Freaks (1932, Unrated)
Tod Browning made this film with all real actors with physical deformations, who worked for circus to have a relative normal life. And that is the great succcess of this film, to tell the story of these "monsters", with lots of humanity, as people with its own dreams, moments to get fun, ways to develop rutines despiste their diseases, codes, and, of course, anxious to revenge if they are offended. Because what you do to one of us, it´s done to all of us. |

Mutluluk (Bliss) (2009, Unrated)
Next time, I will see it in Spanish, not in Turkish. That way, maybe I will like it even more. Well, seriously, I watched it in Turkish!, so I can not make a great appreciation from the film. It didn´t seemed to me a wonderful one (but as I said, I could not understand the dialogs, just to deduce it, however, I think I and my ex-girlfriend did it quite well), but I assign 3 stars because it had a few powerful scenes, and because it treats about a very intense item in a country where is particullarly important to fight against these kind of costums. The plot is about a woman which is raped, so his husbands ask someone in the village to kill her because she has lost her honour. However, he is not able to do it, and escapes with the girl to the city. There, they will try to get a new life, finding interesting people, but danger continues being close to them... |

Slumdog Millionaire (2008, R)
I am going to make a spoiler: don´t you think the film itself is a metaphor of India? Not only because, although nobody wanted to distribute it, they got 8 Oscars and worldwide acknowledgement. Just look at the central topic of the film: the main character -as India- has crossed through many difficulties that now are useful to him to answer the questions and triumph. |

El Secreto de Sus Ojos (The Secret of Her Eyes) (2009, PG-13)
Great! Incredible! Enormous Campanella! He takes a lawyers-thriller (Darín remembered to Al Pacino in his best times) and to a I-can-not-breathe-while-looking-it he adds wonderful touchs of poetry, tenderness and incisive humour. Although the rhytm is slow, you never get bored, as the script is incredible. Amazing sensation! |
