a Disney type of movie with a psychedelic flavour. Animation was awesome in its day and the music and the Blue Meanies makes it even more fun. FYI: The Beatles did not provide their voices for their respective selves. It was done by voice actors who tried to match their voices as close as possible. You only see the actual Fab Four at the end of the film.
7
The Song Remains The Same (1976,  PG)
The Song Remains The Same
This film is a little difficult to get into because they are a lot of problems with the actual film. It is worth it for the bands' live performances and it is the only Led Zeppelin movie or concert film. Probably should have been just a live performance film because the in between stuff alone makes it an awful movie. I will not give this a lower rating because it not easy to right off a band like Zeppelin.
8
Spice World (1998,  PG)
Spice World
This a guilty pleasure of mine more than anything else. This is a fun little movie that appeals to their young fans at the time. I do enjoy the music and they are nice to look at. Criticize this film all you like but I would rather watch this than Mariah Carey's Glitter or Britney Spears' Crossroads any day.
9
Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing (2006,  R)
Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing
I am not a Dixie Chicks fan per say but I really enjoyed this film. I like the fact that they speak their minds and they accept all the backlash that they receive from it. Not to many groups especially a female group can do a documentary where they tell it like it is.
10
Iron Maiden: Flight 666 (2009,  Unrated)
11
Metallica - Some Kind of Monster (2004,  R)
Metallica - Some Kind of Monster
This is a movie that appeals more to the fans. As for the film itself, I think it was well made. It shows the band at their most honest and personal. They were definitely on the verge of calling it quits because they were really getting nowhere on getting any work done. They also have no problems in getting into each others throats when they are not happy with one another. This was Metallica a few years before becoming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees.
12
Woodstock - 3 Days of Peace & Music (1970,  R)
Woodstock - 3 Days of Peace & Music
Good movie and even better music. This is the rock festival that created all future rock festivals. Considering this film was made in 1970 this film does its very best to cover all the performers involved and the people who were there . Great guitar acts as well: Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Mountain and Ten Years After.
