Alien 3 (1992, R)
Back to the original style in Alien rather than the fast paced Aliens, which I think benefits this one. As long as Sigourney Weaver is still Ripley the film was going to be good (ignoring resurrection). Including good acting by Postlethwaite and Dillon, with a revival for one of the greatest characters in sci-fi history in Bishop, this is a great film. |

Forrest Gump (1994, PG-13)
Tom Hanks is amazing in portraying a man with limited intelligence as he goes through life from a boy to a father. The film really is as good as everyone says, and would be one the first films I recommend to people. While his story is incredibly emotional the film is funny in places especially how Forest Gump seems to be involved in every memorable event of the films timeframe; from reporting the watergate scandal to giving Lennon the idea to Imagine. |

Gattaca (1997, PG-13)
The film is based in the near future where your genetic information determines your life and where inferior humans must struggle at the bottom of the social classes. This is an ironic twist on the idea of you deciding your fate over the class you were born into, where instead of most films showing naturally talented individuals struggling against those better off than them this film shows the strength of determination while in Jude Law's story showing the pressure on those naturally gifted (identifying with upper classes in real life) - redo |

The Godfather, Part II (1974, R)
The introduction of De Niro as young Vito makes up for the loss of Caan from the first film, as this film carries on the godfather saga with Michael as the head of the family in the present while looking back at Vito's past. The past scenes are what makes the film especially some of the cut scenes with a young Clemeza. |

The Green Mile (1999, R)
Who should you listen to your government or your conscience? The theme of the film is based on the death penalty and how the main character (played as usual, brilliantly by Tom Hanks) deals with the idea that he may kill an innocent and benevolent man. The story does well to highlight the effects execution has on the executioners and the moral justification for killing men. Although the film does well to argue against the death penalty it is interesting when you see John Coffey an innocent man choose to punish someone else with death, making this film more than just a simple hollywood film. |

The Last King of Scotland (2006, R)
Whitaker is coming into his prime!! After this film he should be considered up there with some of the modern greats. He portrays Ugandan dictator Idi Amin seen through the eyes of naive scottish doctor McAvoy. Although Idi Amin was a true historical character and he was known to like the Scottish, the actual events revolving around the fictional doctor are made up. |

The Last Temptation of Christ (1988, R)
Great film both entertaining and enlightening. If your religious and insecure about your beliefs and are easily offended don't watch it! For the rest of you I think you will like it. It explores the different stories that were going around at the short period after Jesus' alleged death. It is interesting as while religious leaders and later on Roman scholars were happy to allows conflicting stories and accounts of Jesus to be deemed appropriate, there is a clear censoring of all accounts which try and depict Jesus as an ordinary Man with human temptations; instead of simply idolising him. This film is an attempt to awaken this knowledge and try and explore its relevance today. This is done well by Willem Dafoe and Harvey Keitel although it is strange fir |
