Screwball Comedies

  2. Movie

The true classification of a screwball comedy is still a bit fuzzy to me, but currently, I consider it to mean any movie that gets you so uptight at the craziness and zaniness of the characters and plot unfolding before your eyes, that you either get up and leave the room or simply erupt continuously with laughter. The below films are just a few of the classic comedies that I've come to enjoy. Some, like 'I Love You Again,' and 'Libeled Lady,' are fun but not too screwballish; while others, such as, 'To Be or Not To Be,' will have you begging for some kind of resolution. Will they ever get out of town?

I hope you find some films that you come to treasure! *Popcorn is a must for this list. A must I say!*

The casting on this was crazy! If you want to see this one go for 'High Society' with Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra. Same story line....Better Character Casting. Don't get me wrong. I like all the actors in The Philadelphia Story, but the characters didn't seem to work well in this flick to me.

High Society
I love this movie if only for the music. The cool thing about this one is that the musical numbers are tied into the movie script. L. Armstrong plays a few and gives commentary on how things are shaping up. The cast is a delight and so is the zany antic that get involved. A definite movie to see one evening.

This movie was a hoot. When I watched it it was in a group of four people and we ALL agreed it truly lived up to it's Screwball contemporaries!

When I first started watching it, I was thinking that Lombard and Benny was odd casting, but with that script - it was perfect. = D You definitely have to check this one out!
